Missing CalFresh allotment for March despite active account - what went wrong?
So I'm really stressed out right now because I was supposed to get my CalFresh benefits loaded onto my EBT card yesterday (March 10th), but nothing came through. My account shows 'active' when I check online, and I haven't received any notices about discontinuation. My family is counting on these groceries and I don't know what happened! My issuance date has been the 10th for the past year with no problems. I filed my SAR7 three months ago and everything was fine. Has anyone else had their CalFresh benefits not show up even with an active account? Is this a system glitch or did I miss something? We're a household of 4 and usually get $875 monthly.

i had the same issue last month!!! the county worker told me it was becuz i hit my IRT (income reporting threshold) on my last paystub but i KNOW i didnt go over by that much. did you get a recent pay increase or anything? sometimes they dont even send the notice until AFTER they've already cut your benefits

•No pay increase - actually my hours got cut at work. That's why I'm so confused and panicking. Did you have to call them to get it fixed?

This sounds like it could be one of several issues: 1) Your Semi-Annual Report (SAR7) might not have been fully processed even if you submitted it three months ago. Sometimes one verification document gets separated from the rest. 2) There might have been a change in your household that triggered a review (even things like a child turning 18 or someone getting a different job). 3) The system could have flagged something for verification that you haven't responded to yet. Check your mail carefully for the past month for anything from the county. 4) Sometimes there are genuine system delays by 1-2 days, especially around holidays or system updates. You should call your county office ASAP. Ask specifically about the "reason for non-issuance" which is the technical term they'll understand.

•Thank you!! This is really helpful. My son did just turn 16 last month - could that have triggered something? He's not working though. I'll ask about the "reason for non-issuance" specifically.

•I actually DO check my mail everyday because I'm waiting for some important documents. Nothing from CalFresh except the regular reminder about my next SAR7 being due in April.

I've seen this happen frequently in my experience. Often it's because you've been selected for a random mid-period verification, which they're allowed to do despite the semi-annual reporting structure. Here's what you should do immediately: 1. Call your county office first thing tomorrow morning (they're likely closed now) 2. Have your case number ready (it's on any CalFresh correspondence) 3. Specifically ask if there were any "pending verifications" or "discontinued benefits" and why 4. If they reinstated your benefits, ask when they'll be available on your EBT card If they claim they sent you a notice, insist that you never received it and request they resend any required verification forms. Under CalFresh regulations, they must give you at least 10 days to provide any requested verification before discontinuing benefits.

•This! Random verification requests happen ALL THE TIME. Happened to me last year and I nearly lost my apartment cause I was counting on that food money so I could pay rent instead. The system is broken 🤬

Have you tried calling the EBT customer service number rather than the county office? Sometimes the problem is with the card itself or the EBT system, not your actual benefits. The regular EBT customer service can at least tell you if benefits were authorized but not properly loaded. That's different from benefits not being authorized at all. Worth checking both angles.

•That's a good idea! I'll try the EBT customer service number first. Maybe it is just a card issue. Fingers crossed it's something simple like that.

I had EXACTLY this problem in January and wasted TWO DAYS trying to reach someone at the county office. The phone system kept disconnecting me after being on hold for 2+ hours. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through. They have this service where they wait on hold for you and call you back when a real person answers. Saved me so much stress and I was able to get my benefits restored in 24 hours once I actually talked to someone. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 Turns out they had sent a verification request to my old address even though I'd updated my address 3 months earlier! The worker fixed it right away once I actually got through.

•is that service free? sounds kinda sketch tbh

•Not free but worth every penny when you're about to lose hundreds in food benefits because you can't get through. They just hold your place in line and connect you - you still talk directly to the county worker yourself.

One more thing to check - make sure you look at your BenefitsCal account online if you have access. Sometimes there are electronic notices or requests for verification that don't get mailed. The system has been moving more toward digital communication.

•I checked BenefitsCal before posting here. Nothing showing except my case is Active and my next SAR7 is due in April. No messages or alerts. It's so frustrating!

UPDATE: I FINALLY got through to my caseworker! Turns out there was a glitch in their system during their monthly issuance batch processing. Several households in my county were affected. They're doing an emergency issuance tonight and I should have my benefits by tomorrow morning. Thank you everyone for your advice and support during this stressful situation!

•Great news! This happens occasionally with batch processing. For future reference, request they note in your case file that you experienced this issue. If it happens again, it establishes a pattern they need to address more systemically.
