EDD Overpayment Offset Adjustment Request - No Response, What Next?
Has anyone else had trouble with their overpayment offset amount? I requested an adjustment a while back, but I'm not sure if it went through or how to check on the status. It's been a real headache trying to get this sorted out. Any advice on how to follow up or what to expect next would be really helpful!

Ugh, I feel your pain! I've been dealing with overpayment issues for months now. It's like talking to a brick wall sometimes. Have you tried calling them directly? That's what finally worked for me, but it took FOREVER to get through.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried calling a few times, but I always get stuck on hold for hours. Did you have any tricks for getting through to a real person?

Honestly, it was just pure luck and persistence. I called first thing in the morning, right when they opened. Took me about 3 days of trying before I finally got through. Hang in there!

Pro tip: use a calling service! I found this site (claimyr.com) that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then calls you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me a whole day of being glued to my phone. Totally worth the 20 bucks imho.

Idk man, paying to talk to a government agency feels wrong. Shouldn't this be free? 🤔

I get where you're coming from, but time is money. I'd rather pay $20 than waste an entire day on hold. Plus, it's not like the gov is getting the money - it's a private service.

I had a similar issue last year. Here's what worked for me: 1. Document everything! Keep a record of all your communications, including dates and names of who you spoke to. 2. Send a written request for adjustment via certified mail. This creates a paper trail. 3. If you don't hear back within 30 days, file an appeal. 4. Contact your local state representative's office. They can sometimes help push things along. 5. Be persistent but polite. It's frustrating, but the person on the other end is just doing their job. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely start documenting everything better. Do you have any tips for the appeal process if it comes to that?

For the appeal, make sure you gather all relevant documents (pay stubs, communications, etc.). Write a clear, concise letter explaining your situation and why you believe the overpayment amount is incorrect. Include copies (not originals) of your evidence. Send it certified mail and keep a copy for yourself. Good luck!

This is solid advice! 💯 I'd add one thing - if you can, try to calculate the correct amount yourself. It shows you've done your homework and gives them a starting point for review.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update the status there before sending out notices. It's worth a shot!

I did check, but it's not showing any updates. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? Where exactly should I be checking?

On the main dashboard, there should be a section called "Notices and Determinations" or something similar. If there's nothing new there, you might need to call unfortunately. :/

I'm in the same boat, friend. Been waiting on an adjustment for 3 months now. This system is so broken, it's not even funny anymore. Hang in there!

3 months?! That's insane. Have you tried reaching out to your local representatives? Sometimes they can help speed things up.

Not yet, but that's a good idea. I'll give it a shot. At this point, I'm willing to try anything!

Quick question - did you receive any kind of confirmation when you initially requested the adjustment? Might help to have that on hand when you follow up.

You know, I'm not sure if I did. I think I just spoke to someone on the phone. Lesson learned - always get written confirmation! 🤦♂️

Has anyone had luck with the online appeal process? I'm considering going that route but not sure if it's any faster than calling.

I tried it last year. It's not necessarily faster, but at least you don't have to sit on hold. Took about 6 weeks to get a response, but YMMV.

6 weeks? Oof. Still might be worth a shot tho. Thanks for the info!

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the main line, try calling some of the other departments. Sometimes they can transfer you internally and it's way faster than waiting on the general queue.

This is genius! 🧠 Never thought of that. Any specific departments you'd recommend trying?

I've had luck with the tax department and the general info line. Just be super polite and explain your situation - most people are willing to help if you're nice about it.

Unpopular opinion: sometimes it's faster to just pay the overpayment and then request a refund later. Worked for me when I was in a similar situation last year.

Idk man, that sounds risky. What if they don't refund you?

Fair point. It definitely depends on your financial situation. For me, it was worth it to get them off my back while I sorted out the paperwork. But yeah, not for everyone.
