Washington ESD payment didn't come this week - why didn't i get my unemployment payment
I've been getting my unemployment payments every week for the past 2 months and this week nothing showed up. I filed my weekly claim on Sunday like always and it says submitted but no payment. My account doesn't show any issues or alerts. Did anyone else not get their Washington ESD payment this week? I'm really worried something went wrong with my claim.

•How did you find out about the verification issue? I don't see anything on my account.

•had to call them, took forever to get through though

Check your payment history in your Washington ESD account. Sometimes payments get delayed if there's a flag on your weekly claim that needs review. Could be something as simple as reporting work hours differently than usual.

•I checked and it just says 'processed' but no payment amount listed like usual

•That's definitely not normal. When it processes correctly you should see the payment amount right away. You'll need to contact Washington ESD to find out what's going on.

I had this exact problem 3 weeks ago! Spent days trying to call Washington ESD with no luck. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me through to an actual agent in like 20 minutes. Turns out my claim went into adjudication because I reported some freelance work and they needed to verify it. The agent fixed it right on the phone and I got my back payments within 2 days.

•Never heard of Claimyr before. Is it legit? How much does it cost?

Lauren Zeb
•Yeah it's totally legit. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Way better than sitting on hold for hours or getting disconnected.

•I'm skeptical of paying someone to call Washington ESD for me. Seems like something I should be able to do myself.

Missing payments usually mean one of three things: 1) Your weekly claim triggered a review, 2) There's an identity verification issue, or 3) You accidentally reported something that flagged your claim for adjudication. All of these require speaking to an agent to resolve.

•I didn't report anything different this week though. Same job search activities, no work hours, nothing changed.

•Sometimes the system flags claims randomly for quality control reviews. It's frustrating but happens to everyone eventually.

this happened to my sister too and it took 3 weeks to get sorted out because she couldn't reach anyone at washington esd

The Washington ESD phone system is absolutely broken. I've been trying to reach them for 2 weeks about a similar issue. The 833 number just hangs up on you after 2 hours on hold. It's like they don't want to help unemployed people.

•That's exactly what I'm worried about. I can't spend all day calling just to get hung up on.

•Try calling right when they open at 8am. Sometimes you get through faster in the morning.

•I've tried every time slot imaginable. The system is just overwhelmed.

Had the same issue last month. Turned out my bank flagged the deposit as suspicious and sent it back to Washington ESD. Check with your bank first before assuming it's an ESD problem.

•Good point, I'll call my bank too. But my account info hasn't changed and previous payments went through fine.

•Yeah banks sometimes get weird about government deposits for no reason. Worth checking though.

Washington ESD's system has been glitchy lately. I know 3 people who had payment delays in the past month for random reasons. One was because they 'randomly selected' her claim for review, another because the system thought he moved out of state (he didn't), and the third because of some job search verification thing.

Oscar Murphy
•This is so stressful. I wish they would at least send an email explaining why payments are delayed.

•Right? The lack of communication is the worst part. You just have to guess what went wrong.

I used Claimyr when I couldn't get through to Washington ESD about my overpayment issue. They're expensive but honestly worth it when you're dealing with urgent stuff like missing payments. Got connected to an agent same day and resolved everything in one call.

•How expensive are we talking? At this point I'm willing to pay if it means getting this fixed quickly.

•I'd rather not post the exact amount but it was less than what I would have lost waiting weeks for Washington ESD to call me back. Check their site for current pricing.

•Still think it's wrong that we have to pay extra just to reach our own government agencies.

ugh this is giving me anxiety just reading it. I'm supposed to certify this weekend and now I'm worried the same thing will happen to me

•Don't stress too much, it might just be random. But definitely keep track of what you report on your weekly claim.

•I screenshot everything now because I'm paranoid about these kinds of issues

Check if your claim status changed to 'adjudication in progress' - that's usually why payments stop suddenly. Mine did that when I reported attending a job fair and the system flagged it as 'training' which requires different documentation.

Oscar Murphy
•Where do I check the claim status? I'm looking at my account but I don't see that anywhere.

Royal_GM_Mark
•Should be on your main account page under 'Claim Information' or 'Claim Status'. If it's not there, that's another sign you need to call them.

Washington ESD is the worst. They make everything so complicated and then act like it's your fault when something goes wrong. I'm convinced they delay payments on purpose to save money.

•I just want my payment so I can pay my bills. This system is so broken.

•The whole unemployment system needs to be rebuilt from scratch. It's designed to discourage people from claiming benefits.

Try using the secure messaging system in your Washington ESD account instead of calling. Sometimes they respond faster to messages than phone calls.

Oscar Murphy
•I sent a message 3 days ago and haven't heard back yet. Maybe I'll send another one.

Rachel Clark
•Yeah they're slow with messages too but at least you don't have to sit on hold.

This exact thing happened to me 6 months ago and it was because someone with a similar social security number filed a fraudulent claim. Took forever to sort out but Washington ESD eventually fixed it and sent all my back payments.
0 coins
Oscar Murphy
•Oh god, how would I even know if that happened? That sounds terrifying.
0 coins
Zachary Hughes
•They should have sent you a letter if it was fraud-related. But the agent would be able to tell you right away what's causing the delay.

I work in HR and deal with unemployment claims all the time. Missing payments are almost always because something in your weekly claim needs manual review. Could be as simple as a job search contact that didn't match their database or reporting work hours in a way their system doesn't understand.
0 coins
Oscar Murphy
•That makes sense. I did apply to a few small companies this week that might not be in their system.
0 coins
Mia Alvarez
•Exactly. The system is very picky about job search entries matching their database exactly. An agent can override it in seconds once they see what happened.

Whatever you do, keep filing your weekly claims even if you're not getting paid. If you miss filing, you'll lose those weeks permanently even after they fix the payment issue.
0 coins
Oscar Murphy
•Good point, I'll definitely keep filing. Just hoping this gets resolved soon.

Carter Holmes
•Yeah don't skip any weeks no matter how frustrated you get. I've seen people lose thousands because they stopped filing during a delay.

Update us when you figure out what happened! I'm curious if it's something specific or just random Washington ESD weirdness.

•Will do! Probably going to try that Claimyr thing tomorrow if I can't get through on my own.

been there, it sucks waiting for payments when you have bills due. hope you get it sorted out quickly

•Thanks, really hoping it's just a simple mix-up that gets fixed fast.

One more thing to check - make sure your direct deposit info is still correct in your account. Sometimes banks change routing numbers and Washington ESD doesn't notify you when deposits bounce back.
0 coins
Oscar Murphy
•Just checked and all my banking info looks the same. This is so frustrating not knowing what's wrong.
0 coins
Logan Greenburg
•Yeah the not knowing is the worst part. At least once you talk to an agent you'll know exactly what needs to be fixed.

My friend had this happen and it was because she put 'N/A' instead of leaving a field blank on her job search log. The system flagged it as incomplete even though she had done 3 job searches that week. Such a stupid reason to hold up payments.
0 coins
Oscar Murphy
•Wow that's incredibly picky. I hope it's not something that minor causing my delay.

Charlotte Jones
•Right? The system has zero common sense built into it.
