EBT Edge app keeps showing 'Invalid credentials' message - anyone else having login problems?

I've been trying to check my CalFresh balance using the EBT Edge app all weekend, but it keeps saying 'Invalid credentials' when I try to log in. I KNOW I'm using the right username and password - I even reset my password twice! Still getting the same error message. My benefits are supposed to be loaded tomorrow and I need to plan my grocery shopping. Is the app broken? Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me? I tried calling the number on the back of my EBT card but gave up after waiting 45 minutes. Getting really frustrated!

mine doing the same thing! been happening since friday 4 me. tried deleting and reinstalling but didnt help. gotta call the store 2 check my balance b4 shopping smh

Ugh, so frustrating! At least I know it's not just me. Did you try logging in through the website instead of the app? I'm going to try that next.

This has been a known issue with the EBT Edge app specifically after their recent update in early 2025. Many California CalFresh recipients are experiencing the same problem. The technical team is aware of it, but there are some workarounds in the meantime: 1. Try logging in through their website (www.ebtedge.com) instead of the app 2. Clear your app cache and data before logging in again 3. Make sure your phone's date and time are set to automatic 4. If you have a punctuation mark or special character in your password, that might be causing issues with the new update If none of these work, you can always call the EBT customer service line (866-328-9677) to check your balance, though I know wait times can be frustrating.

This happened to me too! The website worked for me when the app didn't. Thanks for the explanation about the update - been driving me crazy trying to figure out what was wrong with my account!

THE WHOLE EBT SYSTEM IS GARBAGE!! I've had nothing but problems since they "upgraded" everything. First they send my replacement card to the wrong address, then the PIN doesn't work, now this app nonsense. And we're supposed to be grateful for the measly $475 they give a single person?? Meanwhile I've wasted HOURS trying to get through to a real person on their phone lines. I'm sick of it!!!

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to a CalFresh representative faster? I was having the same frustrations with endless hold times, but Claimyr got me connected to a real person in under 10 minutes. They basically wait on hold for you and call you back when an actual person is on the line. Totally worth checking out at claimyr.com - they even have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8

I work for a community organization that helps people with CalFresh applications, and we've been getting lots of calls about this exact issue. The problem started after their system maintenance on April 15th. The company that manages the EBT Edge platform has confirmed they're having technical difficulties with the app authentication system. In addition to the suggestions already mentioned, one thing that's been working for our clients is logging in with your card number instead of username if that option is available to you. Also, if you're using face recognition or fingerprint login, try disabling that and entering your credentials manually. The issue is supposed to be resolved by April 30th according to the last update we received. If you absolutely need to check your balance and can't get through on the phone, remember you can also check your balance by looking at your last receipt from any purchase or by asking the cashier at most grocery stores to do a balance inquiry.

Thank you SO much for this detailed information! I tried the website and it worked! And I didn't know about checking the balance at a grocery store - that's super helpful. Really appreciate the inside info on when it might be fixed too.

have u tried deleting ur browser history?? my daughter told me to do that when mine wasnt working and it fixed it right away. also make sure ur not using capital letters in ur username even if u did when u set it up. the system is weird that way

I'll try the browser history thing! And that's interesting about the capital letters - I do use them in my username so maybe that's part of the problem. Thanks for the tips!

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for your help! I was able to log in through the website just fine, so it definitely seems to be an app-specific issue. I also went to the grocery store and they were able to check my balance for me at the register (didn't know that was possible!). Benefits loaded on time, thank goodness. For anyone else having this problem, try the website instead of the app for now.

thx for updating us! glad u got it working. gonna try the website 2

Just wanted to mention that if you're having trouble with your CalFresh case for any reason (not just the EBT app issues), it's worth checking if your county office has updated their contact information recently. My county changed their direct lines in March and I had been calling the old number for weeks wondering why no one ever answered! You can find updated contact info on the BenefitsCal website under your county listings.

They NEVER answer no matter what number you call! I've tried all of them. They just don't want to deal with us.

is anyone else having problems with the balance showing wrong after purchases? my app finally started working again yesterday but now it's showing i have $43 more than i should based on what i spent yesterday 🤔 not that i'm complaining lol but worried they'll say i owe them later

That's concerning - sometimes there's a delay in transactions posting to your EBT account, especially with certain retailers. I'd recommend keeping your receipts and tracking your spending manually until the system stabilizes. If the balance is still incorrect after 48 hours, you should definitely contact customer service as there might be a more significant issue with your account.

@Freya Andersen I d'be really careful about spending that extra $43 if I were you! The EBT system has been glitchy lately and they WILL come after you for any overpayments, even if it was their mistake. I ve'heard horror stories of people getting their benefits suspended because of system errors like this. Definitely keep track of your actual spending and maybe screenshot your balance right now in case you need proof later.

Just wanted to share another workaround that worked for me - if you have an Android phone, try turning off "Auto-fill passwords" in your browser settings before logging into the EBT Edge website. For some reason the auto-fill was causing authentication issues even when I manually typed my credentials. Also, make sure you're not using any VPN or proxy services as those can sometimes interfere with the login process. Hope this helps someone else who's still struggling with access!

Thanks for sharing that Android tip! I never would have thought about the auto-fill causing problems. I'm still having issues on my iPhone but I'll try turning off the auto-fill feature there too. The VPN thing is interesting - I do use one sometimes for privacy but didn't realize it could mess with the EBT login. Really appreciate all the different solutions people are posting here, it's so much more helpful than trying to get through to customer service!

I've been dealing with the same issue since last week! What finally worked for me was logging out of the app completely, then going into my phone settings and clearing the app's cache AND data (not just cache). After that I had to set up my login info again from scratch, but it's been working fine since then. Also noticed that if you have any special characters in your password like @ or # it seems to cause problems with the new update. Had to change mine to just letters and numbers. Really hope they fix this soon because having to jump through all these hoops just to check our balance is ridiculous!

Thanks for sharing that detailed solution! I'm going to try clearing both cache AND data - I think I only cleared the cache before. The special characters thing is really interesting too, that might explain why some people are having more trouble than others. It's frustrating that we have to basically troubleshoot their broken system ourselves, but I really appreciate everyone sharing what's worked for them. This thread has been way more helpful than any official support!

I'm having the exact same problem! Been trying to log in since Sunday and keep getting that "Invalid credentials" error even though I know my info is correct. Really glad to see I'm not the only one - was starting to think my account got hacked or something. The timing is terrible since I need to grocery shop this week. I'm going to try the website login that others mentioned, and definitely going to ask the store to check my balance next time I'm there. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions - this is way more helpful than trying to get through to customer service!

Welcome to the club! 😅 It's definitely frustrating but you're absolutely not alone - seems like tons of us are dealing with this since their recent update. The website login has been a lifesaver for most people here, so definitely try that first. And yeah, asking the store to check your balance is super convenient once you know about it! I had no idea that was even possible before this whole mess started. Hope you get it sorted out quickly!

I've been dealing with this same issue since Thursday! It's so relieving to find this thread and know it's not just me going crazy. I tried everything - resetting my password multiple times, reinstalling the app, even factory resetting my phone thinking it was a device issue. Nothing worked until I tried the website login that @Malik Jenkins mentioned. Worked perfectly on the first try! For anyone still struggling, I also found that using your 16-digit EBT card number as the username instead of the username you created sometimes works better with the current system glitch. And definitely try logging in during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening) - seems like the server load might be affecting the authentication process too. Thanks to everyone who shared their workarounds! This community is so much more helpful than the official customer service. Really hope they get this fixed soon because we shouldn't have to be tech support experts just to check our benefit balance.

This is exactly what I needed to hear! I've been pulling my hair out since Friday thinking I was doing something wrong. Just tried logging in with my card number instead of username and it worked immediately! I can't believe something so simple fixed it after days of frustration. Really appreciate you mentioning the off-peak hours tip too - that makes total sense with all the server issues they're having. It's crazy that we have to figure out these workarounds ourselves, but I'm just grateful this community exists to help each other out. Definitely bookmarking this thread in case the problem comes back!

I'm having the exact same problem! Started getting the "Invalid credentials" error on Saturday and it's been driving me nuts. I was so worried that my account got compromised or something. Really relieved to see this thread and know it's a widespread issue with their recent update. Just tried logging in through the website like several people mentioned and it worked perfectly! Also didn't know that grocery stores could check your balance for you - that's such a useful backup option. Thanks everyone for sharing all these workarounds, this has been way more helpful than sitting on hold for hours trying to reach customer service. Hopefully they get this app issue sorted out soon, but at least we have alternatives in the meantime!

So glad you got it working with the website! It's amazing how many of us have been dealing with this same frustrating issue. I'm definitely going to remember that grocery store balance check trick too - seems like such a simple backup that most of us never knew about. This whole situation has been a nightmare, but at least we're all helping each other figure out solutions while we wait for them to fix their broken app. Welcome to the club of EBT app refugees! 😅

Same issue here! Been getting that "Invalid credentials" error since Wednesday and I was starting to panic thinking someone hacked my account. So relieved to find this thread - you all are lifesavers! Just tried the website login and it worked immediately. I also had no idea grocery stores could check your balance, that's such a game-changer for when this happens again. Really frustrating that we have to become tech detectives just to access our own benefits, but this community support makes all the difference. Bookmarking this thread for sure! Thanks everyone for sharing your solutions.

Hope they get this sorted out soon, but at least we've got each other's backs while we wait for them to fix their broken system.

I've been having this exact same problem since Sunday! The "Invalid credentials" error has been driving me absolutely crazy, especially since I need to check my balance before going grocery shopping this week. I was getting so frustrated thinking it was just me or that my account had some kind of security issue. Just tried the website login that everyone's been recommending and it worked perfectly on the first try! Can't believe I didn't think to try that sooner. Also had no idea that grocery stores could do balance inquiries - that's such a helpful backup option that I wish I'd known about ages ago. This thread has been more helpful than any official customer service could have been. It's ridiculous that we have to crowdsource solutions for their broken app, but I'm so grateful for this community. Really hoping they get this fixed soon, but at least now I know what to do if it happens again. Thanks everyone for sharing your workarounds!

So glad you found this thread and got the website login working! It's been such a relief for all of us dealing with this frustrating issue. I love how this community has basically become our own unofficial tech support team while the official EBT system is having problems. The grocery store balance check has been a total game-changer for me too - I actually prefer it now sometimes because it's faster than opening the app! Hopefully they get their act together soon, but until then we've got each other's backs. Welcome to the EBT troubleshooting squad! 😊

I'm dealing with this exact same issue! Started getting the "Invalid credentials" error on Friday and I was convinced I was losing my mind since I've been using the same login for months. So grateful to find this thread - was starting to worry my account got compromised or something. Just tried the website login that everyone's been mentioning and it worked immediately! Also going to try that trick about using the card number instead of username next time. I had absolutely no clue that grocery stores could check your balance - that's such an amazing backup option that I wish someone had told me about years ago! This community is seriously amazing. You all have provided more helpful solutions in one thread than I could get from hours of trying to reach customer service. It's frustrating that we have to figure out workarounds for their broken system, but at least we're helping each other through it. Really hoping they get this app fixed soon!

Welcome to the EBT app crisis support group! 😅 It's such a relief when you realize you're not going crazy and it really is their system that's broken. The website login has been a total lifesaver for so many of us here. And yes, the grocery store balance check is one of those "why didn't anyone tell me this before?" moments! I've been using my EBT card for years and just learned about it from this thread. It's honestly become my go-to method now even when the app is working because it's usually faster. I've been having this same problem since last Tuesday! The "Invalid credentials" error has been so frustrating, especially when I know my login info is correct. I was starting to think there was something wrong with my account specifically. Just tried the website login after reading through all these comments and it worked perfectly! I'm also going to try that tip about using the card number instead of username for future reference. Had no idea grocery stores could do balance checks either - that's such a useful thing to know! This thread has been incredibly helpful - way more than trying to get through to their customer service line. It's annoying that we have to troubleshoot their broken app ourselves, but I'm so grateful for this community sharing solutions. Definitely bookmarking this for future reference in case the problem happens again. Thanks everyone for all the helpful workarounds!

I've been dealing with this exact same issue since last weekend! The "Invalid credentials" error was making me think I was going crazy since I've been using the same login for over a year. Just tried the website login that everyone's recommending and it worked perfectly - such a relief! I also want to add another tip that worked for me: if you're using the mobile browser, try switching to "desktop mode" before logging into the EBT Edge website. For some reason that seemed to help with the authentication process. And like others mentioned, make sure your phone's date/time settings are on automatic - that was actually causing issues for my friend. This community thread has been way more helpful than spending hours on hold with customer service! It's frustrating that we have to crowdsource solutions for their broken app, but I'm so grateful everyone is sharing what's working. Definitely saving this thread for future reference. Thanks to everyone for all the helpful workarounds - you've saved my grocery shopping week!

This thread really has become the unofficial EBT troubleshooting headquarters! It's amazing how much we've all learned just from sharing our experiences. Thanks for adding another solution to our growing list of workarounds - you might have just saved someone else's grocery shopping week too!
