Confused about DE 2525XX electronic extension processing time with EDD SDI - anyone know?
I'm getting super stressed about my disability extension claim. My doctor submitted the electronic DE 2525XX form last Wednesday but there's still no update on my SDI Online account. How long does it usually take for EDD to process these electronic extensions? My benefits are about to run out in 11 days and I'm freaking out because my surgery recovery is taking way longer than expected. The doctor's office swears they sent it, but EDD's end shows nothing. Should I be calling them every day until I see it updated? Has anyone dealt with this recently?

Electronic forms typically process faster than paper, but EDD is still taking about 7-10 business days right now to process extension certifications. I wouldn't panic yet since it's only been a few days. Make sure your doctor used your correct SSN and claim ID when submitting. If you don't see any update by next Monday, then it might be worth trying to contact EDD directly.

•Thanks for responding! I'm just so nervous because last time I had an issue it took 3 weeks to resolve and I almost missed rent. Do you know if there's a way I can verify they received it without calling? The online system just shows my original claim info.

my dr sent mine last month and it took 12 days to show up online but then suddenly appeared and got paid 2 days later. just wait a bit more

•12 days?? That's cutting it super close for me since my benefits end in 11 days. Did yours process after your benefits ended or just in time?

I waited 3 weeks once for them to process my form! System is so broken.

•3 weeks?! That's exactly what I'm afraid of. Did you have to go without pay during that time?

I've been through this exact situation twice with my chronic condition. Electronic DE 2525XX forms technically process faster than paper, but they still take time. Here's what you need to know: 1. Processing typically takes 7-14 business days (not calendar days) 2. Your doctor should have received a confirmation number - ask for it 3. The system won't show "pending extension" - it just suddenly updates when processed 4. Even if your benefits technically lapse, the extension applies retroactively once approved If you're getting close to day 10 with no update, I'd recommend calling EDD directly. The lines are usually jammed but worth trying.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'll ask my doctor for the confirmation number tomorrow. I didn't realize they get one when they submit it. And that's a relief about the retroactive part - I was worried I'd miss payments completely.

Trying to call EDD is absolute NIGHTMARE!!!! I spent HOURS AND HOURS trying to get someone on the phone about my extension last month. They hang up on you when the queues are full! I finally got through using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - it automatically redials for you until it gets through and then calls you back when an agent is on the line. Saved me literal days of frustration. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd Best money I've spent dealing with this whole disability mess. Worth trying if you can't get through yourself.

•I've never heard of this service before. Does it actually work? I've been hung up on at least 15 times in the past when trying to call EDD.

•Yes! It literally got me through in about 35 minutes when I had been trying manually for days. The system just keeps dialing until it breaks through their busy signals and auto-hangups.

hey did your doctor send a regular extension or a supplemental extension? theyre different forms and it matters. also was your original claim for the same condition or different? I had a huge mess when my dr used wrong form

•It's the same condition - I had back surgery and was approved for 8 weeks initially but need more time. I'm not sure which exact form the doctor used though... now I'm worried it was the wrong one! How do I check that?

•call your doctor office and ask if they sent a regular extension or supplemental claim. regular extension is easiest if same condition. if they sent supplement by mistake it takes WAY longer

Not to add to your stress, but EDD is NOTORIOUS for "losing" electronic submissions!!! I've had THREE different forms "disappear" in their system over the past year. The doctor's office will swear they sent it, EDD will claim they never got it, and you're stuck in the middle with no income! It's criminal how they treat people who are already dealing with health issues! I strongly recommend having your doctor ALSO submit a paper form as backup - yes it's more work for them but it could save you weeks of waiting and stress!

•While I understand your frustration, I want to clarify that EDD actually recommends against submitting duplicate forms (both electronic and paper) as this can cause processing delays and confusion in their system. The electronic system does provide confirmation numbers, so the better approach is to ask the medical provider for this confirmation and then reference it when contacting EDD.

Quick update for everyone following this thread - I checked with my disability case manager today (I handle HR for a small company), and she confirmed that current processing times for DE 2525XX electronic extensions are averaging 8-10 business days as of January 2025. This is actually an improvement over late last year when it was taking 12-15 days. Also, for the original poster: make sure your doctor didn't accidentally submit it as a new claim instead of an extension. This happens more often than you'd think and can cause major delays.

•Thank you for checking! That's really helpful to know. I called my doctor's office and they confirmed they submitted it as an extension with the correct claim number. They also gave me the confirmation number, so at least I know it was submitted properly. I guess I just need to be patient for a few more days.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that my extension finally showed up in the system today! So it took exactly 8 business days from when my doctor submitted it. Thanks everyone for your advice and calming my nerves. For anyone else dealing with this in the future, definitely ask your doctor for the electronic confirmation number - that was super helpful when I called EDD.

So glad to see your update worked out @Keisha Williams! I'm actually going through something similar right now - my doctor submitted my DE 2525XX extension on Tuesday and I'm at day 5 of waiting. Reading through this thread has been really helpful, especially knowing about asking for the confirmation number (which I didn't even know existed). Quick question for anyone who's been through this - do you get any kind of notification when it processes, or does it just silently update in your SDI account? I've been checking obsessively but want to make sure I'm not missing anything. My benefits don't end for another 3 weeks so I'm in better shape timing-wise, but the anxiety is still real when you're dealing with recovery and financial stress at the same time.

•Hey @Ava Williams! From my experience, there's no notification when it processes - it just quietly updates in your SDI account. The system will suddenly show your new benefit end date and any pending payments. I was checking mine 2-3 times a day (probably obsessively too lol) and one morning it was just there. Since you have 3 weeks left, you're in a much better position than I was. The confirmation number your doctor should have is definitely worth getting - it gives you something concrete to reference if you need to call EDD. Hope your recovery is going well!

I'm currently waiting on my DE 2525XX extension too - submitted 6 days ago and still nothing showing up in my account. This thread has been incredibly helpful, especially learning about the confirmation number (my doctor's office didn't mention that when I called yesterday). One thing I wanted to add for anyone else reading this - I called EDD yesterday and the rep mentioned that if your extension gets approved after your benefits technically end, you won't miss any payments. The system automatically backpays from your original end date once the extension processes. Still stressful waiting, but at least there's some protection built in. @Keisha Williams glad yours came through! And @Ava Williams, sounds like you're in a much better timeline situation than most of us. The waiting game with EDD is definitely anxiety-inducing when you're already dealing with health issues.

•Thanks for sharing that info about the backpay @Andre Laurent! That's actually really reassuring to know. I'm on day 3 of waiting for my extension to process and have been stressed about potentially missing payments. My doctor submitted it electronically but I didn't know about asking for a confirmation number until reading this thread - definitely calling them tomorrow to get that. It's crazy how much anxiety this whole process adds when you're already dealing with recovery. Hope yours processes soon!

Just wanted to chime in as someone who's been through the EDD disability extension process multiple times over the past two years due to ongoing health issues. The electronic DE 2525XX system has definitely improved, but the waiting period is still nerve-wracking every single time. A few tips that have helped me: 1. Always get that confirmation number from your doctor - it's your proof of submission 2. The "business days" count excludes weekends and holidays, so don't panic if it seems like it's taking forever 3. Your SDI account won't show "processing" status - it just updates suddenly when approved 4. If you're getting close to day 10-12 with no update, that's when I'd start making calls The retroactive payment thing is real - I've had benefits "lapse" twice and still got paid for the gap period once the extension processed. Still stressful though! Hang in there everyone, and don't hesitate to advocate for yourselves if something seems off.

•@Carmen Ruiz this is incredibly helpful, thank you! As someone new to this process, I had no idea about the business days vs calendar days distinction - that explains why I was getting more anxious than I needed to be. I m'on day 4 of waiting for my extension and was starting to panic, but knowing it could take up to 10-12 business days gives me a better timeline to work with. The retroactive payment info is also really reassuring. It s'frustrating that EDD doesn t'make any of this clear in their communications - having to rely on community knowledge like this thread to understand the actual process. Really appreciate you sharing your experience!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! My doctor submitted my DE 2525XX extension electronically 4 days ago and I've been checking my SDI account obsessively with no updates. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been such a relief - I had no idea about the confirmation number thing and was starting to panic that maybe it didn't go through properly. The timing stress is so real when you're already dealing with recovery. My original 6-week approval is ending in 9 days and I definitely need more time after my knee surgery complications. It's crazy how EDD doesn't provide any transparency about processing times or status updates - you're just left in the dark wondering if your form disappeared into the void. Thanks everyone for sharing your timelines and tips. Definitely calling my doctor tomorrow to get that confirmation number, and it's reassuring to know that 8-10 business days seems to be the current norm. The retroactive payment info also takes some of the edge off the timing anxiety.

•@Sofia Peña I totally understand that anxiety! I m'actually on day 6 of waiting for my extension to process and have been in the exact same boat - checking my account multiple times a day and worrying it got lost in the system. This thread has been a lifesaver for understanding the actual timeline. The confirmation number is definitely key - I got mine from my doctor s'office yesterday and it gave me so much peace of mind knowing it was actually submitted properly. 4 days is still well within the normal range based on what everyone s'sharing here, so try not to stress too much easier (said than done, I know! .)Hope your knee recovery is going well and that your extension comes through soon. The waiting game with EDD is brutal when you re'already dealing with health stuff.

I'm dealing with this exact situation right now too! My doctor submitted my DE 2525XX extension electronically 5 days ago and I've been refreshing my SDI account constantly with no updates showing. Reading through all these experiences has been incredibly helpful - especially learning about the confirmation number (had no idea that was a thing!). My initial 8-week disability period ends in 12 days and I'm getting really anxious about the timing. I had spinal fusion surgery and recovery is taking longer than expected. It's so frustrating that EDD doesn't give you any visibility into whether they received the form or where it is in processing. @Keisha Williams so glad your extension came through! And thanks to everyone else sharing their timelines - knowing 8-10 business days is typical really helps manage expectations. Definitely calling my doctor tomorrow to get that confirmation number. The retroactive payment info also helps with the anxiety about potentially missing payments if it processes after my benefits end. This whole system really needs better communication and transparency for people who are already stressed about their health and finances!

•@Gabriel Ruiz I m'in almost the exact same situation! Day 7 waiting for my DE 2525XX extension to process after spinal surgery complications. The lack of transparency from EDD is honestly maddening when you re'already dealing with recovery stress and financial anxiety. I ve'been obsessively checking my account too - sounds like we re'all doing that! This thread has been such a lifesaver for understanding the actual process. Definitely get that confirmation number from your doctor - it s'the only way to know for sure they submitted it properly. 5 days is still well within the normal range based on everyone s'experiences here. The retroactive payment thing has been really reassuring to learn about too. Hope your spinal fusion recovery goes smoothly and your extension processes soon! The waiting game is brutal but at least we re'not alone in this.

I'm currently going through this exact same process right now - my doctor submitted my DE 2525XX extension electronically 3 days ago and I've been checking my SDI account multiple times daily with no updates yet. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been incredibly reassuring, especially learning that 8-10 business days is the current normal processing time. The anxiety is so real when you're dealing with recovery and worrying about finances at the same time. I had no idea about the confirmation number until reading this thread - definitely calling my doctor's office tomorrow to get that. My original 6-week approval ends in 2 weeks, so the timing should work out, but the uncertainty is stressful. Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines and experiences, especially @Keisha Williams for the update that yours processed successfully. It's frustrating that EDD doesn't provide any transparency about processing status, but at least we have this community to help navigate the system. The retroactive payment info has also been really helpful to know - takes some pressure off the timing concerns.

I'm currently in week 2 of waiting for my DE 2525XX extension to process and this thread has been incredibly helpful! My doctor submitted it electronically 9 business days ago and still nothing showing in my SDI account. I'm getting close to that 10-12 day mark that @Carmen Ruiz mentioned as the point to start making calls. What's really frustrating is that I did get the confirmation number from my doctor's office (thanks to this thread for that tip!), but when I tried calling EDD yesterday with that number, they said they couldn't find it in their system yet. The rep told me to wait another few days before calling back. My benefits technically ended 2 days ago, so I'm hoping that retroactive payment thing everyone mentioned is real. Has anyone else had their extension process after benefits already expired? The financial stress on top of recovery is really getting to me. I'm dealing with complications from gallbladder surgery and really can't return to work yet, but the uncertainty about payments is making everything worse. Really appreciate this community for sharing real experiences - EDD's website tells you basically nothing useful about actual processing times or what to expect.

•@StellarSurfer I'm so sorry you're dealing with this stress on top of recovery! I went through something similar last year where my extension processed 4 days after my benefits technically ended, and yes - the retroactive payments are absolutely real. I got backpaid for every day I missed once it finally went through. At 9 business days, you're definitely getting close to that threshold where calling makes sense. It's frustrating that the EDD rep couldn't find it in their system with the confirmation number, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's lost - sometimes there's a delay between when it's submitted and when it shows up in their lookup system. I'd try calling again tomorrow or Monday if still no update by then. The financial anxiety during recovery is brutal - I totally get it. But based on everyone's experiences in this thread, your extension should process soon and you won't lose any payments. Hang in there, and keep advocating for yourself with EDD if needed. Hope your gallbladder recovery goes smoothly!

•@StellarSurfer I completely understand your anxiety - I'm actually in a similar boat right now! My extension was submitted 6 days ago and I'm also approaching that nerve-wracking 10-day mark. The fact that EDD couldn't find your form with the confirmation number is concerning, but @Emma Thompson is right that there can be delays in their lookup system. I've heard from others that sometimes the forms get stuck in a processing queue and then suddenly appear all at once. Since your benefits already ended, definitely keep pushing with EDD - you shouldn't have to go without income during recovery. The retroactive payment stories from this thread have been really reassuring, but I know that doesn't help with immediate bills and stress. Keep calling them every day at this point - squeaky wheel gets the grease with EDD unfortunately. Hope your gallbladder complications improve soon and this gets resolved quickly!

•@StellarSurfer I went through the exact same thing - my extension processed 6 days after my benefits ended and I got every penny in backpay once it came through. At 9 business days with a confirmation number, I'd definitely start calling daily now. Sometimes their lookup system lags behind the actual processing, so even if they can't find it today doesn't mean it's lost. I know the financial stress is overwhelming when you're trying to recover, but based on all the experiences shared here, you should be getting that approval very soon. Keep pushing them for updates and don't let them brush you off. Your gallbladder recovery is hard enough without this EDD stress!

I'm dealing with this exact situation too - my doctor submitted my DE 2525XX extension electronically 2 days ago and I've already been checking my SDI account obsessively! This thread has been such a relief to find. I had no idea about the confirmation number (definitely calling my doctor tomorrow to get that) or that processing takes 8-10 business days. My original 4-week approval ends in 16 days after shoulder surgery, so I'm in a better timeline position than some of you were, but the anxiety is still so real when you're already dealing with recovery and financial stress. It's ridiculous that EDD provides zero transparency about their process - you're just left wondering if your form disappeared into the void. @StellarSurfer I really hope your extension processes soon! The retroactive payment info from everyone here is reassuring, but I know that doesn't help with immediate stress. Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences and timelines - this community knowledge is invaluable when EDD's official resources tell you basically nothing useful.

•@Fiona Gallagher You re'definitely in a much better position timeline-wise with 16 days left! I just went through this process myself - submitted my extension 2 weeks ago and it processed on day 8. The confirmation number from your doctor is absolutely crucial to get - it s'your only proof that the form was actually submitted. Two days is still very early in the process, so try not to stress too much yet I (know, easier said than done! .)The obsessive account checking is so relatable - I was doing the same thing multiple times a day. This thread really helped me understand what s'normal vs what to worry about. Your shoulder recovery should be your main focus right now - the EDD stuff will work itself out within the typical timeframe. Keep us posted on how it goes!

I had no idea about asking for the confirmation number until reading through all these comments. Definitely calling my doctor's office tomorrow to get that for peace of mind. My original 6-week approval after hip surgery ends in 10 days, so the timing should work out based on everyone's shared timelines, but the uncertainty is still stressful when you're already dealing with recovery. I'm currently going through this exact process too! My doctor just submitted my DE 2525XX extension electronically yesterday and I'm already feeling that familiar anxiety about whether it went through properly.
