CalFresh benefits not showing as pending for April 2025 - payment delay?
I normally see my CalFresh benefits listed as 'pending' in my account about 5 days before they get deposited to my EBT card (I usually get them on the 10th). It's already April 7th and nothing is showing as pending or available in my BenefitsCal account. Did recertification 3 months ago and everything was approved through September 2025. No income changes to report. Anyone else experiencing delays this month? Called the customer service number but got the 'high call volume' message and gave up after 45 minutes on hold. Getting worried since I've got 3 kids and barely any food left.

Same here!!! Been checking all weekend and NOTHING is showing. I'm supposed to get my benifits tomorrow (the 8th) but no pending deposit. My kids are on spring break and I planned grocery shopping for tomorrow. This is so frustrating!!!!! 😡

•Glad I'm not the only one, though obviously not glad you're dealing with this too. Did you try calling your county office? I'm in Sacramento County and can't get through at all.

There was an announcement about system maintenance this weekend that was supposed to end Sunday night. My guess is they're running behind schedule getting everything back online. The benefits should still be issued on your regular date, but the pending notification might be delayed. If you don't receive benefits on your normal date, then there's a real problem to investigate.

•It was on the BenefitsCal homepage last week, but only if you were logged in. They should've sent texts or emails too, but their communication is inconsistent at best. For anyone panicking - this is almost certainly just a display issue in the system, not actual benefit delays.

Don't stress too much yet... This happened to me in January and benefits still came through on time. The online system sometimes lags but the actual benefit issuance is on a different system. As long as you're still eligible and haven't missed any paperwork deadlines, you should be fine.

•Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better. Just worried since I've never seen it NOT show as pending before. Guess I'll wait until the 10th before really panicking.

I'm experiencing the same issue and I tried calling the county office for the last two days but keep getting stuck in their automated system. It's so frustrating!! Finally I tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) which is this service that gets a real person from the county to call you back. Worked great and saved me hours of waiting. The worker told me it's a known system issue and benefits will still come through on the regular day for most people. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8

•Thank you!! I'll check this out if my benefits don't come through tomorrow. Good to know it's a system issue rather than something wrong with my specific case.

•is this service legit? never heard of it before

•Yes it's legit. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying to call for 2 days straight. It's basically a service that navigates the phone system and gets you a callback from the county. Saved me literal hours of waiting.

This happens EVERY TIME they do system updates. I swear the CalFresh system runs on a computer from 1995!!! Last time this happened my benefits were actually 2 days late, so don't count on what that one person said about them still coming on time. Might want to plan accordingly. The whole system needs an overhaul but they never actually fix the root issues, just put bandaids on everything.

•OMG I can't afford to wait extra days! My cupboards are literally empty. Why don't they warn people properly before doing these updates???

•Because they don't care about the actual impact on families. Been dealing with this system for 7 years and it's the same story every time. The workers are generally trying their best but the higher-ups who make these decisions have NO CLUE what it's like to be counting on that EBT deposit.

my cousin works for the county and she said theres like a big database upgrade happening and some peoples benefits might be a day late but not more than that. she said dont worry unless ur benefits dont come by the day after ur normal date

•That's really helpful inside info - thanks for sharing! I can handle one day late if needed.

Did you check your EBT card balance directly through the EBT website or app? Sometimes the BenefitsCal system shows nothing but the benefits are actually loaded on the card. Worth checking both places.

•Just checked the EBT app and nothing there either. But I'll keep checking both places. Thanks for the suggestion!

•Mine too! Finally showing as pending. What a stressful few days, but glad it was just a system glitch. Thanks everyone for the advice and support!

Just wanted to jump in here since I've been dealing with CalFresh for about 4 years now. This type of system delay happens more often than it should, unfortunately. What I've learned is to always check both the BenefitsCal portal AND the EBT app/website because sometimes they show different information. Also, if you're really worried about running out of food before benefits hit, some food banks don't require you to wait for your benefits to run out completely - they understand that system delays happen. The Salvation Army and local churches often have emergency food assistance too. It's frustrating that we have to deal with these technical issues when families are depending on these benefits, but at least it sounds like this was just a temporary glitch and not a bigger problem with people's cases.
