Can I withdraw my CalWORKs Cash Aid from bank teller instead of ATM?

I've been having issues getting cash from my CalWORKs EBT card at ATMs. Last 3 times I tried, the machine either said 'transaction canceled' or 'temporarily unavailable' but still charged my account a fee! I need this money for rent due tomorrow. Can I just go inside a bank that accepts EBT and withdraw my Cash Aid directly from a teller? Or is ATM the only option? Has anyone done the teller route successfully? This is stressing me out because I need my full amount without more ATM fees eating into it.

Yes, you absolutely can withdraw your CalWORKs cash aid from a bank teller at certain banks! This is called an \

Thank u!! Do you know if I can go to any Bank of America or just specific ones? My closest one is about 20 min away by bus but if they're gonna let me do it I'll definitely go there tomorrow morning. I'm so tired of these ATM fees eating up my benefits.

I do this every month! ATMs kept giving me problems too. Bank of America is definitely your best bet since they manage the EBT cards for CalWORKs. You can withdraw your FULL amount with no fee at any BofA branch - I usually go on the 1st when my cash aid hits. Just make sure it's during their lobby hours and bring your ID. Also! If an ATM charged you but didn't give you the money, call the EBT customer service number on the back of your card to report it. They can investigate and credit the money back to your account including the fee.

That's really good to know about calling about the ATM fees that didn't work! I'm going to try that too because I lost like $6 in fees last month when the machine didn't give me any money. Does it take a long time to get that money back?

I was having the same problem with ATMs a few months ago, and it was SO frustrating trying to get through to someone at the EBT customer service line to get my fees refunded. I kept getting disconnected after waiting 45+ minutes. Finally, I tried using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a real person. They have this service where they wait on hold for you and call you back when a rep is on the line. Saved me so much time and stress. There's a demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwEBut yes, Bank of America tellers can definitely help with Cash Aid withdrawals! Just bring ID and your EBT card.

BE CAREFUL with bank teller withdrawls!!!! my sister did this and they only gave her PART of her cash aid and said the rest wasnt available yet even tho it showed on her account!!!! the bank people dont know how calworks works sometimes and will tell u wrong information. always check ur balance on the ebt website first before going!!!!!

That shouldn't happen if your funds are already deposited. It sounds like maybe your sister tried to withdraw before her cash aid was fully processed? Cash benefits are usually fully available at midnight on the payment date. You can always check your balance by calling the number on the back of your EBT card before going to the bank, just to make sure the full amount is there.

I've been on CalWORKs for 3 years now and always use the teller method! Just a tip - when you go to Bank of America, make sure to tell them you're specifically withdrawing from your

Thanks, that's a really good point about specifying CASH account. I didn't even think of that. I'll definitely say that specifically when I go. And I didn't know we get 4 free withdrawals - they never told me that at the county office!

Update to my earlier comment - I just remembered something important! If you go to the bank teller, you can literally withdraw your ENTIRE monthly grant in one transaction with no fee. With ATMs, there's usually a daily limit (often $500 or $1000) and you might need multiple withdrawals if your grant is larger than that. Also, avoid using non-Bank of America ATMs for Cash Aid withdrawals - those will almost always charge additional fees. Stick with BofA ATMs or tellers.

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice! I went to Bank of America this morning and was able to withdraw all my Cash Aid with no problems. The teller was actually really nice and didn't charge any fees. Made sure to specifically ask for withdrawal from my CASH account like someone suggested. This is definitely what I'll be doing from now on instead of dealing with ATM problems!

Awesome! Glad it worked out for you. It's definitely the way to go especially if you need your full amount at once.
