CalFresh emergency allotment delayed? Getting conflicting info from county workers
Has anyone's extra CalFresh allotment ever come late? I was supposed to get mine on 10/16 but it's still not there 4 days later. I called the county and somehow got two different workers telling me completely different things - one said there was a system delay and I'd get it by the 23rd, the other said there's no record of an extra allotment for my case at all this month! I've gotten the supplemental amount consistently for the last 3 months so I'm really confused and starting to worry. My regular benefits barely cover half the month and I was counting on that extra amount. Anyone else experiencing delays with their October emergency allotment or dealt with this before?

Same thing happened to me!!! My emergency allotment didn't come on the 16th either. I called and the worker said there was some kind of 'processing delay' but couldn't tell me when it would be fixed. Super frustrating because I planned my grocery shopping around it. Did your worker say if it's affecting everyone or just certain cases?

•The first worker said it was a county-wide issue affecting 'batches of cases' whatever that means. The second one acted like I was talking about something that didn't exist! Did yours come through yet? I'm checking my balance obsessively.

Emergency allotments for CalFresh in 2025 are scheduled on the 16th of each month, but occasionally there can be delays in processing. This usually resolves within 3-5 business days. However, it's concerning that you got conflicting information from workers. Here's what you should do: 1. Call again and ask specifically for a supervisor 2. Request they check your case notes for any issues with your emergency allotment eligibility 3. Ask for a case number or reference number for this inquiry Sometimes individual workers don't have complete information about system-wide delays. The supervisor should be able to see if this is affecting multiple households.

I work at a community resource center, and we've had several clients report delayed emergency allotments this month. From what I understand, there was a system update that affected the distribution schedule for some counties. If your first regular CalFresh benefit came through normally, you should still receive the emergency supplement, just delayed. One thing to be aware of: make sure you've submitted your SAR7 if it was due recently. Missing that deadline can affect both regular and emergency benefits.

•Thank you! Yes, my regular benefits came through on time at the beginning of the month. I did submit my SAR7 back in August and got my regular benefits for September and October, so I don't think that's the issue. It's reassuring to hear this is affecting other people too and not just me. I'll wait a few more days before panicking.

The CalFresh system is soooo broken right now. I had to call 14 TIMES last week just to talk to someone about my case. When I finally got through, they told me there was a note on my account about delayed emergency allotments but wouldn't tell me why or when it would be fixed. Then they transferred me and I got disconnected!!!! I seriously wanted to scream. Has anyone found a way to actually REACH these people without spending your whole day on hold?

•I've been using this service called Claimyr that actually calls CalFresh for you and holds your place in line, then calls you back when a real person is on the line. Saved me like 2 hours of hold time last week when I was dealing with this same issue. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. Worth it for me because I can't sit on hold while at work.

Don't stress too much yet. The emergency allotments sometimes get delayed by 5-7 business days. Mine was late twice this year already and showed up eventually. The most important thing is to document everything - who you talked to, date/time, what they said. One supervisor finally explained to me that the emergency allotments go through a separate approval process from regular benefits, so sometimes they get held up if there's a backlog or system issue. If it doesn't show up by the 25th, then I'd start escalating with the county office.

•You don't have to do anything special - if you're eligible for CalFresh at all, you should automatically get the emergency allotment as long as the program is still active. It's typically around 60-70% of your regular benefit amount, but it varies by household size.

UPDATE: My emergency allotment just posted today (the 21st)! It was 5 days late but finally showed up. For anyone else waiting, hang in there - looks like there really was just a delay.

Glad to hear your benefits came through! For future reference, if delays happen again, you can request an emergency replacement benefit if you're in a crisis situation. You'd need to submit a form stating you have less than 3 days of food available. The county is required to process these requests within 3 business days. Also, everyone should be aware that based on current legislation, emergency allotments are scheduled to end in June 2025, unless Congress extends them again. Start planning ahead for that possibility.

•I had no idea about the emergency replacement option! And thanks for the heads up about June 2025. That's going to hit a lot of families hard if they don't extend it. My family relies on that extra amount to make it through the month.
