EDD SDI pregnancy extension delays - Form DE 2593 submitted 3 weeks ago with no response
I'm getting so frustrated with the extension process for my pregnancy disability claim! My doctor extended my leave because of complications, and I submitted Form DE 2593 (continuing eligibility questionnaire) on 6/15/25. It's been 3 weeks with absolutely no word from EDD. My regular payments stopped on 5/28/25 when my initial claim period ended. My doctor had already completed the Form DE 2525XX extension certification on 6/1/25. The EDD website says processing should take 10 business days after medical certification, but I'm way past that now. I haven't received any requests for additional information, and my UI Online account just shows my claim as "established" with no updates. Two questions: 1. How long does EDD typically take to process pregnancy disability extensions with Form DE 2593? 2. Will I get retroactive payments for all these missed weeks once they finally approve the extension? I'm getting really worried about bills piling up. Has anyone else dealt with this recently?

My extension took 4 weeks to process last month, so ur not alone. the site says 10 days but thats just not true anymore lol. they are super backlogged. and yes u should get all the backpay for the weeks u missed once they finally approve it.

•Thanks for responding! 4 weeks is such a long time to wait without income. Did you have to do anything special to finally get them to process it? Or just wait?

I'm currently going through something similar with my pregnancy disability extension. My doctor submitted the DE 2525XX form about 3 weeks ago and I also had to complete the DE 2593. EDD is definitely experiencing delays in processing extensions right now. From what I understand, once approved, you WILL receive retroactive payments for all weeks you were eligible but didn't get paid during the processing time. The backlog is frustrating but at least they don't penalize us for their delays. Have you tried calling them? That's my next step.

•I've tried calling at least 15 times this week alone! Either get disconnected immediately or stuck on hold for hours before getting hung up on. It's infuriating that there's no other way to check status.

•I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to an EDD agent. It worked for me when I had a similar issue with my extension paperwork getting stuck in processing. The service connects you with an EDD rep much faster than calling directly. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd that shows how it works. Totally worth it to get answers about your case instead of waiting for weeks.

NOBODY at EDD knows what theyre doing!! I had a pregnancy extension last year and it took them SIX WEEKS to process my forms. SIX!!!! And when I finally got someone on the phone they said my paperwork was "sitting in a queue" whatever that means. The system is completely broken.

•Six weeks?! That's absolutely ridiculous. I'm going to run out of savings at this rate. Did they at least provide all your back payments when it was finally approved?

I work as a disability insurance specialist and can provide some clarification on this process. Currently (mid-2025), EDD is taking 15-25 business days to process DE 2593 forms for pregnancy disability extensions, despite what their website claims. This is significantly longer than their pre-pandemic timeframes. Regarding your questions: 1. The 3-week wait you're experiencing is unfortunately within the current normal range. The delay happens because extension requests require manual review by a claims examiner rather than automated processing. 2. Yes, you will absolutely receive retroactive payments for all eligible weeks once your extension is approved. The retroactive payment typically arrives as a lump sum within 2-3 days of approval. One important note: Make sure your doctor properly completed Section B of the DE 2525XX form with a specific date range for your extension. If that section is incomplete, it can cause further delays. You might want to double-check with your medical provider's office that everything was submitted correctly.

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! That's really helpful to know the current timeframes. I'll check with my doctor's office to make sure they completed Section B correctly. Do you know if calling EDD might help speed things up at all, or is it just a waiting game at this point?

Hey there! I just went thru almost the exact same situation with my pregnancy extension. My doctor had to fill out the 2525XX and I did the 2593 questionnaire. My advice: CALL THEM! It turned out my forms were received but somehow got filed under the wrong claim number (how does that even happen??). They never would have caught this if I hadn't called. Once I finally got through, the rep fixed it in minutes and my payments resumed within 2 days. And yes, I got all my back weeks paid at once. Keep trying to call first thing in the morning (8:01 am) or right after lunch (1:01 pm). Those were the times I had best luck getting through.

•That's really helpful, thank you! I'll try calling at those specific times tomorrow. It's crazy how simple issues like a wrong claim number can hold everything up for weeks! Did you have to provide any specific information when you finally reached someone?

•Just have your claim ID, social, and the dates of your forms ready. Also the date your payments stopped. The more specific info you can give them, the faster they can help. Good luck!!

Wait I'm confused... I thought form DE 2593 was for SDI extensions and DE 2580G was for pregnancy claims? Anyways I had to wait 5 weeks for my regular SDI extension last year so I think you still have to wait longer probably.

•Good question! Form DE 2593 (Continuing Eligibility) is used for ALL types of disability extensions, including pregnancy. The DE 2580G is only used for the initial pregnancy claim filing. For extensions of pregnancy disability, you need the DE 2525XX completed by your doctor and possibly the DE 2593 completed by you.

•I just checked and don't see anything from EDD in my spam folder, but that's a great suggestion! Did they actually email you directly or was it a notification to check your UI Online inbox?

If you really need to talk to someone you could try contacting your state assembly person. My sister did this when her claim was stuck for 2 months and miraculously EDD called her back the next day. Worth a try if ur desperate.

•That's a great idea I hadn't thought of! If I don't hear anything by the end of this week, I'll definitely try contacting my assembly member. Thank you for the suggestion!

Just wanted to update you - I finally got my extension approved yesterday after waiting 24 days. They did pay all the back weeks in one lump sum. The representative told me there's currently a 20-25 day processing time for extensions despite what the website says. Hang in there, you should be getting an update soon!

•That's so good to hear! Thank you for coming back to update me. I'm at day 22 now, so hopefully I'll hear something in the next few days. The backpay will be such a relief when it finally comes through.

I'm going through something very similar right now! My pregnancy disability extension has been pending for almost 3 weeks too. It's so stressful not knowing when the payments will resume, especially with all the bills coming in. Reading through these responses is actually really helpful - sounds like 3-4 weeks is unfortunately the new normal for processing times, even though their website still says 10 days. I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning at 8:01am like Diego suggested. Hopefully we both get some movement on our cases soon! The backpay should help once it finally goes through.

•I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too! It's really frustrating how inconsistent EDD's processing times are compared to what they advertise. I hope calling at 8:01am works for you - that seems to be the best strategy based on what everyone here has shared. Keep me posted on how it goes! It's oddly comforting to know we're not alone in this mess, even though I wouldn't wish these delays on anyone. Fingers crossed we both get our approvals soon! @Yuki Tanaka

I'm in a very similar situation and feeling your frustration! I submitted my DE 2593 form about 2.5 weeks ago after my doctor completed the DE 2525XX extension for pregnancy complications. My payments also stopped at the end of May when my initial claim period ended. Based on what I'm reading here, it sounds like we're both still within the unfortunately "normal" 20-25 day processing window that EDD is currently experiencing, even though their website is misleading about the 10-day timeframe. I've been trying to call but haven't had luck getting through yet. I'm going to try the 8:01am strategy that Diego mentioned tomorrow. It's reassuring (though frustrating) to know that others have eventually received all their backpay once approved. Hang in there - from what everyone is saying, you should hopefully hear something in the next few days since you're already at 3 weeks. Please update us when you do get approval! This community has been so helpful for understanding what's really happening vs what EDD claims on their website.

•Thank you for sharing your experience, Amara! It's definitely frustrating but also reassuring to know I'm not the only one dealing with this. The fact that multiple people are reporting 3-4 week wait times really shows how outdated EDD's website information is. I'm going to try calling at 8:01am tomorrow too - maybe we'll both have better luck getting through. It's crazy that we have to rely on community forums like this to get accurate information about processing times! I'll definitely update everyone once I hear back from EDD. Hopefully both of our cases get resolved soon and we can get that much-needed backpay. @Amara Okonkwo

I'm in almost the exact same boat as you! My pregnancy disability extension has been pending for 3 weeks now after submitting the DE 2593 form. My doctor completed the DE 2525XX back in early June and my payments stopped at the end of May too. Reading through all these responses is both reassuring and frustrating - it sounds like 20-25 business days is the real processing time right now, not the 10 days EDD claims on their website. I've been stressing about bills piling up too, but knowing that everyone eventually got their full backpay once approved gives me some hope. I'm definitely going to try calling at 8:01am tomorrow like Diego suggested. The fact that his forms were just sitting under the wrong claim number for weeks shows how important it is to actually get through to someone. Hopefully both of us will get some movement on our cases soon - we're both right at that 3-week mark where approvals seem to start happening based on what others have shared. Keep us posted when you hear back! This thread has been way more helpful than anything on EDD's actual website.

•I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm also dealing with a pregnancy disability extension that's been pending for about 2.5 weeks now. It's really helpful to see that so many others are experiencing the same delays - makes me feel less alone in this frustrating process. The discrepancy between EDD's claimed 10-day processing time and the reality of 20-25 days is honestly ridiculous. I'm going to try the 8:01am calling strategy too since it seems like getting through to an actual person might be the only way to get real answers. Thanks for sharing your experience and timeline - it gives me hope that approval should come soon for all of us who are in this 3-week waiting period. Please keep us updated when you hear back! @Mei Chen
