Need help checking status of EDD disability payment - any tips to actually reach someone?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to check on the status of my disability payment. I filed a claim recently and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get through to someone at EDD? It's been a while and I haven't heard anything back. Any advice would be appreciated!

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been trying to get through to EDD for weeks now. It's like they're purposely making it impossible to talk to a real person. Have you tried calling right when they open? That's worked for me in the past.

•Calling when they open is hit or miss. I've had better luck calling around 3pm. Seems like thats when the lunch rush dies down.

•I've heard people say to call at weird times like 11:53 AM or 4:27 PM. Supposedly less traffic then. Worth a shot maybe? 🤷♂️

•Thanks for the suggestions! I'll give those a try. It's so frustrating that we have to play these games just to get basic information about our claims.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update the status there before sending out any notices. Might save you a phone call if the info is already there.

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😡

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Sometimes you gotta pay to play 🤷♀️

•How long did you have to wait after using the service?

•It took about 2 hours, but I just went about my day and got a call when an agent was ready. Way better than being stuck on hold myself.

Pro tip: keep a detailed log of all your calls, including dates, times, and names of anyone you speak to. It'll help if you need to escalate your case later.

•This! 💯 Documentation is key when dealing with bureaucracy. I learned that the hard way.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They sometimes have direct lines to EDD and can help push your claim through.

•I hadn't thought of that! Do you know how I would go about contacting them?

•Just google your district and 'assembly member'. Their office should have a contact form or phone number. They're usually pretty responsive!

Honestly, the whole system is a joke. I've been waiting 3 months for my disability payments and still nothing. It's like they want us to give up and go away. Stay strong and keep pushing!

•3 months?! That's insane. Have you considered legal action? There must be some kind of time limit they have to adhere to.

Here's what I've learned from my experience with EDD disability claims: 1. Be persistent. Call every day if you have to. 2. Use the online portal to upload any additional documents they might need. 3. Make sure your doctor has submitted all necessary medical certifications. 4. If you're not getting anywhere, consider filing for a fair hearing. 5. Keep all your paperwork organized and easily accessible. 6. Don't be afraid to ask for a supervisor if the first agent can't help. 7. Check your spam folder regularly for any missed communications. Remember, it's your money and you're entitled to it. Don't let the bureaucracy discourage you. Good luck!

I went through this same nightmare last year. Here's what finally worked for me: call the 1-800-480-3287 number at exactly 8:01 AM (not 8:00, they're swamped then). Press 1-2-1 quickly, then when you get to the "due to high call volume" message, DON'T hang up. Just wait it out - I know it's painful but I've gotten through after 2-3 hours of holding. Also, make sure you have your claim number, SSN, and all your paperwork ready because they'll want to verify everything immediately. The wait is brutal but you WILL eventually get through to someone who can actually help. Hang in there! 💪
