ReliaCard not arriving after 2 weeks - how long does ESD debit card really take?
Hi everyone! I'm new to the Washington unemployment system and chose the ReliaCard option for my benefits. My claim was approved and I've already received two benefit payments according to my ESD account (totaling around $1,740). However, I still haven't received my actual debit card in the mail. The ESD website said it would take approximately 10 business days, but it's been longer than that now. I can see the money is there in my account but can't access it without the physical card! Has anyone else experienced delays with receiving their ReliaCard? Should I be concerned that it got lost in the mail? Is there a number I should call to check on the status? I really need to access these funds for rent that's coming due next week. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 😊

it took like 3 weeks for mine to show up no joke. esd said 10 days but us bank who makes the card takes FOREVER to mail them out. dont worry its probably coming just suuuuuper slow. but if its been more than 20 days you should def call us bank. dont bother with esd they just tell you to contact the bank anyway

•Thanks for the info! It's been about 16 days so far, so maybe I should give it another week before panicking. Do you happen to have the US Bank number handy? Also, when your card finally arrived, were all your payments there or did you lose any?

The official timeline from US Bank is 7-10 business days, but in my experience (and many others I've talked to), it typically takes 2-3 weeks for the ReliaCard to arrive. The good news is that all your payments are safely on the card already - they don't get lost just because you don't have physical access to the card yet. If it's been more than 3 weeks, you should definitely call US Bank ReliaCard customer service at 1-888-964-0359. They can confirm if your card has been mailed and possibly expedite a replacement if needed. Don't wait too long if you need the funds urgently. Also, once you get the card, I recommend setting up direct deposit to your regular bank account through the ReliaCard website or app. That way you don't have to worry about using the physical card for everything.

•this is good advice but also MAKE SURE ur mailing address is 100% correct in both ur ESD account AND with the post office. my roommate had his card sent back cuz his name wasnt on our mailbox!!!

I had the WORST time with this last year! The card never showed up after a month of waiting, and when I called US Bank, they said they mailed it but couldn't tell me where exactly they sent it. Had to request a new one and wait ANOTHER two weeks. So irritating! Meanwhile, I had bills piling up and couldn't access MY MONEY that was sitting there! ESD was no help - they just told me it's a US Bank issue. The whole system is ridiculous. Why can't they just direct deposit to your regular bank account from the beginning?? If I were you, I'd call US Bank right away instead of waiting. The number is on the ReliaCard website. Don't make my mistake of waiting too long!

•Oh no, that sounds awful! I'm worried the same thing might happen to me. I double-checked my address in the ESD system and it's correct. Did they charge you a fee for the replacement card?

I've helped many claimants with this issue, and here's what you need to know: 1. The first ReliaCard typically takes 10-15 business days (so 2-3 weeks total) to arrive. This is longer than the 7-10 days officially stated. 2. All your payments are safe and will accumulate on the card even before you receive it. 3. If it's been more than 15 business days, call US Bank ReliaCard directly at 1-888-964-0359. They can verify if a card was mailed, when it was sent, and to what address. 4. If you need immediate access to your funds, US Bank can expedite a replacement card for a fee (typically $15) that arrives in 2-3 business days. 5. Once you receive your card, you can set up the ReliaCard mobile app to manage your funds and set up transfers to your personal bank account. Keep in mind that the first card comes automatically once your first payment is processed, but any replacement must be requested directly through US Bank, not ESD.

•Thank you so much for this detailed information! I'll give it a few more days since I'm at day 16, and then contact US Bank if needed. I didn't realize they could expedite a card - that's really helpful to know in case I need funds urgently.

When I was on unemployment back in January, I had a similar issue with my ReliaCard. Have you tried calling US Bank yet? Getting through to ESD is basically impossible these days - I spent HOURS trying to talk to someone there about my missing card. I actually ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an ESD agent. They got me through to an actual person at ESD in about 30 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own with no luck. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The ESD agent was able to confirm my card had been issued and gave me the direct US Bank number to call. Turns out my card had been sent to my old address even though I updated it in the ESD system! So definitely worth checking on this sooner rather than later.

•I wish I'd known about that service when I was dealing with my card issues! Spent days trying to get through to ESD just to be told to call US Bank anyway. Such a waste of time.

•A month?! That's ridiculous! I hope mine doesn't take that long. I'm going to give it until the end of this week and then start making calls. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Just a suggestion - when you DO finally get your ReliaCard, immediately set up direct deposit transfers to your regular bank account. You can do this through the US Bank ReliaCard website or app. That way you won't have to worry about the card for future payments. I learned this the hard way when my ReliaCard got damaged and I had to wait for a replacement. Now all my unemployment payments automatically transfer to my regular checking account as soon as they hit the ReliaCard. Much more convenient! Also, save the US Bank ReliaCard customer service number (1-888-964-0359) in your phone. You'll likely need it at some point, and it's much faster to deal with them directly than going through ESD.

UPDATE: My ReliaCard FINALLY arrived today - took exactly 18 days! All my payments were there just as everyone said. Thanks for all the helpful advice. I've already set up the mobile app and scheduled transfers to my regular bank account for future payments. For anyone else waiting on their card, the timeline on the ESD website is definitely optimistic. Plan for 2-3 weeks instead of the 7-10 business days they claim. And definitely set up direct transfers once you get it!

•Glad to hear you finally got your card! 18 days is pretty typical from what I've seen. Smart move setting up the automatic transfers right away - that's going to save you so much hassle down the road. Thanks for updating us with the good news!

Congrats on getting your card! 18 days is actually pretty good - I've seen people wait a full month. The ESD website timeline is definitely misleading. I always tell people to expect 3-4 weeks just to be safe. Pro tip for anyone still waiting: you can also call US Bank and ask them to text you when your card ships. They don't advertise this feature but they'll do it if you ask. Helped me track when mine was actually on the way instead of just wondering every day if it would show up in the mail. Also seconding the direct deposit setup - once you do that you basically never have to think about the ReliaCard again except as a backup. The transfers are usually same-day or next-day depending on your bank.

•That's a great tip about asking US Bank to text you when the card ships! I wish I had known about that - would have saved me a lot of stress wondering if it was actually coming. The direct deposit setup really is a game changer too. I already transferred my first payment to my regular account and it showed up the next morning. Thanks for all the helpful advice everyone - this community is amazing!

So glad you got your card and everything worked out! Your experience is really helpful for others going through the same thing. I'm currently on day 12 waiting for mine, so reading that 18 days is normal actually makes me feel better about the wait. One thing I wanted to add - if anyone is really desperate for funds while waiting, some banks will let you do a cash advance at their ATMs once you have the card number (even without the physical card). You'd need to call US Bank to get the card number and set up a PIN over the phone. There's usually a fee but it might be worth it for emergencies. I haven't tried this myself but saw it mentioned in another forum. Thanks again for updating us - it's so nice when people follow up with the resolution! 😊

•Wow, I had no idea about the cash advance option! That's really good to know for emergency situations. I'm glad I didn't need to go that route but it's reassuring to know it exists. Day 12 isn't too bad - you're probably getting close! The wait is definitely nerve-wracking when you can see the money sitting there but can't touch it. Fingers crossed yours arrives soon! And thanks for adding that tip about the cash advance - I'm sure that could really help someone in a pinch.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the timeline, Luca! I'm currently on day 14 waiting for my ReliaCard and was starting to get really anxious about it. Reading everyone's responses here has been so helpful - it sounds like 2-3 weeks is the real timeline, not the 7-10 business days they advertise. I'm definitely going to save that US Bank number (1-888-964-0359) and plan to set up automatic transfers as soon as I get my card. The idea of having future payments go straight to my regular bank account sounds so much better than dealing with the ReliaCard every time. Quick question for anyone who's set up the transfers - are there any fees for moving money from the ReliaCard to your personal bank account? And how long do the transfers typically take?

Diego Rojas
•Hey Jayden! I can help answer your questions about the transfers since I just set mine up. There are NO fees for transferring money from your ReliaCard to your personal bank account - which is awesome! The transfers are free whether you do them one-time or set up automatic recurring transfers. As for timing, it depends on your bank. For me, transfers initiated before 3 PM usually show up in my checking account the next business day. Some banks are faster - I've heard people say theirs clear the same day. You can do transfers through the ReliaCard mobile app or website, and you can set up automatic transfers so every unemployment payment gets moved over without you having to think about it. Day 14 isn't too bad based on what everyone's shared here. Hang in there - it should arrive soon! The peace of mind once you get it set up with automatic transfers is totally worth the wait.

I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now! Filed my claim 3 weeks ago and it was approved with payments showing in my account, but still no ReliaCard in sight. It's so frustrating seeing the money there but not being able to access it when bills are due. Reading through everyone's experiences here is actually really reassuring though - sounds like 2-3 weeks is totally normal despite what the ESD website says. I'm at the 3 week mark now so thinking I should probably call that US Bank number (1-888-964-0359) that everyone mentioned to check on the status. Has anyone had success getting the card expedited if it's been lost? I'm wondering if it's worth paying the $15 fee to get a replacement sent faster rather than waiting potentially another week or two. My rent is due in a few days and I really need access to these funds! 😰

•Hey Paolo! I totally understand the stress - I was in almost the exact same situation just recently. At the 3 week mark, I'd definitely recommend calling that US Bank number to check on your card status. When you call, they can tell you if it was actually mailed and when, plus confirm the address it went to. If you're facing an urgent situation like rent being due, the $15 expedited replacement might be worth it for peace of mind. From what others have shared, the expedited cards usually arrive in 2-3 business days, which could get you access to your funds much faster than waiting for the original card that might be lost in the mail. Also, when you do call US Bank, ask them about that cash advance option someone mentioned earlier - you might be able to get some emergency access to your funds even without the physical card if you really need it for rent. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted out quickly! The waiting game is the worst part but your money is definitely safe and waiting for you.

I'm going through this exact same thing right now! Filed my claim about 2.5 weeks ago, got approved, can see my payments in the ESD portal, but no ReliaCard yet. It's so nerve-wracking when you can see your money sitting there but can't touch it! Reading through everyone's experiences here has been super helpful though. Sounds like the 7-10 business day timeline on the ESD website is pretty much useless and 2-3 weeks is the real expectation. I'm planning to give it until the end of this week (which would put me at exactly 3 weeks) and then call that US Bank number everyone mentioned. Thanks for posting this question @Luca - and congrats on finally getting your card! Really appreciate everyone sharing their timelines and tips. I'm definitely going to set up those automatic transfers to my regular bank account as soon as my card arrives. This whole ReliaCard system seems unnecessarily complicated when they could just offer direct deposit from the start!

•@Royal_GM_Mark I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too! The waiting really is the worst part, especially when you can literally see your money sitting there. Your timeline sounds very similar to what most people have experienced - that 3 week mark seems to be when it's worth calling to check on things. I think you're smart to wait until exactly 3 weeks before calling US Bank. That seems to be the sweet spot where it's reasonable to follow up but not too early that they'll just tell you to wait longer. And definitely save that phone number in your contacts - 1-888-964-0359 - because from everyone's experience here, going directly to US Bank is way more effective than trying to deal with ESD about card issues. You're absolutely right about the system being unnecessarily complicated! It would be so much easier if they just offered direct deposit as the default option instead of making everyone go through this card process first. But at least once you get it set up with automatic transfers, you basically never have to deal with the ReliaCard again. Hang in there - you're almost at the finish line!

I'm in the exact same boat right now! Just hit the 2 week mark waiting for my ReliaCard and starting to get anxious about it. My claim was approved and I can see two payments sitting there (about $1,200) but obviously can't access any of it without the physical card. Reading through everyone's experiences here is really reassuring though - sounds like 2-3 weeks is totally normal despite what ESD claims about 7-10 business days. I'm going to give it another week and then call US Bank at that number everyone mentioned (1-888-964-0359) to check on the status. Really appreciate everyone sharing their timelines and the tip about setting up automatic transfers once the card arrives. That seems like the way to go to avoid this whole waiting game for future payments. The fact that there are no fees for transfers is great news too! @Luca glad you finally got your card and everything worked out! Stories like yours give me hope that mine will show up soon too 😊

•@Ezra I'm in almost the exact same situation as you! Just hit 2.5 weeks myself and can see about $1,400 sitting there that I can't touch. It's so frustrating but reading everyone's experiences here has definitely helped calm my nerves about it being normal. The 7-10 business day estimate from ESD is clearly just wishful thinking at this point - seems like everyone's real experience is closer to 3 weeks. I'm planning to call that US Bank number this Friday if mine still hasn't shown up by then. Really glad @Luca shared their experience and that everyone has been so helpful with tips! The automatic transfer setup sounds like a lifesaver once we finally get these cards. Fingers crossed both of our cards show up soon! 🤞

I'm going through the exact same situation right now! I'm on day 19 waiting for my ReliaCard and was starting to panic, but reading through all these responses has been incredibly helpful and reassuring. It's clear that the ESD timeline of 7-10 business days is way too optimistic - sounds like 2-3 weeks is the actual reality. I can see my payments sitting there in my account (around $980 so far) but obviously can't access them without the physical card. It's so stressful when you have bills coming due! I'm going to follow everyone's advice and call US Bank at 1-888-964-0359 tomorrow to check on the status since I'm almost at the 3-week mark. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and timelines - it really helps to know this delay is normal and that the money doesn't disappear. I'm definitely going to set up those automatic transfers to my regular bank account as soon as the card arrives. This whole process would be so much easier if they just offered direct deposit from the beginning! @Luca congrats on finally getting your card and thanks for updating us with the good news! 😊

•@Chloe I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too! Day 19 definitely puts you in that zone where calling US Bank makes total sense. From everyone's experiences here, that seems to be right around when most people either get their cards or find out there was some kind of issue with delivery. When you call tomorrow, definitely ask them to confirm the exact address the card was sent to - a few people mentioned their cards got sent to old addresses even though they updated their info with ESD. And if there was a delivery issue, that $15 expedited replacement fee might be worth it to get your funds accessible quickly, especially with bills coming due. The stress is so real when you can literally see your money sitting there! But like everyone said, it's safe and waiting for you. Hopefully your call tomorrow gives you some good news and either confirms your card is on the way or gets a replacement sent out fast. Keep us posted on how it goes! 🤞

I'm currently on day 11 waiting for my ReliaCard and this thread has been so helpful! It's really reassuring to see that pretty much everyone experiences delays beyond that 7-10 business day estimate from ESD. @Luca thanks for sharing your experience and congrats on finally getting your card! Your timeline of 18 days seems pretty typical based on what everyone else has shared here. I'm definitely saving that US Bank number (1-888-964-0359) and will call them if I hit the 3-week mark without my card arriving. The tip about setting up automatic transfers once you get the card is golden - I had no idea you could do that with no fees! That's definitely going to be the first thing I do once my card shows up. Would save so much hassle for future payments. It's honestly ridiculous that ESD doesn't just offer direct deposit as the default option instead of forcing everyone through this ReliaCard waiting game first. But at least knowing what to expect helps manage the anxiety of watching your money sit there inaccessible! Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and timelines - this community is awesome for helping newcomers navigate this confusing system! 😊

•@Sofia You're absolutely right that this community is amazing for helping people navigate the system! Day 11 is still pretty early based on everyone's experiences here, so you've got some breathing room before needing to worry. The fact that you already know about the US Bank number and the automatic transfer setup puts you way ahead of where most of us were when we started this process! I totally agree about ESD needing to offer direct deposit as the default - it would eliminate so much stress and confusion. The whole ReliaCard system feels like an unnecessary middleman when most people just want their benefits to go straight to their regular bank account anyway. Hopefully your card shows up in the next week or so! And definitely come back and update us when you get it - it's always nice to hear the success stories and it helps other people in the same situation know they're not alone in the wait. Good luck! 🤞

I'm currently on day 15 waiting for my ReliaCard and this entire thread has been a lifesaver! When I first saw that my payments were approved but no card was arriving, I was starting to panic thinking something went wrong. But seeing everyone's real experiences here - especially @Luca getting theirs on day 18 - has really put my mind at ease. The ESD timeline of 7-10 business days is clearly just wishful thinking! It sounds like pretty much everyone waits 2-3 weeks minimum. I'm going to follow the advice here and wait until I hit the 3-week mark before calling US Bank at 1-888-964-0359 to check on status. I can see about $850 sitting in my account that I can't access yet, which is frustrating but at least I know it's safe and waiting for me. The automatic transfer setup with no fees sounds amazing - definitely doing that immediately once my card arrives so I never have to deal with this waiting game again for future payments! Thanks to everyone for sharing your timelines and tips. This community is so helpful for navigating what can be a really stressful process! 😊

•@Kaylee I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too! Day 15 is right in that normal range based on everyone's experiences here. It's crazy how misleading that ESD timeline is - they really should update it to reflect reality instead of getting people's hopes up with 7-10 days. Your plan to wait until the 3-week mark before calling US Bank sounds perfect. That seems to be the sweet spot where it's reasonable to follow up without being too early. And $850 is a nice chunk of change sitting there waiting for you - I know it's frustrating not being able to access it, but like everyone said, it's definitely safe! The automatic transfer feature really is a game changer once you get it set up. I wish I had known about it from the beginning - would have saved so much stress about future payments. You're going to love having your benefits just show up in your regular account like magic! Hang in there, you're getting close to that typical delivery window! 🤞

I'm on day 13 waiting for my ReliaCard and this whole thread has been incredibly reassuring! When I first started seeing delays past that 7-10 business day estimate, I thought maybe something had gone wrong with my application. But clearly everyone goes through this same waiting period. @Luca thanks so much for posting this question and following up with your success story! It's really helpful to see the full timeline from start to finish. And to everyone else who shared their experiences - this community is amazing for helping people understand what to actually expect vs. what ESD tells you to expect. I've got about $1,340 sitting in my account that I can't touch yet, which is nerve-wracking, but at least I know it's normal and the money is safe. I'm definitely going to save that US Bank number (1-888-964-0359) and call them if I don't see my card by day 20 or so. The automatic transfer setup sounds like absolute genius - I had no idea that was even an option! That's going to be the first thing I do once my card arrives. Thanks everyone for all the helpful tips and for sharing your real timelines. Makes this whole process so much less stressful when you know what to actually expect! 😊

•@Emma I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too! Day 13 is still well within that normal 2-3 week window everyone's been talking about, so you're definitely not behind schedule. It's honestly shocking how off that ESD estimate is - they really need to update their website to reflect what actually happens in the real world! $1,340 is a substantial amount to have sitting there inaccessible, so I totally understand the nerve-wracking feeling. But like everyone has emphasized, your money is completely safe and just waiting for you to get that physical card. Your plan to call US Bank around day 20 sounds perfect based on what others have shared. The automatic transfer feature really does seem like the holy grail solution once you get through this initial waiting period! It's amazing that ESD doesn't promote this option more heavily since it would solve so many people's ongoing concerns about the ReliaCard system. You're going to love having your future payments just appear in your regular account without any of this stress. Hang in there - you're more than halfway through the typical wait time! 🤞
