Login issues with ESD and WorkSource accounts - locked out of both!

I'm at my wits end trying to access my unemployment benefits! Spent 2 hours today in a WorkSource chat trying to get help with my account access and made zero progress. The rep kept asking me security questions I'd already answered and then disconnected. Now when I try to log into my ESD unemployment account, that's not working either! It says 'credentials invalid' even though I KNOW I'm using the right password. I've reset it twice already. Do I need to create separate logins for WorkSource and ESD? Why would both stop working on the same day? I have a weekly claim due tomorrow and I'm panicking that I'll miss it and lose benefits. Has anyone else had both systems lock them out simultaneously?

This happened to me last month! The ESD and WorkSource systems are connected through SecureAccess Washington (SAW), but they have different login requirements. If you reset your password too many times in a 24 hour period, it can trigger a security lockout. Try waiting until tomorrow and then use the 'Forgot Password' option again - but make sure you're doing it through the SAW portal directly, not through either of the individual systems.

THANK YOU!!! No one explained the SAW connection. I've been resetting through each system separately. So even though they're connected, I need to use SAW directly? That makes no sense but I'll try it tomorrow. Just hope I don't lose my benefits over this technical nightmare.

WorkSource and ESD r different but use same SAW login. Happened 2 me 2. Try on different browser or clear cookies, sometimes that fixes it.

I'll try Chrome instead of Firefox - good idea. Still freaking out about missing my weekly claim deadline though!

The systems are definitely connected through SAW, but there's actually a known issue right now with account synchronization between WorkSource and ESD. I had to call the technical support line to get it fixed. Unfortunately, their regular phone lines are always jammed. I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days calling. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent was able to reset my access on their end and explained that sometimes when you chat with WorkSource, it can trigger a security verification on your ESD account too. They fixed both accounts for me at once.

I've never heard of that service - does it actually work? I'm desperate at this point, so I'll check out the video. Did they explain why both accounts would lock simultaneously? That's what I don't understand.

Yes, it worked for me! The agent explained that both systems cross-check each other for security. If one detects unusual activity (like multiple password resets or failed logins), it can trigger security protocols in both systems. When the agent reset mine, they had to verify my identity with additional questions that weren't available through the self-service options.

I work as an employment counselor, and this is actually a common issue we're seeing since ESD updated their security protocols last month. Here's what you need to know: 1) Yes, WorkSource and ESD both use SAW for authentication, but they have separate account verification systems 2) If you've made multiple login attempts across both systems, you might have triggered a 24-hour security lockout 3) Most importantly: **Even if you can't log in, you can still file your weekly claim by phone at 800-318-6022** Use the automated phone system to file your claim so you don't miss your deadline. Then tomorrow morning, try the SAW reset process again. If that fails, you'll need to speak with someone directly at ESD Technical Support to unlock both accounts.

OH MY GOD THANK YOU!! I had no idea I could file by phone! That takes so much pressure off. I'll do that tonight and then deal with the login issues tomorrow. You've saved me from a panic attack!

When I had this problem it was because my browser was blocking cookies from the ESD website. You might want to check your privacy settings. I had to add esd.wa.gov and worksourcewa.com to my allowed sites list. Also, try using incognito/private browsing mode - sometimes that bypasses these issues.

I hate how they make everything so complicated!!! I was on unemployment last year and EVERY SINGLE WEEK there was some new problem with the system. One week my password wouldn't work, the next week they'd say I didn't complete job searches even though I did. Then they put me in adjudication for TWO MONTHS with no explanation and I almost lost my apartment waiting for them to figure it out. The whole system is designed to make people give up. They don't WANT to help us.

While I understand your frustration, the system isn't designed to make people give up. Most issues stem from the massive volume of claims ESD handles with limited staffing. For technical issues like the one described here, there are usually straightforward solutions available. If you find yourself in adjudication again, request an expedited review based on financial hardship.

UPDATE: I called the automated line and filed my weekly claim by phone (thank you for that tip!!) and then tried again this morning after waiting 24 hours. I used an incognito browser window, went directly to the SAW login page (not through ESD or WorkSource), cleared my cookies first, and IT WORKED! I can now access both my ESD and WorkSource accounts again. For anyone else with this issue - don't make my mistake of trying to reset through each individual system. Go directly to secure.wa.gov and do it there ONCE. Thanks everyone for your help!

Excellent! Glad it worked out. This is exactly the right approach. For future reference, whenever you encounter login issues with ANY Washington state system that uses SAW (Employment Security, Labor & Industries, Department of Revenue, etc.), always go directly to the SAW portal first to resolve authentication problems.
