Is Washington ESD unemployment office open on Veterans Day?
Need to call Washington ESD tomorrow about my pending claim but just realized it's Veterans Day. Does anyone know if their phone lines will be open? I've been trying to get through for weeks about my adjudication issue and finally cleared my schedule to call first thing in the morning.

Washington ESD follows federal holidays so they'll be closed on Veterans Day. Phone lines, in-person offices, everything shuts down for the day.

•Ugh seriously? I had my whole day planned around calling them. Thanks for letting me know though.

•Same here, was gonna call about my job search requirements question. Guess I'm waiting until Tuesday.

Yeah they're definitely closed. But honestly you might have better luck on Tuesday anyway - Mondays after holidays are usually swamped with people who couldn't call the day before.

•That's a good point actually. Maybe I'll try calling Wednesday instead to avoid the rush.

•Smart thinking. I always avoid calling Washington ESD on Mondays if I can help it.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD by phone, I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to an agent in like 20 minutes. Way better than spending hours redialing. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Never heard of that before. Is it legit? I'm desperate at this point, been trying to reach them for 3 weeks about my claim.

•Yeah it's totally legitimate. They basically call for you and stay on hold, then connect you when they get through. Saved me so much frustration.

•I used Claimyr too after seeing it mentioned here. Got through to Washington ESD same day when I'd been trying for weeks on my own.

All Washington state agencies are closed on Veterans Day since it's a federal holiday. This includes Washington ESD offices and phone support. You can still file your weekly claim online though - that system stays up 24/7.

•Good reminder about weekly claims. Almost forgot I needed to do mine this week.

•Already filed mine but thanks for the reminder! Just need to talk to someone about this adjudication mess.

OMG I literally drove to the WorkSource office this morning before remembering it was Veterans Day. Felt like such an idiot sitting in an empty parking lot lol

•Haha I almost did the same thing! Good thing I checked Google first.

•Been there! Did that on Labor Day a few years back.

For future reference, Washington ESD is closed on all federal holidays: New Year's Day, MLK Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Also closed the day after Thanksgiving.

•Thanks for the complete list! I should bookmark this so I don't waste time trying to call on holidays.

•Super helpful! Wish they made this more obvious on their website.

•They do list it if you dig around but it's not very prominent. Should be right on the main page IMO.

What kind of adjudication issue are you dealing with? Might be able to give you some tips on what to ask when you do get through.

•It's about my separation from my last job. My employer is claiming I quit but I was actually laid off due to budget cuts. Been waiting 4 weeks for them to review it.

Fiona Sand
•Oof that's frustrating. Make sure you have any documentation about the layoff when you call - emails, notices, anything that shows it wasn't voluntary.

•Separation issues can take 4-6 weeks unfortunately. The adjudicator has to contact your employer and review all the evidence before making a decision.

Are their online services affected by holidays too or just phone/in-person?

Nathaniel Mikhaylov
•Online services like filing weekly claims and checking your account stay available. Only the phone support and physical offices close for holidays.

•Yeah you can still do everything through eServices on holidays, just can't talk to a human.

Honestly the phone system is so overloaded anyway, one more closed day probably doesn't make much difference. I've been trying to get through for a month about my overpayment notice.

•A MONTH?? That's insane. Have you tried using that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier?

•Not yet but I'm definitely looking into it now. This is ridiculous.

•Seriously recommend Claimyr for overpayment issues. Those are time-sensitive and you don't want to miss appeal deadlines.

Try calling right at 8am on Tuesday when they reopen. First hour is usually your best bet for getting through.

•Good tip! I'll set an alarm and call exactly at 8.

•8am sharp is key. Even 8:15 and the lines are already jammed.

•I've had good luck calling around 11:30am too, right before lunch break. Sometimes there's a little lull then.

Does anyone know if the callback feature works better than just calling directly?

Kevin Bell
•What callback feature? I didn't know Washington ESD had one.

•I think they have some kind of callback option but I've never been able to figure out how to use it.

Nathaniel Mikhaylov
•Washington ESD doesn't have a callback system. You might be thinking of another agency.

Just remember to have all your info ready when you do get through - claim number, SSN, dates, etc. Nothing worse than finally reaching an agent and then fumbling around looking for paperwork.

•Great point! I'll make a list of everything I need beforehand.

•Also write down your questions ahead of time. Easy to forget what you wanted to ask when you're finally talking to someone.

Washington ESD really needs to hire more phone staff. It's 2025 and we still can't get through to unemployment offices. Ridiculous.

•The whole system needs an overhaul. Thank god for services like Claimyr that actually work.

•True, at least there are workarounds now. Still shouldn't be necessary though.
