Where can I file for unemployment in person - Washington ESD offices still open?
I need to file for unemployment but I'm having trouble with the online system. Are there any Washington ESD offices where I can file in person? I tried calling but keep getting busy signals and automated messages. I'm more comfortable doing this face-to-face if possible. Does anyone know if they still have walk-in services or if I need an appointment?

Most Washington ESD offices don't do walk-in unemployment filing anymore. They moved everything online through their website. You'll need to create an account on eServices and file your initial claim there.

•I tried the website but it keeps timing out when I'm filling out the forms. Is there any other way?

•Try using a different browser or clearing your cache. Chrome seems to work better than Internet Explorer for the Washington ESD site.

there might be some worksource offices that can help you file online but they dont do the actual filing for you, just help you navigate the website

•That could work! Do you know which WorkSource locations offer this help?

I had the same problem with the website crashing. What helped me was using Claimyr to get through to an actual Washington ESD agent who walked me through the filing process over the phone. Check out claimyr.com - they have a system that gets you connected without waiting on hold for hours. There's even a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

•Is that a legitimate service? I'm worried about giving my information to third parties.

•It's legit - they just help you get through the phone system to reach Washington ESD directly. You're still talking to actual ESD staff, not Claimyr people.

•I used Claimyr last month when I couldn't get through. Worked great and the ESD agent was able to help me complete my claim over the phone.

The reality is Washington ESD pushed everyone online during COVID and never went back to in-person services. It's frustrating but you're stuck with the website or phone system. The online filing is actually pretty straightforward once you get through the initial setup.

•What information do I need to have ready before I start the online application?

•You'll need your Social Security number, employment history for the last 18 months, dates of employment, wages earned, and reason for separation from each job.

•Also have your bank account info ready if you want direct deposit instead of the debit card option.

Why can't they just have ONE office open for people who need help? Not everyone is comfortable with computers!

•I totally agree! My elderly neighbor had to get her grandson to help her file online. It's ridiculous.

•Budget cuts and the pandemic changed everything. Libraries also have computers and staff who can help if you're not comfortable with technology.

I found the best time to use the Washington ESD website is early morning around 7 AM when fewer people are online. The system is much more stable then.

•That's a great tip! I'll try that tomorrow morning.

•Also try late at night after 10 PM. I filed mine at 11 PM with no issues.

Some unemployment offices in other states still do in-person filing but Washington went full digital. You might want to check if any community organizations in your area offer assistance with online applications?

•That's a good idea. I'll check with the local community center.

•United Way sometimes has volunteers who help with government applications too.

I work at a library and we help people with unemployment applications all the time. We can't file for you but we can help you navigate the website and make sure you have all the right information entered correctly.

•That sounds perfect! Do I need to make an appointment or can I just walk in?

•Most libraries take walk-ins but call ahead to make sure someone familiar with the ESD website is available to help.

honestly the website isn't that bad once you get used to it. took me about 30 minutes to complete my initial claim. just make sure you have all your employment info organized first

•Did you have any issues with the identity verification part? That's where I keep getting stuck.

For what it's worth, I tried everything - website, phone calls, even drove to the old ESD office (it was closed). Finally used Claimyr and got through to an agent in 15 minutes. They helped me file everything over the phone and explained the weekly claim process too.

•How much does Claimyr cost? I'm already worried about money.

•They focus on getting you connected quickly rather than keeping you on hold forever. Worth checking out their site to see if it makes sense for your situation.

The Washington ESD customer service reps can definitely help you file over the phone if you can reach them. They're actually pretty helpful once you get through. The hard part is just getting connected.

•I've heard Tuesday through Thursday mid-morning works better than Mondays or Fridays. Avoid calling right when they open at 8 AM.

This whole system is a joke. They eliminate in-person service but can't make their website work properly. Then they wonder why people are frustrated with the unemployment process.

•I feel your frustration but complaining won't get your claim filed. Focus on the solutions people have shared here.

•I understand the frustration but I need to get this done. The library idea sounds like my best bet.

Just wanted to follow up on the WorkSource suggestion - I went to the one downtown and they have computers you can use plus staff who can answer questions about the ESD website. They don't file for you but they can help troubleshoot if you get stuck.

•Thanks for the update! I'll check out both the library and WorkSource options.

•WorkSource also has job search resources which you'll need for your weekly claims anyway.

Remember that even if you get help filing your initial claim, you'll still need to file weekly claims online every week. Make sure you're comfortable with the eServices system before you start receiving benefits.

•Good point. I should probably practice navigating the website even if I get help with the initial filing.

•The weekly claims are actually much easier than the initial filing. Just a few questions each week about your job search and any work you did.
