What day do you call Washington ESD for unemployment - best times to reach them?
I'm trying to figure out the best day of the week to call Washington ESD about my unemployment claim. I've been calling randomly but keep getting busy signals or hung up on after waiting forever. Does anyone know if there's a specific day that works better than others? My claim has been in adjudication for 2 weeks and I really need to talk to someone about what's holding it up.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays seem to work better for me. Avoid Mondays at all costs - everyone calls on Monday after the weekend.

•Thanks! I'll try Tuesday morning. What time do you usually call?

•Right when they open at 8am or around 10:30am seems to work best

I've had the most luck calling on Wednesday afternoons around 2pm. The wait times are still long but at least I don't get disconnected as much.

•How long do you usually wait on hold? I waited 3 hours yesterday and got hung up on

Vanessa Figueroa
•Usually 45 minutes to 2 hours. It's ridiculous but sometimes that's what it takes to get through to Washington ESD

Honestly, I stopped trying to time it perfectly and started using Claimyr to get through. Found it on claimyr.com and they basically call for you and get you connected to an actual Washington ESD agent. Saved me so much time and frustration.

•Never heard of that, how does it work exactly?

•They handle all the calling and waiting for you. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Way easier than spending hours on the phone yourself

•Sounds too good to be true... is there a catch?

The Washington ESD phone lines are generally less busy mid-week (Tuesday-Thursday) and during mid-morning hours. Avoid calling right at 8am when they open or during lunch hours.

•That makes sense. I've been calling at 8am sharp thinking I'd get in first but it's always busy

Laila Prince
•Everyone has that same idea, so the lines get flooded immediately at opening time

thursdays have worked ok for me but honestly the whole system is a mess. been trying to get through about my job search requirements for weeks

•What's your issue with job search requirements? Maybe someone here can help

•they keep rejecting my job contacts even though im following the rules. need to talk to someone to understand what im doing wrong

I've tried every day of the week and honestly it's just luck of the draw. The system is overwhelmed and understaffed. Sometimes I get through in 20 minutes, sometimes I never get through at all.

•So frustrating! You'd think they'd have enough staff to handle the call volume by now

•They probably do it on purpose to discourage people from calling

Whatever you do, don't call on Fridays. That's when everyone tries to get their issues resolved before the weekend. Learned that the hard way.

Noland Curtis
•Good to know! I was planning to try Friday if I couldn't get through earlier this week

•Save yourself the headache and try Tuesday or Wednesday instead

For what it's worth, I had success with that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Used it last month when my claim got stuck in adjudication and couldn't get through on my own. They got me connected to an agent within a few hours.

•How much does something like that cost?

Vanessa Figueroa
•I'd rather pay something than waste days trying to get through myself. The time saved was definitely worth it for me

•Same here, especially when you're dealing with adjudication delays and need answers quickly

The whole calling system is broken. I've been unemployed for 6 months and probably spent 40+ hours just trying to get someone on the phone. It shouldn't be this hard to get help with your own claim.

Laila Prince
•I agree the system needs improvement, but there are strategies that can help increase your chances of getting through
0 coins
Dominique Adams
•Yeah maybe, but it's still ridiculous that we need 'strategies' just to talk to someone about our benefits

One thing I learned is to keep calling back immediately if you get a busy signal. Sometimes if you call back within a few seconds you'll get through to the queue.

Abby Marshall
•Really? I usually wait a few minutes before trying again
0 coins
Diez Ellis
•Nope, call back right away. The busy signals don't mean the lines are full, just that they're routing calls weirdly

has anyone tried calling the local WorkSource office instead? sometimes they can help with basic claim questions
0 coins
Laila Prince
•WorkSource can help with job search assistance but for claim-specific issues you need to reach Washington ESD directly

Marilyn Dixon
•ah ok that makes sense, thought it was worth asking

Update: I tried calling Tuesday morning like you all suggested and actually got through! Waited about an hour on hold but finally talked to someone about my adjudication. Thanks for the advice everyone.

•Awesome! What did they say about your adjudication?
0 coins
Noland Curtis
•They needed some additional documentation from my former employer. Should be resolved in another week or two once they get the paperwork

Vanessa Figueroa
•Great news! At least now you know what's causing the delay

might have to try that claimyr thing if i cant get through this week. getting desperate over here

•It's definitely worth trying if you're stuck. The peace of mind knowing someone else is handling the calling part is huge

•I'm still skeptical but if it works for people maybe it's worth a shot

Pro tip: if you're calling about adjudication issues specifically, they seem to have more specialized agents available on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
0 coins
Noland Curtis
•That's interesting, how did you figure that out?
0 coins
Louisa Ramirez
•Just from multiple calls over the past few months. The agents on those days seemed more knowledgeable about complex adjudication cases

Still think the best strategy is to use multiple approaches - try calling yourself on the better days/times, but have a backup plan like that calling service for when you really need to get through quickly.
0 coins
Laila Prince
•That's a balanced approach. Sometimes timing works out, sometimes you need additional help

•exactly, no point in being stubborn about it when your benefits are on the line

For anyone still struggling, I found early morning calls (8:15-8:30am) on Tuesday work better than right at 8am. Seems like there's a sweet spot after the initial rush.
0 coins
Diez Ellis
•That's a good point, I never thought about waiting just a few minutes after they open
0 coins
Angel Campbell
•Yeah, everyone calls exactly at 8am so if you wait 15-20 minutes you might hit a lull

quick question - do they take calls on federal holidays or just state holidays?
0 coins
Laila Prince
•Washington ESD follows the state holiday schedule, so they're closed on both federal and state holidays

•thanks, was wondering why I couldn't get through last Monday

Alright I'm convinced, going to try that Claimyr service next week if my regular calling doesn't work out. This thread has been really helpful.

Bottom line: Tuesday-Thursday, avoid 8am and lunch time, be prepared to wait, and have a backup plan. This should be pinned at the top of the forum lol

•Seriously, this thread should be required reading for anyone trying to call Washington ESD

Just want to add that if you're calling about weekly claim issues specifically, Thursday mornings seem to have shorter wait times than other adjudication-related calls.

•Good to know, I need to call about my weekly claims being held up

•Yeah Thursday around 9-10am worked well for me when I had weekly claim problems
