When does Washington ESD unemployment office close for the day?
I've been trying to call Washington ESD all week about my pending claim and keep getting busy signals. Does anyone know what time their phone lines actually close? I work until 5pm so I've been trying to call during my lunch break but can never get through. Are there specific hours when it's easier to reach someone at the unemployment office?

Washington ESD customer service is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. They're closed on weekends and state holidays. The phone lines get really busy, especially Monday mornings and right after they open.

•Thanks! So they close at 4pm? That explains why I can't get through during my lunch break. Guess I'll have to take time off work to call them.

•You might have better luck calling right when they open at 8am or later in the afternoon around 3pm. Avoid calling on Mondays if possible - that's when everyone calls.

I've been calling for two weeks straight and it's impossible to get through. The automated system just hangs up on you when they're at capacity. This is ridiculous - how are we supposed to get help with our claims?

•same here! spent 3 hours on redial yesterday and never got through to a human

•Have you tried using the online messaging system? It's slower but at least you can send your question without sitting on hold.

I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I couldn't reach them myself. They handle the calling for you and connect you when an agent is available. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Is that legitimate? Sounds too good to be true. How much does it cost?

•It's totally legit. I was skeptical too but I was desperate. They don't ask for your personal claim info - just help you get connected to an actual person at Washington ESD.

•Anything is better than this endless busy signal nightmare. I'll check it out.

The 4pm closing time is firm but their automated system for filing weekly claims is available 24/7. If you just need to file your weekly claim you can do that online anytime through SecureAccess Washington.

•I already filed my weekly claim but my payment is stuck in adjudication. That's why I need to talk to someone - the online system can't help with that.

•Adjudication issues definitely require speaking to a human. The automated system can't resolve those unfortunately.

pro tip: if you call exactly at 8:00am and keep hitting redial, you have a better chance. I got through after about 45 minutes of redialing when I called right at opening time

•45 minutes of redialing?? That's insane but I guess I'll try it. Better than never getting through at all.

•I tried that method and it worked for me too. Set aside a whole morning though because even once you get through you might be on hold for another hour.

Why don't they just expand their hours? Other states have unemployment offices open until 6 or 7pm. Washington ESD closing at 4pm is ridiculous for working people.

•EXACTLY! How are people supposed to get help if they work normal business hours? The whole system is broken.

•They have been talking about expanding hours but nothing has changed yet. Budget constraints they say.

I work nights so I can call during regular hours but even then it's a nightmare. Last week I called 47 times before giving up. The system is completely overwhelmed.

•47 times?! That's dedication. I would have given up after 10.

•When you need your unemployment benefits to pay rent, you keep trying. But it shouldn't be this hard.

The Washington ESD website has a callback feature where you can request them to call you back, but I've been waiting 3 days and no call yet. Has anyone had success with that?

•I requested a callback last month and never heard back. I think they're too backed up to use that feature effectively.

•The callback system is pretty unreliable. That's why I ended up using Claimyr - at least I knew I'd actually get connected to someone.

Does anyone know if the hours are different for different types of issues? Like do they have separate lines for new claims vs existing claim problems?

•It's all the same customer service line. They route you to the right department once you get through, but the main number has the same 8am-4pm hours.

•That makes sense. I was hoping maybe there was a direct line for adjudication issues but guess not.

I finally got through last week using the Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Took about 30 minutes and they connected me to an agent who was able to check my claim status immediately. Much better than the endless busy signals.

•Okay I'm definitely going to try that service. This is getting ridiculous.

remember they're closed on state holidays too. I wasted a whole morning trying to call on Presidents Day before I realized they were closed lol

•Good point! I should check the holiday schedule before burning vacation time to call them.

The 4pm cutoff is strict. I called at 4:02pm once and the automated message already said they were closed. Don't waste your time calling after 4.

•Yep, they don't mess around with that closing time. I learned that the hard way too.

For anyone still having trouble getting through - I tried calling at 3:30pm yesterday and actually got through in about 20 minutes. Late afternoon might be better than morning rush.

•That's helpful! I'll try calling later in the day next time instead of during lunch.

•Good tip! I always assumed mornings were better but maybe everyone else thinks that too.

The fact that we're all sharing strategies to get through to a government office that's supposed to help us is pretty sad. The system needs major improvement.

•Couldn't agree more. We shouldn't need third-party services just to talk to someone about our unemployment claims.

Cass Green
•True, but until they fix the system, at least there are workarounds available. Claimyr definitely saved me a lot of frustration.
