EDD SDI: Can't change address when filing new claim - grayed out fields
Hey everyone, I'm trying to file a new claim with EDD SDI but I'm running into a problem. When I go to change my mailing and residence address, it's all grayed out and I can't edit it. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any ideas on how to fix it? I really need to get this claim filed asap.

I found a way to solve EDD address change issue, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3zCjcksvnI

Ugh, classic EDD website issues. 🙄 I had the same problem last month. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? Sometimes that helps with weird glitches like this.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give that a try and report back. Fingers crossed it works 🤞

•Clearing cache rarely works for EDD issues in my experience. Their system is just a hot mess 🤡

•True that. EDD's website is held together with duct tape and prayers at this point 😂

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😡

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Sometimes you gotta pay to play with these govt agencies 🤷♂️

•Can confirm, I've used this service too. Worth every penny when you're desperate to get through.

Have you tried using a different browser? Sometimes the EDD website acts up on certain browsers. I had luck using Firefox when Chrome was giving me issues.

Okay, listen up. I've been dealing with EDD for years and here's what you need to do: 1. Try accessing the site during off-peak hours (like 2 AM) 2. Use an incognito/private browsing window 3. If that doesn't work, call this number: 1-800-480-3287 4. When you get the automated system, press 1, then 2, then 1 again 5. If you still can't get through, keep calling. It's a numbers game. Remember, persistence is key with EDD. Don't give up! And if all else fails, consider contacting your local state representative. They can sometimes intervene on your behalf. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat, OP. Been trying to update my address for weeks now. This whole system is a joke. Anyone know if there's a class action lawsuit we can join? 🤔

•Honestly, at this point a lawsuit might be the only way to get them to fix their broken system. I'd be down to join.

•Careful what you wish for. A lawsuit could tie things up for years and make it even harder to get benefits in the meantime.

Hey OP, any luck with fixing the issue? I'm curious because I might need to file a claim soon too and want to be prepared for potential headaches.

•Not yet, unfortunately. Still working through all the suggestions. I'll update when I figure it out!

I had this exact same issue a few months ago! The grayed out fields are usually because EDD has your address "locked" in their system from a previous claim or account. What worked for me was calling the technical support line (not the regular claims line) at 1-800-300-5616. They have a separate team that can unlock address fields. It took about 30 minutes on hold, but they were able to fix it immediately once I got through. Make sure to have your SSN and previous claim info ready. Hope this helps!

•This is super helpful! I've been calling the regular claims line and getting nowhere. I didn't even know there was a separate technical support line. Definitely going to try this tomorrow - thanks for sharing the specific number and what to have ready! 🙏

I actually ran into this exact issue last year! The grayed out fields usually mean there's a data validation error or your previous claim is still "active" in their system. A few things that worked for me: 1. Try logging out completely, clearing all cookies/cache, then logging back in 2. If that doesn't work, you might need to call and have them manually close your previous claim first 3. Sometimes using the mobile app instead of the website can bypass these glitches The whole process is frustrating but don't give up! Once you get past this hurdle, the rest of the claim process is pretty straightforward. Let us know what ends up working for you - it might help others facing the same issue.

•Thanks for these additional tips! I'm going to try the mobile app approach - never thought of that. It's so frustrating that we have to jump through all these hoops just to update basic info like an address. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and solutions here. This community has been more helpful than EDD's actual customer service! 😅
