EDD hasn't paid since December despite doctor's extension - What to do?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I haven't received any disability payments since early December, even though my doctor sent over notes to extend my disability. I'm trying to figure out what's going on with my claim. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm thinking about calling EDD to see if they need more information or if there's a hold-up somewhere. Any advice on what I should ask when I get through to them?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was in the same boat last year. Have you checked your online account to see if there are any messages or updates? Sometimes they post stuff there before sending anything in the mail.

Thanks for the tip! I've been checking my online account daily, but there's nothing new. It's so frustrating 😤

Pro tip: set up email notifications for your EDD account. That way you don't have to keep logging in to check for updates. Saved me a ton of headaches!

I swear, the EDD is a black hole where claims go to die. I've been waiting on an appeal for MONTHS. Good luck getting any real info from them 🙄

Here's what you need to do: 1. Call EDD first thing in the morning, right when they open. You'll have a better chance of getting through. 2. Have all your claim info ready - claim number, last payment date, etc. 3. Ask specifically if they received your doctor's notes and if there's any additional info needed. 4. If they say everything's fine, ask for an estimated payment date. 5. Get the name of the rep you talk to and a reference number for the call. 6. If they can't help, ask to speak to a supervisor. 7. Document EVERYTHING. Stay persistent and don't let them brush you off. You got this! 💪

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help push things along with EDD. Worth a shot if you're getting nowhere on your own.

I hadn't even thought of that. How would I go about contacting them?

Just google your city + 'assembly member' and you should find their contact info. Most have forms on their websites for constituent services. Explain your situation and they might be able to help!

Thanks so much, I'll give that a try if I can't get anywhere with EDD directly.

Guys, I finally found a way to get through to EDD! I used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it actually works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Are you sure it's legit?

I was skeptical too, but I tried it and it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

20 bucks tho? Idk man, seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get it, but think about how much time you waste trying to get through. For me, it was worth it to finally talk to someone.

Have you checked if your claim is still active? Sometimes they close it without notifying you and you have to reopen it. Happened to me and I lost out on weeks of payments 😭

Oh no, that sounds awful! I'll definitely check on that. Thanks for the heads up!

Unpopular opinion: maybe try going to an EDD office in person? I know it's a pain, but sometimes face-to-face is the only way to get answers.

Do they even allow walk-ins anymore? I thought everything was appointment only now.

Some offices do limited walk-ins. Worth checking their website for your local office's policy.
