How to call Washington ESD unemployment office and actually get through?
I've been trying to call Washington ESD for over a week now about my pending claim and I can't get through to anyone. The automated system just says they're experiencing high call volume and hangs up on me. I've tried calling right when they open at 8am, during lunch, and even later in the afternoon but nothing works. My claim has been stuck in adjudication for almost 3 weeks and I really need to talk to someone to find out what's going on. Does anyone know the best time to call or have any tricks for getting through to an actual person?

I had the same problem last month. Kept getting disconnected after waiting on hold for like 20 minutes. It's so frustrating when you really need help with your claim.

•Exactly! I don't understand why they can't at least let you stay on hold instead of just hanging up. Did you ever get through?

•Eventually yeah but it took forever. Had to keep trying different times of day.

Try calling exactly at 8:00 AM when they open. Don't call a few minutes before or after - call right at 8. I've had better luck that way. Also make sure you have your Social Security number and claim confirmation number ready before you dial.

•I tried that but still got the busy signal. Maybe I need to keep trying multiple times right at 8?

StarSurfer
•Yeah, you might need to redial several times. The system gets overloaded immediately when they open.

•This is ridiculous that we have to play these games just to talk to someone about our benefits.

I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I was having the same problem. They basically call for you and connect you when they reach an agent. Saved me hours of frustration trying to get through myself. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Interesting, I've never heard of that. Is it legit? I'm so desperate at this point I'll try anything.

•Yeah it's totally legitimate. I was skeptical at first too but it worked for me. They just handle the calling part so you don't have to sit there redialing all day.

•How much does something like that cost though? I'm already struggling financially which is why I need my unemployment.

•It's worth checking out their site for details. For me it was worth it just to avoid the stress and wasted time of trying to call myself.

The Washington ESD phone system is definitely overwhelmed. A few things that might help: 1) Call the main customer service line at (800) 318-6022, 2) Have all your information ready (SSN, claim number, etc.), 3) Try calling on Tuesday-Thursday as Mondays and Fridays tend to be busier, 4) If you get through to the automated system, listen carefully to all options as they sometimes change the menu structure.

•Thanks for the specific number! I wasn't sure if I was calling the right one. I'll try Tuesday morning first thing.

•Wait, is that the same number for all unemployment issues or just certain types of claims?

Chloe Robinson
•That's the main customer service line for most unemployment questions. For specific issues like appeals or overpayments there might be different numbers, but that's where you'd start.

This whole system is broken. I've been trying to reach someone for TWO MONTHS about an overpayment notice that makes no sense. Every time I call it's the same runaround. We shouldn't have to jump through hoops like this just to get help with our benefits!

•I feel your pain. The system definitely needs improvement.

•Two months is way too long. Have you tried contacting your state representative's office? Sometimes they can help escalate these issues.

•I didn't think of that. How do you contact them about unemployment issues?

I've noticed that Wednesday around 10:30 AM seems to be a good time. Not sure why but I've gotten through twice at that time. Might just be coincidence though.

•I'll definitely try that time! At this point I'm willing to try any suggestion.

•Wednesday morning makes sense, people are probably less likely to call mid-week.

Just a heads up - when you do get through, have everything organized beforehand. The agents are usually helpful but they're also busy so you want to explain your situation clearly and concisely. Write down your main questions before you call.

Malik Jackson
•Good advice. I should definitely prepare what I'm going to say about my adjudication issue.

NeonNebula
•Exactly. Also don't be afraid to ask them to explain things if you don't understand. They deal with this stuff all day so what seems obvious to them might be confusing to us.

•And make sure to get a reference number or case number for your call in case you need to follow up later.

Has anyone tried using the online messaging system instead? I know it's not as immediate as calling but sometimes it's easier than trying to get through on the phone.

Malik Jackson
•I looked at that but wasn't sure if they actually respond to those messages. Do they?

Isabella Costa
•They're supposed to respond within a few business days but I've heard mixed results. Some people get responses, others don't.

•The online messages work better for simple questions. For complex issues like adjudication problems, you usually need to talk to someone directly.

I'm in the same boat - been trying to call for days about my job search requirements. The system is so frustrating. I'm going to try that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier because I'm running out of options.

•Hope it works for you like it did for me. It's definitely worth trying when you're stuck.

•Let me know how it goes! I'm considering trying it too.

One more tip - if you're calling about a specific issue like adjudication, try to call early in the week. The agents who handle those cases tend to be more available Monday through Wednesday. Also, don't give up if you get disconnected - the system sometimes does that even when agents are available.

Malik Jackson
•That's really helpful to know. I was starting to think they were just ignoring calls completely.

•The fact that we need all these workarounds just to contact our own unemployment office is ridiculous.

•I agree it's not ideal, but these tips can help while we're dealing with the current system.

Try calling around 2 PM on Tuesdays. That's when I got through last week. Also make sure you're calling from a phone number that's on file with your claim - I think that might help you get through faster.

Malik Jackson
•Oh that's a good point about the phone number! I didn't think about that.

Diego Chavez
•Does that really make a difference? I've been calling from different phones.

•I'm not 100% sure but it seemed to help when I used the same number I put on my application.

Update for anyone still struggling with this - I used Claimyr again this week for a different issue and they got me connected in about 30 minutes. Way better than spending my whole morning redialing. Definitely recommend it if you're having trouble getting through on your own.

Omar Hassan
•Thanks for the update! I'm definitely going to try it this week.

Malik Jackson
•This is really helpful. I think I'm going to give it a try too since I'm not making any progress calling myself.

Just remember that even when you do get through, the wait times can be long. I got connected last week and still had to hold for 45 minutes before talking to an agent. Bring something to do while you wait!
0 coins
Malik Jackson
•45 minutes is still better than never getting through at all. I'll definitely be prepared to wait.

Isabella Costa
•At least when you're on hold you know you'll eventually talk to someone, unlike getting disconnected right away.

For anyone dealing with adjudication issues specifically, make sure you have your work history and any documentation ready when you call. The agents will need those details to help resolve your case. Also, don't hesitate to ask for a supervisor if the first agent can't help with your specific situation.

Malik Jackson
•Great advice! I should gather all my employment records before I call. Thanks for thinking of that.

Ravi Malhotra
•This is exactly the kind of information they should provide upfront instead of making us figure it out ourselves.

•You're right, but in the meantime having everything ready will help speed up your call when you do get through.

I got through last Thursday around 11 AM after trying for three days. The agent was really helpful once I finally reached someone. Hang in there everyone - it's frustrating but you will eventually get through!

•Thanks for the encouragement! It's good to hear success stories. I'm not giving up.

•Three days of trying though... that's what I'm talking about with this broken system.

•Yeah it definitely shouldn't be this hard, but at least the agents are helpful when you do reach them.
