Weekly claim confusion: How to correctly report overnight weekend hours when filing early Sunday?

I'm working overnight weekend shifts (9pm-9am Saturday and Sunday) and I'm confused about how to report my hours for my weekly claim. If I file my claim early Sunday morning, do I only report 12 hours since I haven't completed my Sunday shift yet? Or do I need to include the anticipated Sunday hours too? Last week I worked my Sunday overnight into Monday morning and reported the full 24 hours, but now I'm second-guessing if that was correct. Anyone know the exact ESD rule about this? I don't want to mess up my claim and get hit with an overpayment notice later.

You should only report hours you've ACTUALLY worked by the time you file your claim. So if you file early Sunday morning and have only worked 12 hours so far, that's all you report. Then next week you'll report the Sunday hours that carried into that week. ESD wants the actual hours worked during that specific claim week.

no no no... u report based on when u START the shift, not when u finish it!! i work night shift too & my claim specialist told me if the shift starts saturday, u count ALL those hours for that week even if they go into sunday morning

I dealt with this EXACT issue last year!!! The ESD handbook says you report hours "when worked" not "when scheduled." So technically, you need to split your hours at midnight each night. If you work 9pm-midnight Sat (3 hrs) and then midnight-9am Sun (9 hrs), that's how you should report it. It's super annoying but that's their rule. And yes, if you file Sunday morning, you only report what you've worked UP TO THAT POINT. Don't include future hours even if they're scheduled.
