The main Washington ESD customer service number is 800-318-6022. But fair warning - you're going to be on hold forever. I've been trying to get through for days about my adjudication issue.

•thanks! how long were you on hold when you finally got through?

•That's the thing - I still haven't gotten through to anyone yet. Keep getting disconnected after 2+ hours on hold.

There's also 833-572-8400 for the claimant line. Different number but same result - you'll be waiting all day. The system is completely overwhelmed right now.

•I actually had luck with that number last week around 7am. Got through in about 45 minutes which felt like a miracle.

•7am?? wow that's early but if it works...

Honestly, I gave up trying to call after wasting entire days on hold. Found this service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to a Washington ESD agent in under 20 minutes. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Site is claimyr.com if you want to check it out.

•Never heard of that before. Does it actually work or is it some kind of scam?

•It's legit - they basically call the Washington ESD lines for you and conference you in when they get an agent. Saved me hours of my life honestly.

•Might have to try this if I can't get through today. Getting desperate about my claim status.

For reference, here are the main Washington ESD phone numbers: - General UI line: 800-318-6022 - Claimant line: 833-572-8400 - Employer line: 855-829-9243 - Fraud hotline: 800-246-9763 Best times to call are early morning (7-8am) or late afternoon after 4pm when call volume is typically lower.

•I've tried calling at those times and it's still crazy busy. The unemployment system is just broken right now.

Pro tip: if you're calling about a specific issue like adjudication or overpayment, have your Social Security number and claim confirmation number ready. They'll ask for it right away and it speeds things up.

Andre Dupont
•good to know, i'll write those down before calling

•Also have your employer information handy if your claim is being adjudicated. They usually need those details too.

I've been calling Washington ESD for 3 weeks straight trying to get my claim fixed. The hold times are absolutely insane - 3-4 hours minimum and then they just hang up on you half the time. This system is completely broken.

•Same experience here. Spent my entire day off last week on hold just to get disconnected. So frustrating when you need answers about your benefits.

•This is exactly why I ended up using Claimyr. Couldn't waste any more time sitting on hold all day.

•Washington ESD has been dealing with extremely high call volumes since the pandemic. They've added staff but demand still exceeds capacity unfortunately.

•well they need to add more staff then because this is ridiculous

Update: tried calling the 800 number this morning at 7:30am and actually got through in about an hour! Agent was really helpful with my adjudication question. Early morning definitely seems to be the way to go.

Andre Dupont
•awesome! what did you find out about your adjudication?

QuantumQuasar
•They said it should be resolved within another week or two. At least now I know it's actually being worked on and not just sitting there.

For anyone still struggling to get through, I tried that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it actually worked. Got connected to a Washington ESD agent in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying to call directly for days. Worth checking out if you're desperate like I was.

•ok you've convinced me to try it, thanks for the follow up

•Did they charge you a lot for it?

Fatima Al-Suwaidi
•They don't really focus on the cost aspect - more about the time savings. Check their site for details.

Another tip: if you get through to someone who can't help with your specific issue, ask them to transfer you to the right department instead of hanging up and calling back. Saves you from starting over in the queue.

•Good advice. Sometimes the first person you talk to can't access all the systems but they can get you to someone who can.

Andre Dupont
•will definitely remember that if i get through

been calling for my overpayment issue for 2 months now... this is getting insane. might have to try some of these other options people are mentioning

•For overpayment issues specifically, you might also want to consider filing an appeal if you disagree with the determination. That's form OAH-1005 if you need it.

•thanks, i'll look into that too

The Washington ESD phone system is basically designed to make you give up. I swear they do it on purpose to reduce the number of people they have to help.

Giovanni Mancini
•Feels that way sometimes! The automated system hangs up on you if you don't have the right information ready immediately.

Jamal Wilson
•I don't think it's intentional, just severely under-resourced for the volume of calls they get daily.

I actually got through last week by calling the employer line by mistake and they transferred me to the right department. Sometimes the wrong number works better lol

Andre Dupont
•haha that's actually pretty clever, might try that too

•Just be polite if you call the wrong line - those agents deal with confused callers all day.

•You're definitely not alone. Pretty much everyone I know who's dealt with Washington ESD has the same horror stories.

•yeah seems like a universal problem unfortunately

One more tip - if you do get through, write down the agent's name and reference number if they give you one. Makes follow-up calls easier if you need to call back about the same issue.

•Great point. Also ask for a case number if they're opening any kind of investigation or review.

has anyone tried using the online contact form instead of calling? wondering if thats any better

•I submitted a form 3 weeks ago and never heard back. Phone seems to be the only way to actually reach someone unfortunately.

•Same experience - online forms seem to go into a black hole. Calling is your best bet even with the long waits.

The fact that we need third-party services like Claimyr just to reach our own state unemployment office is pretty sad when you think about it

Fatima Al-Suwaidi
•It is kind of ridiculous, but I'm just glad there are options that actually work when you need help.

•Agreed - the system shouldn't be this broken but at least there are workarounds available.

Final thought - if none of the regular calling methods work out, definitely consider the Claimyr service. I was skeptical at first but it really does work for getting through to Washington ESD when you're stuck.
