Shocked! ESD claims finally moved from adjudication to pending payment after 6 weeks

Just had the weirdest experience with my ESD claim and wanted to share in case it helps anyone. Been stuck in adjudication for SIX WHOLE WEEKS with two issues - identity verification and separation reasons. I uploaded my driver's license for the ID part and sent in the termination email my manager sent me for the separation issue. I've been calling ESD literally every week for the past month trying to get SOMEONE to tell me what's going on. Today I finally got through (after like 8 attempts) and the agent basically told me they're 'backed up' and processing claims on a 'first come, first served' basis. When I mentioned I've already been waiting 6 weeks, she casually says it could take 8-10 WEEKS total!!! I was like... seriously??? The crazy part - I just checked my eServices account when I got home and suddenly EVERYTHING is cleared and now it just says 'pending payment'! No explanation, nothing. Talk about timing. Has this happened to anyone else? How long after it changes to 'pending payment' did you actually get your money? I've been surviving on savings but they're basically gone now...

omg SAME THING happened 2 me!! stuck in adjudcation for 7 weeks, called like 20 times, and then randomly checked one day and it changed to pending payment without nobody telling me! got my $$ in my account exactly 2 business days later. its like they dont want to admit when they finally get to ur claim lol

2 business days?? That gives me hope! Did you have to do anything special or did it just show up in your account?

The ESD system is such a joke these days. I waited TWELVE weeks in adjudication last summer. Called every single day. Was told different things by different agents. Some said my employer hadn't responded, others said they were just backed up. When I finally got paid, it was almost $6,200 all at once because of how long they took! The problem is they're totally understaffed but they won't admit it. That's why they give you the "first come first served" BS. They prioritize certain claims based on complexity but they'll never tell you that.

This is exactly why I tell everyone to document EVERYTHING with ESD. Save screenshots of your uploads, keep a log of every call with agent names and what they told you. The system is designed to make you give up. Stay persistent!

This is actually a common pattern with ESD claims processing. The "pending payment" status typically means your claim has passed adjudication and is now in the payment queue. In most cases, you'll see the funds within 24-72 hours depending on your bank and whether weekends are involved. The 8-10 week timeframe they quoted you is their current worst-case scenario for complex claims. What likely happened is that an adjudicator finally reviewed your documents, found everything in order, and approved your claim right after your phone call. The timing was coincidental. For anyone else reading this who's stuck in adjudication, make sure you've properly uploaded ALL requested documents. Many claims get delayed because claimants miss a specific document request buried in their alerts or messages.

Thank you for explaining this! It really helps to understand what's happening behind the scenes. I wonder if my call somehow flagged my claim for review? Either way, I'm just relieved it's moving forward.

After being stuck in the ESD phone loop for 3 weeks trying to resolve my adjudication (they kept saying they needed more info but wouldn't tell me what!), I found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an ESD agent in under 15 minutes! It was seriously a game changer. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent I spoke with was able to see exactly what was holding up my claim and told me what documents I needed to upload. Saved me weeks of waiting. Their website is claimyr.com if anyone else is struggling to get through.

I work with unemployment claims professionally and can explain what likely happened in your case. When you called in, the agent probably put a note on your file, which sometimes bumps it up in the review queue. Then when an adjudicator reviewed your case and saw that you had already provided all the necessary documentation (ID verification and termination notice), they were able to clear both issues at once. The "pending payment" status means your benefits have been approved but haven't been processed by the payment system yet. Typically, this takes 24-48 hours, then add 1-3 business days for the funds to reach your account depending on your payment method (direct deposit is fastest, debit cards take longer). FYI - for identity verification issues, they're now using a more streamlined process in 2025 than they did in previous years, but separation issues still require manual review, which is why there's such a backlog. Glad to hear yours is moving forward!

This is so helpful! I did choose direct deposit, so hopefully that means I'll see something by the end of the week. One question - will I get back payment for all 6 weeks at once, or will they pay week by week?

When mine went from adjudicatino to payment I got all 8 weeks at once, was over $4700! But I herd they sometimes split it up if its a really big amount

Congrats on getting through adjudication! Just a heads up though - don't spend that money until it's actually in your account. I've seen cases where claims go to "pending payment" and then get flagged for additional review. Not trying to worry you, just saying be cautious. Also, make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for payment. Some people think they don't need to file while in adjudication, but then they lose those weeks when their claim is finally approved.

Oh no, that's concerning. I've definitely been filing my weekly claims religiously every Sunday. Haven't missed a single one. I'll try not to count on the money until I actually see it in my account.

My daughter went through something similar in January. What no one tells you is that sometimes claims get randomly selected for additional verification as part of ESD's fraud prevention measures. It's not because you did anything wrong; they're just being extra cautious after all the fraud issues they had during COVID. BTW she also had a job separation issue and when her money finally came through, she got a letter explaining that her former employer had actually contested her claim but ESD ruled in her favor. Maybe something similar happened with yours?

That's interesting about the fraud prevention - maybe that's why my ID was flagged. I worked for the same company for 4 years before they downsized our department, so I'm pretty sure my employer wouldn't contest it. But who knows what goes on behind the scenes!

This gives me so much hope! I've been stuck in adjudication for 4 weeks now with a separation issue (got laid off due to company restructuring). I've uploaded all my documents including the official layoff notice from HR, but every time I call they just say "it's being reviewed." Reading everyone's experiences here makes me feel like I'm not going crazy - the whole system really is just overwhelmed and understaffed. I'm going to keep filing my weekly claims like you mentioned and try to be more patient. Hopefully mine will randomly switch to pending payment soon too! Thanks for sharing your story Carlos, it's reassuring to know that even after 6 weeks things can suddenly move forward.
