Will ESD reject my weekly claim if I report part-time hours a day late?
I'm in the middle of claiming partial unemployment while working part-time at a grocery store. I'm supposed to file my weekly claim tomorrow (Sunday) but I totally forgot to ask my manager for my exact hours before leaving work today. The store is closed tomorrow so I can't get the precise hours until Monday, but I know it was around 18-20 hours this week. Will ESD reject my claim if I wait until Monday to file? Or should I file tomorrow with my best estimate of hours and then try to correct it later? I really don't want to mess anything up since this is my first time dealing with partial unemployment while working. Thanks for any advice!

You have until Saturday at 11:59pm the following week to file your weekly claim, so you're totally fine waiting until Monday. ESD gives you a good window to submit! Just make sure you don't wait beyond next Saturday or you'll have to request to backdate the claim, which can be a headache.

•Oh really?? I thought I HAD to file on Sunday! That's such a relief, thank you so much. I was stressing all evening about this.

CAREFUL! While technically you CAN wait, I would still try to file as close to Sunday as possible!!! The ESD system is SO glitchy and if you wait too long sometimes it flags your account for no reason. I waited until Thursday once and my payment was delayed by TWO WEEKS because they put me in "adjudication" for no reason at all!!!

•Oh no, that sounds awful! I definitely need my payments on time. Maybe I should estimate after all? I'm just worried about getting in trouble for reporting incorrect hours.

While you do have until Saturday at 11:59pm the following week to submit your claim, filing as early as possible is generally best practice. Filing later in the week can occasionally delay payment processing, though it's not guaranteed to happen. Regarding your hours: if you're confident in your estimate of 18-20 hours, you could file with your best estimate and then contact ESD to correct it if needed. Small corrections are routine. However, if you're uncertain and can get the exact hours on Monday, waiting one day rarely causes issues with payment timing. Important: Make sure your earnings estimate is as accurate as possible - underreporting can lead to overpayment notices later, while overreporting might temporarily reduce your benefit amount.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I think I'll wait until Monday to be 100% accurate. My hours do fluctuate each week, so being off by even a couple could make a difference in my benefit calculation.

this reminds me when i started partial unemployment last year and was so confused about everything lol. i called esd like 5 times with questions and never got through. ended up just guessing my hours and thankfully it worked out but was so stressful

•Getting through to ESD on the phone was literally impossible for me too when I had questions about reporting part-time work. After days of trying, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an ESD agent in under 25 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Totally worth it for getting those reporting questions answered - especially for partial unemployment where the rules can be confusing. Saved me from potentially making a mistake on my claim.

•I work at a grocery store with an electronic time clock system, but we don't have online access to check our hours. Have to ask a manager to print the report, which is annoying.

Quick tip for the future - take a photo of your timecard or write down your hours at the end of each shift. Makes weekly claims so much easier when you have part-time work. I learned this the hard way!
