EDD Pink Letter - Doctor Needs to Fill Out for Payment Initiation. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm trying to initiate my payment but I'm stuck with this pink letter that the doctor needs to fill out. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I expect?

Ah, the infamous pink letter! 🙄 Yeah, I've been through that. It's basically a medical certification form that your doctor needs to complete. Make sure they fill it out ASAP and submit it, or you might face delays in getting your payments started.

How long did it take for your doctor to fill it out? Mine's been sitting on it for a week now 😤

Ugh, I feel ya. Mine took about 5 days, but I was calling the office every other day to check on it. Be the squeaky wheel!

Pro tip: drop it off in person if you can. I did that and waited while they filled it out. Took like 15 mins tops.

Quick question - have you already submitted the form to your doctor? If not, I'd recommend hand-delivering it if possible. That way you can explain how urgent it is.

OMG dont even get me started on that pink letter!!! 🤬 The whole system is so broken. Why cant they just make it digital already??? Its 2023 for crying out loud

Preach! 🙌 The bureaucracy is real. Sometimes I think they make it complicated on purpose to discourage people.

Idk man, I kinda get why they need a physical form. Prevents fraud and stuff. But yeah, the process could def be streamlined.

Here's what you need to know about the pink letter: • It's officially called a medical certification form • Your doctor needs to fill it out completely • Make sure all dates are correct and match your claim • Double-check that your doctor signs and dates it • Submit it as soon as possible to avoid payment delays • Keep a copy for your records • Follow up with your doctor's office if it's taking too long • If you have any issues, contact the EDD (be prepared to wait though) Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed breakdown! 🙏 This is super helpful. Do you know if theres a deadline for submitting the form after I receive it?

Glad I could help! There's no official deadline, but the sooner you submit it, the better. Delays in submitting can lead to delays in your payments. I'd aim to get it done within a week of receiving it if possible.

Guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone about this stuff. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? Thats highway robbery! 😠

I get the skepticism, but honestly, after spending hours trying to get through, it was worth every penny to me. Saved me so much time and frustration.

Just tried it and it actually worked! Got through in about 45 minutes. Thanks for the tip! 👍

Thanks for posting this question! I'm actually in a similar situation right now - just got my pink letter yesterday and trying to figure out the best approach. From reading everyone's responses, it sounds like being proactive with the doctor's office is key. @Ezra Bates, your breakdown was super helpful! I'm definitely going to try the hand-delivery approach that @Sarah Ali mentioned. Has anyone had issues with doctors not understanding what they need to fill out, or do they usually know the drill with these EDD forms?

Hey @Charlee Coleman! Most doctors are pretty familiar with EDD forms since they deal with disability paperwork regularly, but it doesn't hurt to give them a heads up about what it's for. When I dropped mine off, I made sure to mention it was for state disability benefits and that it was time-sensitive. The office staff usually knows to prioritize these. Also, if your doctor seems confused about any sections, you can always call EDD's customer service line (good luck with that though 😅) or check their website for clarification. The hand-delivery approach really does work wonders!

Been there! 😊 Just went through this whole pink letter ordeal last month. One thing I'd add to all the great advice here - if your doctor's office has an online patient portal, try messaging them through that too. I sent a message explaining the urgency and attached a photo of the form, and they actually prioritized it because they could see exactly what needed to be done. Also, don't forget to check that your doctor filled out the "return to work" section correctly if that applies to your situation - mine initially missed that part and it delayed everything by another week. The whole process is frustrating but you'll get through it! Keep us posted on how it goes.
