Why did my Washington ESD unemployment benefits suddenly stop coming?
My unemployment payments just stopped showing up in my account this week and I have no idea why. I've been filing my weekly claims like normal and my claim status still shows active. I haven't received any notices from Washington ESD about issues with my claim. Last payment was two weeks ago and now nothing. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm really worried because I need these benefits to pay rent.

Check your online account for any alerts or messages. Sometimes Washington ESD puts a hold on claims for verification purposes and you might not get a letter right away. Also check if there are any pending issues that need to be resolved.

•I checked and there's nothing showing up as needing attention. My account just shows the usual weekly claim stuff.

•Same thing happened to me last month. Turned out they needed to verify my identity even though I'd been collecting for weeks already.

This could be several things - adjudication for a new issue, eligibility review, or a system glitch. Did you report any work or changes in your situation recently? Sometimes even small amounts of work can trigger reviews.

•I did report some part-time work from three weeks ago but it was under the earnings limit. Could that be causing problems?

Jade O'Malley
•Possibly. Washington ESD sometimes reviews work reports even when they're under the limit to make sure everything adds up correctly.

You need to call them but good luck getting through. I've been trying for days about my own claim issues. The phone system is completely overwhelmed.

•I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD agents. They handle the calling and waiting for you. Check out claimyr.com - there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•That sounds too good to be true. How much does it cost?

•It's worth it when you're dealing with stopped payments. They focus on getting you connected rather than you spending hours on hold.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! I've had my benefits stopped THREE times for no reason. They just randomly decide to review claims and cut people off without warning. It's ridiculous.

•I feel your frustration but there are usually reasons, even if they don't communicate them well upfront.

•Well they need to do a better job of explaining what's happening instead of just cutting people off!

Check if you've reached your maximum benefit amount for the year. Washington ESD has limits on how much you can collect and when you hit that limit, payments stop automatically.

•How do I check that? I don't think I'm close to the limit but I'm not sure where to look.

•Login to your account and look for your benefit information or payment history. It should show your maximum benefit amount and how much you've used.

Did you miss filing a weekly claim? Even if you think you filed, sometimes the system doesn't register it properly and you have to refile.

•I've been filing every week on the same day. The system shows my claims as submitted.

•Double check the dates. I once thought I was filing correctly but realized I was a day late one week and it messed everything up.

Another possibility is that your claim year expired. UI claims are only valid for 52 weeks from when you first filed. If it's been a year, you might need to file a new claim entirely.

•I only started collecting in June so that shouldn't be the issue yet.

•June to now is getting close to the limit though. Worth checking your claim start date.

this happened to my cousin and it was because she didn't do her job search requirements properly. they're really strict about that stuff now

•Good point. Washington ESD has specific job search requirements and if you don't meet them exactly, they can stop your benefits.

•I've been doing my job searches and logging them. Could there be an issue with how I'm documenting them?

Have you checked if there's a hearing scheduled? Sometimes they schedule hearings and if you miss it, they automatically stop your benefits until you reschedule.

Lucas Bey
•I haven't received any hearing notices. Where would I see that information?

•Check your online account under correspondence or notices. They should send it by mail too but sometimes the online notice comes first.

Could be identity verification. They've been cracking down on fraud and randomly selecting accounts for additional verification even if you've been collecting for months.

Lucas Bey
•What kind of verification do they usually want?
0 coins
Max Knight
•Usually documents to prove your identity and work history. They'll send you a list of what they need if that's the issue.

I had the same problem and it was because I reported my work hours wrong one week. Even though I corrected it the next week, they still put my claim under review.

Lucas Bey
•How long did the review take?

Emma Swift
•About three weeks. They eventually paid me for all the weeks I missed but it was stressful waiting.

Check if you're still in an active claim status. Sometimes claims get closed without notice and you have to reopen them.

Lucas Bey
•My account still shows active but maybe I should call to double check.

•Definitely call. I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it saved me hours of trying to get through. They knew exactly how to reach the right department for claim status issues.

Are you on regular UI or standby? The rules are different and standby can be stopped for different reasons than regular unemployment.

Lucas Bey
•I'm on regular UI, not standby. Lost my job due to layoffs.
0 coins
LordCommander
•OK so that rules out standby-specific issues. Probably something with your regular claim then.

This is why I hate dealing with Washington ESD. They can just cut you off without warning and then you have to figure out what went wrong. The system is terrible.

•It's frustrating but there are usually reasons. The communication could definitely be better though.

Lucy Lam
•Yeah the communication is the worst part. They should at least tell you why they stopped your payments.

Did you move recently? Address changes can sometimes cause issues with benefit payments, especially if mail is getting lost.
0 coins
Lucas Bey
•No, same address the whole time. All my mail has been coming normally.

Zoe Wang
•OK, so probably not a mail/address issue then.

Whatever the reason is, you need to get it resolved quickly. Benefits don't get paid retroactively for gaps caused by delays in resolving issues.

Jade O'Malley
•That's not entirely accurate. If the stop was due to Washington ESD error or system issues, they often do pay retroactively. But it's still better to resolve quickly.

Lucas Bey
•Good to know. I'm definitely going to try calling first thing tomorrow morning.

Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while this is being resolved. Don't stop filing just because you're not getting paid.

Lucas Bey
•Thanks for the reminder. I was wondering about that.

Steven Adams
•Yes, definitely keep filing. If you stop filing weekly claims, you can lose benefits even after the issue gets resolved.

I'm going through something similar and used Claimyr to get through to an agent. They were able to tell me exactly what was causing my payment delay. Much better than trying to guess from the online account.

Lucas Bey
•How quickly were they able to get you connected?

•Way faster than I could have done myself. They handled all the waiting and transferred me when they got through.

Document everything - when your payments stopped, what your account shows, any messages you've received. You'll need this information when you talk to Washington ESD.

•Good advice. I'll screenshot everything before I call.

Victoria Stark
•Also write down the dates of your last few weekly claims and when you filed them. They often ask about that.

Hope you get this resolved quickly. The stress of having benefits stop unexpectedly is awful, especially when you're depending on them for basic expenses.

•Thanks, I really appreciate all the advice from everyone. At least now I have some ideas of what to ask about when I call.
