EDD SDI claim filed 2 months ago, no response or payment. What to do?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I filed a disability insurance claim back on January 1st and it's been over two months now. Still haven't heard a peep from EDD or received any payments. Anyone else dealing with this? Any advice on what I should do next? I'm thinking about calling them, but not sure what to say or ask. Help a fellow claimant out!

Ugh, I feel your pain! I've been there before. Here's what I'd suggest: • Call them ASAP. The longer you wait, the more backed up you'll be. • When you call, be prepared with your claim number and all relevant dates. • Ask specifically if there are any pending documents they need from you. • Request a timeline for when you can expect a response or payment. • Get the name of the person you speak with and a reference number for the call. Stay persistent! Sometimes you gotta be the squeaky wheel to get the grease. Good luck!

•This is solid advice right here 💯 I'd add: keep a log of every call you make, who you talked to, and what they said. It'll help if you need to escalate later.

•Thanks so much for this! Really helpful. Quick question - how long did it take for your claim to go through after you started calling?

•For me, it took about 3 weeks of consistent calling before I saw any movement. But I've heard it can vary a lot. Just don't give up!

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update info there before sending anything out. Also, make sure you didn't miss any mail from them asking for additional info.

•Good point! I'll double-check my account and mail. Fingers crossed I didn't miss anything important.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. Used it twice now. Yeah, $20 sucks, but it beats wasting hours on hold or not getting through at all. Time is money, ya know?

•I've used it too. Worked like a charm. Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money 🤷♂️

pro tip: if u cant get thru on the main line, try calling one of the smaller field offices. sometimes theyre less busy and can still help

Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? They often have staff dedicated to helping constituents with EDD issues. It's like having someone go to bat for you.

•I hadn't even thought of that! Great idea. I'll look up my rep and give it a shot.

Unpopular opinion: maybe try faxing them? I know it sounds ancient, but I've heard some people have success because hardly anyone uses fax anymore so it gets attention.

•You laugh, but this actually worked for me! Sent a fax and got a call back within 2 days. Sometimes old school wins.

•Hang in there! Have you looked into any local resources for temporary assistance? Some nonprofits offer help while you're waiting on benefits.

Two months is way too long! I went through something similar last year. Here's what finally got things moving for me: 1. Call the EDD disability line at 8am SHARP - they open at 8 and that's your best shot at getting through 2. When you get the automated menu, press 1-2-4 (that usually gets you to a human faster) 3. Have your Social Security number, claim number, and the exact dates you filed ready 4. Ask them to check if your claim is "pending" or if there's a "stop payment" flag 5. Request they email you a summary of your call Also, check if your doctor submitted the medical certification form properly - that's a common holdup. I had to bug my doctor's office twice because they "forgot" to send it. Don't give up! The system is broken but you deserve your benefits. Keep calling every day if you have to.
