EDD SDI payment authorized but not in bank account - sent to Money Network instead?

Feeling super stressed right now! My EDD case manager told me that my disability payment was authorized today, but my bank account is still showing zero new deposits. I specifically chose direct deposit when I filed my claim in January. I never received a Money Network debit card and honestly don't want to deal with that extra hassle. Has anyone experienced this where EDD says your SDI payment is authorized but then sends it to Money Network anyway instead of using your direct deposit info? How long does it typically take for authorized payments to actually hit your account? I'm worried they ignored my direct deposit selection and now I'll have to wait weeks for some card to arrive.

This happens ALL the time with EDD. When they say "authorized" it just means they approved the payment, not that it was processed. Direct deposit usually takes 1-2 business days AFTER authorization. If your payment was authorized today, I wouldn't expect to see it until tomorrow at the earliest, maybe the day after. The Money Network card is only sent if you didn't select direct deposit or if there was an issue with your banking info.

Oh thank god!! That makes me feel so much better. I was panicking that I'd have to wait forever for some card. My rent is due next week and this disability payment needs to hit my account ASAP.

The EXACT same thing happened to me back in December!!! I was FREAKING OUT!! I called EDD like 60 times over two days and couldn't get through. Then suddenly on day 3 the money just showed up in my bank account. Just wait a few days before panicking.

Calling EDD is a complete nightmare. I spent 4 hours on hold last month trying to fix a payment issue. If you absolutely need to talk to someone and can't wait days on hold, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I found it after my doctor's office recommended it - they connect you with an EDD agent way faster. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. It saved me from losing my mind when I needed to verify why my payment was delayed.

Just to clarify some common misconceptions about EDD SDI payments: 1. Authorization is just the first step - it means your certification was approved and payment will be issued 2. Processing typically takes 24-48 business hours after authorization 3. Direct deposit takes an additional 1-2 business days after processing 4. Money Network cards are only sent if: - You specifically selected this option - Your direct deposit information was invalid - There was a problem with your bank accepting the deposit If it's been more than 4 business days since authorization, then you should contact EDD to verify your payment method. Also, always double-check your account information in SDI Online to make sure your direct deposit details are correct.

i think u can also check ur payment history on the edd website to see if it says direct deposit or card!! that might help the op figure out where its going

UPDATE: You guys were right! The payment just hit my account this morning - it took about 36 hours after they said it was authorized. Thanks for keeping me from having a complete meltdown, lol!

the EDD needs to explain this better to people... they make everything so confusing and then wonder why everyone panics!! glad you got your payment!!

This reminds me of when I was on disability last summer and had a similar freak out moment. My claim got approved but I didn't see money for like a week. Turns out I had accidentally checked the wrong payment option when I was filling out the form late at night. Had to switch everything over from the debit card to direct deposit and it was such a headache. Always triple check those forms people!

That's a good point. For anyone reading this thread later: if you need to change your payment method from debit card to direct deposit (or vice versa), you need to log into your SDI Online account, go to "Payment Method" under "Account Information" and make the change there. It can take up to 7 days for the change to fully process, so plan accordingly.

So glad this worked out for you! I went through the exact same panic when I first started getting SDI payments. The waiting period between "authorized" and actually seeing the money in your account is the worst part - EDD really should make this timeline clearer to people. For future reference, if you ever need to track your payment status more closely, you can also check the "Payment Activity" section in your SDI Online account which shows the exact date payments were issued vs. when they're expected to deposit. Congrats on getting through the process!

This is such valuable info! I'm new to this whole SDI process and honestly had no idea there was a "Payment Activity" section that shows those details. Going to bookmark this thread because I have a feeling I'll need to reference it again. The stress of waiting for that first payment when you're already dealing with a disability is just brutal - thanks for breaking down exactly where to find the tracking info!

Just wanted to chime in as someone who's been through this process multiple times over the years. The anxiety around that first payment is totally normal - I remember refreshing my bank account every hour when I was waiting for my initial SDI deposit! One thing that helped me was setting up text alerts with my bank so I'd get notified immediately when any deposit hit my account. That way I wasn't constantly checking manually. Also, if you're ever in a situation where you need the money urgently and it's taking longer than expected, some banks will give you a provisional credit if you can show proof of the authorized payment from EDD. Worth asking about if you're in a tight spot with bills!

That's such a smart tip about setting up bank alerts! I wish I had thought of that when I was going through this stress. The provisional credit idea is also really helpful - I had no idea banks would do that. It's crazy how much anxiety this whole process causes when you're already dealing with health issues and financial pressure. Thanks for sharing these practical solutions!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed my SDI claim a few weeks ago and just got the "authorized" notification yesterday. Reading through all these responses is so reassuring - I was starting to worry they lost my direct deposit info or something. It's really frustrating that EDD doesn't explain the difference between "authorized" and "processed" clearly. Like, when they say authorized, most people assume that means the money is on its way immediately. The fact that there's still a 1-3 day processing period after authorization should be spelled out more clearly in their communications. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this thread is going to save a lot of people from unnecessary panic attacks!

You're absolutely right about EDD's confusing terminology! I just went through this exact situation a couple months ago and was pulling my hair out wondering why "authorized" didn't mean the money was already on its way. It would save everyone so much stress if they just said something like "Your payment has been approved and will be processed within 1-3 business days" instead of just "authorized." Hope your payment hits your account soon - based on everyone's experiences here, it sounds like you should see it by tomorrow or the next day!

This whole thread is so helpful! I'm currently waiting for my first SDI payment too and was getting really anxious about the timing. It's honestly ridiculous how EDD doesn't explain their process better - like why not just say "authorized means approved, but allow 2-3 business days for deposit" instead of leaving everyone guessing? The terminology is so misleading. I've been checking my bank account obsessively since getting the authorization notice yesterday. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and timelines here - it's way more informative than anything on the actual EDD website!

Totally agree! I'm new to this community and just started my SDI claim process last week. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been way more helpful than trying to navigate the EDD website or calling their customer service. It's crazy that we have to rely on each other to figure out what "authorized" actually means instead of EDD just being clear about it upfront. I'm bookmarking this thread for when my payment gets authorized - at least now I'll know to expect that 2-3 day wait instead of panicking when the money doesn't appear immediately. Thanks to everyone for sharing their timelines and tips!

As someone who's been dealing with EDD for disability payments on and off over the past few years, I can totally relate to this stress! The waiting period between "authorized" and seeing the actual money is brutal, especially when you're already dealing with health issues and financial pressure. One thing I learned that might help future readers - if you're ever unsure about your payment method, you can actually call your bank and ask if they have any pending ACH deposits from the state of California. Sometimes they can see incoming transfers before they officially post to your account. Also, I always recommend taking a screenshot of the "authorized" notification from EDD with the date/time stamp - it's helpful documentation if there are ever any delays or issues that require you to call their customer service later. The system definitely needs to be more transparent about timing!

That's a really smart tip about calling your bank to check for pending ACH deposits! I never thought of that but it makes total sense - they might be able to see it in their system before it officially shows up in your account balance. The screenshot idea is brilliant too, especially since EDD's systems can be so glitchy. I'm definitely going to do both of those things when my payment gets authorized. It's so frustrating that we have to become experts in navigating their confusing system just to get the benefits we're entitled to, but at least this community helps us share all these workarounds and tips!

This thread is incredibly helpful for understanding EDD's confusing payment timeline! I'm currently on my third week of disability leave and just submitted my first certification yesterday. Reading everyone's experiences here has definitely prepared me for what to expect when I get that "authorized" notification. It's honestly pretty disappointing that EDD's own website and documentation doesn't clearly explain that "authorized" just means approved, not processed or deposited. The fact that we all have to come to community forums to figure out basic timing information shows how much room for improvement there is in their communication. I'm definitely going to use some of the tips mentioned here like setting up bank alerts and taking screenshots of authorization notices. Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines - it's reassuring to know that 1-3 business days after authorization seems to be the normal range for direct deposit!

I'm so glad this thread exists too! I just joined this community after getting frustrated trying to find clear information about SDI payment timelines on EDD's official site. It's wild that their own documentation is so vague about something as basic as when your money will actually show up after approval. I'm still waiting for my claim to be reviewed, but now I know exactly what to expect when I get that authorization notice. The tip about bank alerts is genius - I'm setting that up right now so I don't drive myself crazy constantly checking my balance. It really shouldn't be this hard to understand their process, but I'm grateful we have each other to figure it out together!
