EDD SDI payments stopped after one week - how to get them moving again?

Hey everyone, I'm in a tough spot with my disability payments. I got injured a few months back and applied for disability right after. But I've only gotten one week of payments since then. Nothing's changed on my end, but the money just stopped coming. Anyone else dealing with this? Any advice on how to get things moving again?

I found a way to solve disability payment delays, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnebbN-BLqY

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds sketchy af. You sure this isn't a scam?

Nah, it's legit. I was skeptical too but it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's messed up. The system is so broken we gotta pay just to get help smh

I've used Claimyr too, and while it did work, I agree it's unfortunate we have to resort to paying. However, when desperate, sometimes it's worth the cost.

Have you considered applying for other forms of assistance while you wait? Food stamps, rental assistance, etc. Might help tide you over until EDD gets their act together.

That's a good idea, thanks. I'll look into what's available in my area. Every little bit helps at this point.

This! 211 is a great resource for finding local assistance programs. Def worth checking out

You might also want to look into community assistance programs. Sometimes local churches and nonprofits offer short-term aid.

This is why we need major reform in our social safety net. The fact that injured workers have to struggle like this is a disgrace. Vote for politicians who prioritize fixing these broken systems!

Preach! 🙌 The whole system needs an overhaul. It's 2023, why are we still dealing with this outdated bureaucracy?

Lol yeah cuz politicians have done such a great job so far 🙄 Wake up, they don't care about us

True, but we have to keep pushing for change. Grassroots efforts can sometimes make more of a difference than waiting on politicians.

Ugh, classic EDD nonsense. I swear they're designed to make us suffer. Have you tried calling them? It's a nightmare, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

Yeah, I've been trying to call for weeks. It's impossible to get through. Either busy signals or hours on hold only to get disconnected. It's driving me crazy!

Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and be ready to dial the second they start taking calls. It's still a pain, but your chances are way better.

Another trick is to try calling during off-peak hours, like late in the day before they close. I've managed to get through faster that way.

Okay, let me break this down for you. I've been through this rodeo before and here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact EDD, including dates and times. 2. Check your online account daily. Sometimes they update info without notifying you. 3. Make sure all your paperwork is in order. Double-check that you've submitted everything they've asked for. 4. If you can't get through on the phone, try their social media. Sometimes they respond faster there. 5. As someone else mentioned, contacting your local rep can help. They often have dedicated staff for these issues. 6. If all else fails, consider filing a complaint with the state labor board. It's a nuclear option, but it can light a fire under them. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up, and don't let them wear you down. You're entitled to these benefits, so keep fighting for them!

Great advice but its so messed up that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get what were owed. The system is broken af

It's sad that those who are already struggling have to become experts in navigating such a convoluted system just to receive what they're entitled to.

Hey OP, what kind of injury are you dealing with? I'm in a similar boat and wondering if the type of injury affects how EDD handles the claim.

I hurt my back at work. Slipped disc. It's been a slow recovery process. Not sure if different injuries are treated differently by EDD, but it's an interesting question.

I had a similar injury, and it seemed like they needed more detailed medical reports. Might be worth double-checking everything you sent them.

Unpopular opinion: maybe try going back to work? I know injuries suck, but sitting around waiting for EDD ain't gonna pay the bills.

Dude, if I could work, I would. My doctor hasn't cleared me yet. Trust me, I'd much rather be earning a paycheck than dealing with this mess.

Wow, way to be insensitive. You don't know OP's situation. Some injuries take time to heal.

Hi OP, I'm so sorry to hear about the troubles you're having with your disability payments. Getting answers from the EDD can be challenging. Claimyr is a service that can help connect you with an EDD agent by navigating the phone system and holding your place in line, but it does come at a cost. While many have found it effective, relying on a paid service to access your benefits should never be necessary. It's important to continue trying different tactics, like calling at different times, keeping thorough records, and even exploring other avenues of temporary support. Community resources, legal assistance, and even your local representative's office might offer additional help. It's frustrating when systems that are supposed to support us fall short, but persistence and leveraging every available resource can often lead to progress. Keep pushing, and I hope you find a resolution soon.

I feel ya, buddy. The system is so broken. I've been waiting on backpay for like 3 months now. It's ridiculous how they expect people to survive without income. Hang in there!

It's a real struggle. Have you tried contacting an advocate or legal aid for assistance in these cases?

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They sometimes have connections and can help push things through. Worth a shot!

0 coins

-

Yuki Watanabe

I hadn't even thought of that. How do I find out who my assembly member is?

0 coins

-

Dmitry Ivanov

Just google "[your city] assembly member". Their office should have a way to contact them for constituent services. Good luck!

Some assembly members are more proactive than others, so it might be worth reaching out to several offices.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes there's info there about why payments stopped. Could be they need more info or something.

Good idea, I'll take another look. Last time I checked it just said my claim was processing, but maybe something's changed. Fingers crossed 🤞

Yea def check online. I had a similar issue and turns out they needed some extra medical docs. Uploaded them and payments started again in like a week.

Also, make sure your contact info is up to date in their system. Sometimes they try to reach out but can't because of outdated info.
