Yes, unemployment benefits are 100% taxable income and must be reported on your federal tax return. ESD sends out 1099-G forms electronically now unless you specifically requested paper copies. You need to log into your eServices account (not just SAW) and look for the 1099-G section. The forms should have been available since late January. If you can't find it there, you need to call ESD directly because they're required by law to provide this document. The number is 833-572-8400, but good luck getting through...

•omg thank you! i didn't realize i had to go into eServices specifically... i was just on the main SAW dashboard thing. i'll try that tonight. do you know if there's like a specific tab or section where they keep tax forms? the esd website is so confusing sometimes

You DEFINITELY need to report all unemployment benefits on your federal taxes - the IRS gets a copy of your 1099-G automatically so they'll know if you don't report it. Here's exactly how to find your 1099-G: 1. Log into SAW account 2. Select your eServices account 3. Click on the UI claim option 4. Look for "1099-G tax forms" in the left menu 5. Select the tax year (2023) If it's not there, it could be because you selected paperless correspondence but ESD still sent a physical copy to your mailing address. Check your mail from January/February.

I had the SAME PROBLEM last month!! I was literally panicking because my tax guy was like "where's your 1099-G?" and I had no idea what he was talking about lol. I tried calling ESD for THREE DAYS and couldn't get through - busy signals or disconnections every time. Then I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a demo video too: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent helped me get access to my 1099-G right on the call. Apparently my account settings were messed up which is why I couldn't see it online.

•Is that service legit? i'm always sketched out by third party sites claiming to help with govt stuff...

•Yeah it's legit - all they do is connect you to the actual ESD agents, they don't access your account or anything. The ESD rep I talked to had even heard of them before.

The whole ESD system is DESIGNED to FRUSTRATE people and make them give up!!!! I bet they're hoping people just don't report the income so they can hit you with penalties later. The 1099-G should be mailed automatically but of course they "forgot" to send it to half the people in WA just like they "forget" to process claims on time. Don't even get me started on their website that looks like it was designed in 2003!!!!!

•my cousin works at esd and says they're just really understaffed still from all the covid stuff...not everything is a conspiracy lol

•Being "understaffed" doesn't excuse a government agency from following FEDERAL LAW requiring tax forms to be provided by January 31st!!! But keep defending them I guess 🙄

If you absolutely cannot find your 1099-G after trying the eServices method, you can request a duplicate by calling the dedicated tax form hotline at 800-518-6097. Sometimes that line has shorter wait times than the main ESD number. Just be ready with your SSN and ESD account information. Also worth noting - if you don't get your 1099-G in time to file taxes, you can still file using the total amount of benefits you received from your payment history in eServices. Just make sure you include ALL benefits paid in 2023 (including any retroactive payments from previous claims).

•wait you can use just the payment history numbers? that might be easier for me since i can at least see that part. is there any downside to doing it that way?

•You can use payment history in a pinch, but the 1099-G will be more accurate because it includes any adjustments or offsets. Plus if you're audited, they'll want to see that you had the official form. Try the dedicated tax line first - it's really your best option.

Just wanted to follow up to make sure you found your 1099-G. If you're still having trouble, there's one more option - you can submit a secure message through eServices specifically requesting your 1099-G. Go to your eServices account > Click on "Send a message" > Select "I need a copy of my 1099-G" from the dropdown menu. They're supposed to respond within 5-7 business days, which might still give you enough time before the tax deadline.
