Can't withdraw Cash Aid from West America Bank ATM in Hanford despite it being on approved list?
So I'm seriously frustrated right now. I tried to withdraw my Cash Aid money from West America Bank in Hanford (which is SUPPOSED to be on the approved list for EBT cash withdrawals) and the ATM kept declining my card. I called the EBT customer service number and they confirmed my money is definitely there and the card is working, so wtf? Are we not allowed to use certain ATMs now? Is there some new rule I missed? Do I have to go to a specific branch? I need this money for rent and my landlord doesn't take cards. Anyone else in Hanford area know where I can actually get my cash without fees? This is ridiculous.

Hi there! So there are definitely ATMs where you can withdraw your Cash Aid without fees, but sometimes specific ATMs at approved banks still have issues. West America should work, but I've had problems with certain machines too. Try these options in Hanford: 1. Checkout lines at FoodsCo, Walmart, or Walgreens (ask for cash back with a small purchase) 2. The Bank of America on Lacey Blvd 3. Golden 1 Credit Union ATMs All of these should be surcharge-free for EBT Cash withdrawals. The BofA on Lacey has always worked for me when others didn't. Hope this helps!

•Thank u! Didn't even think about the cash back option at stores. But why the heck is West America listed as approved if it won't work?? My rent is due tomorrow and I don't have a car to go all the way to Lacey. Gonna try the cashback at FoodsCo since its closer.

the same exact thing happened to me!!! i was at a bank on the "approved list" and it still charged me 3 DOLLARS to take out my cash. i think they change which ones are free all the time without telling anyone. so sneaky

•They do update the list sometimes, but there should always be at least 4 free withdrawals per month regardless. Make sure you're using your PIN correctly too - I kept messing mine up and getting charged until I realized I was typing it wrong lol.

From my experience working with CalWORKs recipients, this is a common issue. The list of surcharge-free ATMs can sometimes be outdated. Your best options in Hanford: - Use BenefitsCal website or app to find the CURRENT list of free ATMs - Call your EBT customer service again and specifically ask which locations in Hanford are confirmed working - As mentioned, cashback at point of sale (Walmart, FoodsCo) is often the most reliable way You should be able to withdraw your full Cash Aid amount for free at least 4 times per month. If you're being charged fees incorrectly, document everything and report it to your caseworker.

•Thanks for the detailed info. I checked BenefitsCal again and West America IS still listed! That's why I'm so confused. Maybe their system was down today? Gonna try again tomorrow morning before trying somewhere else.

This is SO frustrating! I've had the same issue and spent HOURS trying to reach someone at the county office about it. I was getting disconnected constantly when calling the regular CalWORKs line. Finally I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to a real person in like 5 minutes. They have this system that waits on hold for you and calls when a worker picks up. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE When I finally got through, the worker told me some ATMs have technical issues with EBT cards even if they're on the approved list. She recommended I use the BofA on Lacey or get cash back at grocery stores. Saved me so much stress!

•I just used that claimyer thing last week! It actully worked but is it safe? I was worried about giving my phone # but I really needed to talk to my worker about changing my address.

•Yeah I was worried too but it worked fine for me. Beats waiting on hold for 3 hours and getting disconnected!

Just to clarify some misinformation here - there are 2 separate things to consider with Cash Aid withdrawals: 1. Surcharge-free ATMs (no ATM fee) 2. No cash access fee from the EBT system itself You get 4 free cash withdrawals per month before EBT charges a $0.85 fee per withdrawal. This is separate from any ATM surcharge. Even if the ATM itself is "approved" and doesn't add a surcharge, you might still be hit with the EBT fee if you've already done 4 withdrawals that month. Check your EBT transaction history online or call the number on your card to see how many free withdrawals you have left this month.

•Wow I didn't even know about the 4 withdrawal limit thing. I definitely haven't used it 4 times yet this month tho, this was my first attempt. Thanks for explaining!

•I tried the outside one cause the bank was closed when I went. I'll try going inside tomorrow. And yeah I was only trying to take out $350 so shouldn't have been over any limit.

Quick update: I just checked the official California EBT website, and there's a system-wide notification about some ATMs experiencing technical issues this week. They're working on fixing it. In the meantime, definitely try the cash back option at stores. You can usually get up to $200 cash back at most places with a small purchase.

•THANK YOU!!! This explains everything. I wish they would've told me this when I called customer service. I'll try the cashback method tonight.
