What does 'Benefit status change - Aging' mean on EBT? CalFresh benefits disappeared with $0.09 balance
I'm super confused about my daughter's CalFresh benefits this month. She normally gets her benefits loaded on the 2nd, and they always show as 'pending' in the provider app from around the 25th until they're available. This month they showed pending on 9/25 like usual, but today I checked and instead of the pending amount, it shows 'Benefit status change - Aging $0.09' and all her pending benefits are completely gone! Her regular monthly amount is $375 and we really depend on this for food. Has anyone seen this 'Aging' status before or know what it means? Is this some kind of account issue or did they discontinue her benefits without sending any notice? Really worried because we were counting on those benefits for grocery shopping this weekend.

same thing happened 2 me last yr. the aging thing means theres a small balance left over from before. probably means they stopped ur benefits for some reason. did u turn in the SAR7 form on time??

•Thanks for responding! I'm pretty sure we turned in the SAR7 on time, but now I'm worried. We moved two months ago and I did update the address online, but maybe they sent something that didn't get forwarded? Do they ever terminate benefits without sending a warning first?

The 'Aging' status typically means there's a remaining balance that's about to expire. When you see a very small amount like $0.09, it's usually leftover from previous benefits. However, the concerning part is that your pending benefits have disappeared. This usually happens for one of these reasons: 1. Missed SAR7 or recertification deadline 2. Income change that wasn't reported 3. Change in household composition not reported 4. Verification documents were requested but not received For CalFresh, they're required to send a Notice of Action before discontinuing benefits, but sometimes these notices get lost in the mail, especially if you've moved recently. I'd recommend calling your county office immediately to find out what happened and if there's still time to fix it.

•Oh no, this is really stressful. We did move in July but I updated our address in the BenefitsCal portal right away. I'm thinking maybe they sent something that got lost. The thing is, I thought we just did recertification back in April, so we should be good until next April. And we haven't had any income changes. I'll definitely call first thing tomorrow morning.

The $0.09 with 'Aging' status definitely means there's a tiny leftover amount, but that's not your main issue. The disappearance of pending benefits is the real concern. After helping my sister through a similar situation last month, here's what I learned: Even if you submitted everything correctly, sometimes their system has glitches. Try checking your BenefitsCal account for any notices or tasks you might have missed. Also look for your certification period end date - sometimes the recertification period isn't exactly 12 months depending on when you started. If you need to reach your county worker quickly (which I HIGHLY recommend), try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It helped me get through to a live person in about 10 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. Saved me so much stress when my sister's benefits suddenly disappeared.

•Thank you! I didn't know about that service. I've spent hours on hold before and sometimes get disconnected after waiting forever. I'll definitely check out Claimyr because we really need to get this figured out ASAP. I'll also login to BenefitsCal tonight to double check if there are any tasks or notices I missed.

are you SURE you submitted everything on time????? because the county NEVER sends proper notices before cutting you off!!!! i've been dealing with calfresh for 5 years and they've done this to me THREE TIMES where they claim they sent some letter requesting additional proof but i NEVER received anything!!!! you probably missed something they claim they asked for and now you have to start all over again. the system is DESIGNED to kick people off!!!!!

•While miscommunications do happen, the system isn't designed to terminate benefits without cause. Most counties in California are actually trying to increase enrollment. If benefits were discontinued, there's typically a specific reason that needs to be addressed. Once identified, many issues can be resolved with a simple phone call, especially if it's within the 90-day period after discontinuance.

It sounds like your daughter's benefits were discontinued, and the $0.09 is just a remaining balance from last month. This happens most commonly when there's a missed deadline or unreported change. Check if you're within what's called the "cure period" - typically 30 days after benefits stop where you can fix whatever caused the discontinuance without having to reapply completely. Here's what to do: 1. Log into BenefitsCal and check for any tasks or correspondence 2. Call your county office first thing in the morning (they're usually less busy early) 3. Have your daughter's case number and ID ready 4. If they say a document was missing, ask if you can submit it now to restore benefits 5. Request expedited processing if you have no food resources If you get this resolved quickly, they can often restore benefits without a gap. Keep us posted!

•Thank you so much for the detailed help! I just checked BenefitsCal and I can't believe it - there was a verification request from 3 weeks ago that I completely missed. They needed her current pay stubs because her hours increased at work. I feel so stupid for missing this. Do you think if I upload the documents tonight they could still process it or is it too late?
0 coins
Nia Jackson
It's definitely not too late! If you submit the verification documents now, there's a good chance they can restore benefits without much delay, especially since you're still within the 30-day cure period. After uploading the documents to BenefitsCal, I strongly recommend calling your county office to inform them that you've submitted the requested verification. Ask them to expedite the processing due to your urgent food needs. Make sure to explain that you missed the notice due to your recent move. In most cases, if the only issue was missing verification and your daughter still qualifies based on income, they can reinstate benefits fairly quickly. If her increased hours put her over the income limit, she may still qualify for a reduced benefit amount.

•I just uploaded all her pay stubs for the last two months and made a note explaining that we missed the notice. I'll definitely call first thing tomorrow morning to make sure they see everything. Her hours did increase but I don't think she's over the limit - she's only working about 28 hours a week at $18/hour. Hopefully we can get this fixed quickly. I really appreciate everyone's help!

This reminds me of what happened with my nephew last year. His calfresh got cut off because he didn't respond to some verification request too. But his was about school enrollment not income i think. Anyway it took like 3 weeks to fix but they did eventually give him back benefits for the time he missed. So even if it takes some time to fix you might get retro benefits too i think. Best of luck!

•Really? That gives me some hope. But I found a missed verification request in BenefitsCal, so I think that's definitely the issue. I've uploaded the documents now, just hoping they process them quickly!

Great job finding and addressing the issue! Since you've uploaded the documents, here's what typically happens next: 1. The county has 10 days to process verification documents once received 2. Since it's a case of discontinued benefits being restored, you might receive prorated benefits for October if they approve it mid-month 3. Make sure to save all your communication records in case there are any issues At $18/hour for 28 hours weekly, your daughter's monthly income would be approximately $2,016 before taxes. For a single-person household in 2025, the gross income limit for CalFresh is around $2,430, so she should still qualify. However, her benefit amount might be reduced slightly due to the increased income. Keep us updated on how it resolves!

•Thank you so much for breaking down the income calculations! That's really reassuring to know she should still qualify. I was worried the increased hours might have put her over the limit. I'll definitely keep all the documentation and follow up if I don't hear back within a week or so. This whole experience has taught me to check BenefitsCal more regularly for any notices. I really appreciate everyone's help and advice - this community is amazing!

Just wanted to follow up and see how things turned out for you! I've been in a similar situation before where I missed a verification notice and it's so stressful. Since you found the issue and uploaded the documents, you should be in good shape. One tip - if you don't hear back within a few days, you can also visit your local county office in person. Sometimes that gets things moving faster than phone calls. Also, once this gets resolved, you might want to set up text or email notifications in BenefitsCal if you haven't already. It helps catch these notices before they become problems. Hope your daughter's benefits get restored soon!

•Thanks for checking in! I'm new to this community but following this thread closely since I'm dealing with CalFresh myself. Your suggestion about setting up notifications is really smart - I just went into my BenefitsCal account and turned on email alerts after reading about Zara's situation. It's scary how easy it is to miss these important notices, especially when you're dealing with other life changes like moving. I hope everything works out quickly for her daughter's benefits!

I'm new to this community but wanted to share what happened when I faced a similar situation. The "Aging" status with a small balance like $0.09 usually means there's leftover money from previous months that's about to expire, but the real issue is your pending benefits disappearing. This typically happens when there's a missed deadline or required action. Since you already found the verification request and uploaded the documents, you're on the right track! One thing that helped me was calling the county office and asking to speak with a supervisor if the regular worker couldn't expedite the case. Also, if you qualify for expedited processing (which you might since you have urgent food needs), they're supposed to process it within 3 days. Keep checking your BenefitsCal account daily for updates, and don't hesitate to call if you don't see movement within a few business days. Sometimes a follow-up call reminds them to prioritize your case. Good luck!

•Welcome to the community! Your advice about asking for a supervisor is really helpful - I hadn't thought of that option. Since I uploaded the documents last night, I'm planning to call this morning and will definitely mention that we have urgent food needs to see if they can expedite it. The 3-day processing time for expedited cases is encouraging! I've been checking BenefitsCal obsessively since uploading everything. It's reassuring to hear from someone who went through something similar and got it resolved. Thanks for the practical tips!

I'm also new to this community but wanted to share some encouragement! I went through almost the exact same thing last year - missed a verification request due to mail issues after moving, saw the dreaded "aging" status, and panicked when my benefits disappeared. The good news is that once you've uploaded the documents like you did, most counties are pretty good about restoring benefits quickly, especially when it's just a missed verification and not an eligibility issue. One thing that really helped me was calling right when they opened (usually 8 AM) - you're more likely to get through without a long wait. When you call, have your case number ready and explain that you uploaded the verification last night. Ask specifically about expedited processing since you have immediate food needs. Also, don't worry about feeling stupid for missing the notice - it happens to SO many people, especially during moves. The system isn't great at making these notices stand out. Once this gets resolved, definitely set up those email/text alerts in BenefitsCal to catch future notices. You're handling this exactly right and I'm confident it'll work out!

•Thank you for sharing your experience and the encouragement! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through almost the exact same situation. I'm definitely planning to call right at 8 AM when they open - that's a great tip about avoiding the long wait times. I have my case number and all the details ready to go. The fact that you got yours resolved quickly after uploading verification documents gives me a lot of hope! I was beating myself up about missing that notice, but you're right that it's easy to miss during a move. I've already set up email alerts now so this doesn't happen again. Thanks for taking the time to share your story and advice - it really means a lot!

As someone who's new to this community but has dealt with CalFresh issues before, I wanted to add that you're doing everything right! The "Aging" status with that tiny balance is just a system quirk - the real issue was definitely the missed verification request you found. Since you uploaded the documents and are planning to call this morning, here's one more tip that helped me: when you call, mention that you're within the "cure period" and ask if they can process it as a "good cause" restoration since you missed the notice due to your recent move. Counties are usually understanding about mail issues after address changes. Also, if your daughter's case gets approved but with a reduced benefit amount due to her increased income, don't panic - even a smaller amount is better than nothing while you figure out your budget. You've got this handled and I'm rooting for a quick resolution!

•Welcome to the community! That's really helpful advice about mentioning the "cure period" and asking about "good cause" restoration - I hadn't heard those specific terms before but they sound like they could really help when I call this morning. The tip about address changes causing mail issues makes total sense too, since that's exactly what happened in my situation. You're absolutely right that even a reduced benefit amount would be so much better than nothing right now. I'm feeling much more confident about the call after reading everyone's advice and experiences. Thank you for the encouragement and for sharing those specific terms to use!

I'm new to this community but wanted to share some hope! I went through something very similar about 6 months ago - the exact same "Aging" status with a tiny balance and my pending benefits just vanished. I was absolutely panicked because I depend on CalFresh for groceries too. It turned out I had missed a simple verification request that got lost in my mail after I moved apartments. Just like you, I found it buried in my BenefitsCal account after everyone here told me to check for notices. Once I uploaded the documents, it took about 4 days to get restored and they even gave me the full month's benefits even though it was processed mid-month. The key thing that helped me was calling and explaining that I missed the notice due to my address change - they were actually really understanding about it. Since you already uploaded everything last night, you're in great shape! Make sure to mention "good cause" for missing the deadline due to your move when you call. You've got this handled and I'm confident it'll work out quickly. Keep us posted on how the call goes!

I'm new to this community but have been following your situation closely! As someone who also recently dealt with CalFresh issues after moving, I wanted to share that you're handling this perfectly. The fact that you found the missed verification request and uploaded the documents so quickly shows you're on top of things. One thing that really helped me when I called was having a backup plan ready - I asked the worker what to do if the documents weren't processed in time, and they told me about emergency food assistance programs in my county that could help bridge the gap if needed. Most counties have these resources available while you're waiting for benefits to be restored. Also, since your daughter's income increased but she should still qualify, you might want to ask about any other benefits she could be eligible for, like reduced-cost meals at work or local food banks that don't affect CalFresh eligibility. Sometimes workers know about additional resources that can help. You've got this! The hardest part (finding the problem and uploading the fix) is already done. Rooting for a quick resolution when you call this morning!

•Welcome to the community! That's such thoughtful advice about having a backup plan and asking about emergency food assistance. I hadn't thought about asking the worker about bridging resources while waiting for the benefits to be restored - that's really smart planning. The suggestion about looking into other benefits or food banks is great too, especially since this whole experience has made me realize we should probably have more of a safety net in place. It's incredible how much practical advice I've gotten from everyone here. I'm feeling so much more prepared for this call now with all these specific questions to ask and strategies to mention. Thank you for the encouragement and for thinking ahead to backup options!

I'm new to this community but wanted to jump in with some encouragement! Reading through your whole situation, it sounds like you've already done the hardest part by finding that missed verification request and uploading the documents. That "Aging" status with the tiny balance is just a system quirk - the real issue was definitely the missed notice. Since you're calling first thing this morning, here's one more tip that helped me in a similar situation: ask the worker to put a note in your case file about the address change causing the missed notice. This creates a paper trail in case there are any future issues. Also, if they can't give you an exact timeline on the phone, ask for the worker's direct number or extension so you don't have to start from scratch if you need to follow up. The income calculations others shared look good - your daughter should definitely still qualify. Even if the benefit amount is slightly reduced due to her increased hours, that's so much better than starting over with a new application. You caught this early enough that it should be a quick fix rather than a major ordeal. Keep us posted on how the call goes - I think you're going to get good news!

•Welcome to the community and thank you for the great advice! I really appreciate the tip about asking them to put a note in the case file about the address change - that's such a smart way to document what happened in case this ever comes up again. Getting the worker's direct extension is brilliant too since I've had to explain my situation from scratch so many times before with different people. I'm actually about to call right now (it's almost 8 AM here) and I feel so much more prepared thanks to everyone's advice. I have all my talking points ready: mention the cure period, good cause due to the move, ask about expedited processing, and now get that documentation in the file. I'm new to this community but wanted to offer some support! I just went through something very similar a few months ago - saw that same "Aging" status with a small leftover amount and my pending benefits completely disappeared. It's such a scary feeling when you're depending on those benefits for food. The good news is that you've already identified the problem (the missed verification request) and taken action by uploading the documents. That puts you way ahead of where I was when it happened to me! In my case, I had missed a verification request due to a change in my work schedule, and once I submitted the missing documents, they restored my benefits within about a week. When you call this morning, definitely mention that you missed the notice due to your recent move - most workers are understanding about mail forwarding issues. Also ask if they can flag your case for expedited processing since you have immediate food needs. Some counties can process these restoration cases in just a few days when there's urgent need. One thing that helped me was asking the worker to confirm they received my uploaded documents while I was on the phone with them. Sometimes there's a delay in the system showing newly uploaded files. You're handling this exactly right and I'm confident it'll get resolved quickly. Keep us posted on how the call goes - rooting for you!

I'm new to this community but wanted to share my experience since I went through something almost identical! The "Aging" status with a tiny balance like $0.09 happened to me too, and my pending benefits also vanished overnight. I was absolutely terrified because I rely on CalFresh for my groceries. Just like you, it turned out I had missed a verification request that got buried in my mail during a move. The county office was actually really understanding when I explained that I missed the notice due to address change issues. After I submitted the missing documents, they restored my benefits within 5 days and I even got the full monthly amount despite it being processed mid-month. Since you've already uploaded the verification documents, you're in excellent shape! When you call, definitely mention "good cause" for missing the deadline due to your move, and ask about expedited processing since you have urgent food needs. Also ask them to confirm they can see your uploaded documents while you're on the phone - sometimes there's a system delay. At your daughter's income level ($18/hour, 28 hours), she should definitely still qualify. Even if the benefit amount is reduced slightly, that's so much better than starting over. Hearing that you got your benefits restored in 5 days and received the full monthly amount even with mid-month processing gives me so much hope! I just got off the phone with my county office (literally just hung up) and I have some good news to share with everyone. The worker was incredibly helpful and understanding when I explained about missing the notice due to my move. She confirmed that she could see all the pay stubs I uploaded last night and said everything looks complete. She's putting in a request for expedited processing and said I should see my benefits restored within 3-5 business days! She also confirmed that at my daughter's income level, she'll still qualify for benefits, though the amount will be slightly reduced from $375 to about $290 per month. I'm just so relieved right now! Thank you to everyone in this community for all the advice, encouragement, and shared experiences. You all helped me go from complete panic to getting this resolved. That's such wonderful news! I'm so relieved for you and your daughter. It sounds like you handled everything perfectly - from finding the missed verification request to calling first thing this morning with all the right information and language. The worker being able to confirm your uploaded documents right away and putting in for expedited processing is exactly what you hoped for. Even though the benefit amount will be reduced from $375 to $290, that's still a significant help with groceries and so much better than having to start over with a completely new application. The 3-5 business day timeline for restoration is really reasonable too. Your experience is going to be so helpful for other community members who might face similar situations. You've shown that even when these scary "Aging" status issues pop up and benefits disappear, there's usually a fixable reason behind it. The key steps you took - checking BenefitsCal for missed notices, uploading documents immediately, and calling with specific language about "good cause" and expedited processing - are a perfect roadmap for others. Thanks for taking the time to update us with the good news! It's always encouraging to see these stories have positive endings.
