How to change unemployment direct deposit for Washington ESD payments?
I need to update my direct deposit information for my Washington ESD unemployment benefits but I'm having trouble figuring out where to do this in their system. My bank account changed last month and I don't want my payments going to the wrong place. I've been looking through my SecureAccess Washington account but can't find a clear option to update my banking info. Has anyone done this recently? Is there a specific form I need to fill out or can I do it online?

You can update your direct deposit through your SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account. Log in and look for 'Payment Options' or 'Direct Deposit' under your account settings. You'll need your new bank's routing number and your account number. Make sure to verify the numbers are correct before submitting.

•Thanks! I'll look for that section. Do you know if there's a delay before the new account takes effect?

•Usually takes 1-2 weeks to process. I'd recommend making the change right after you file your weekly claim so you don't miss a payment cycle.

I tried doing this online last month and it was confusing. The website kept timing out when I tried to save my new bank info. Ended up having to call Washington ESD directly.

•Oh no, did you have trouble getting through to them on the phone?

•Yeah it was a nightmare. Spent hours on hold and kept getting disconnected. Eventually I found this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual agent. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•That sounds helpful! I'll check it out if the online method doesn't work for me.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you update your direct deposit BEFORE your next payment is processed. If Washington ESD tries to send money to a closed account, it can create a whole mess of paperwork to get it sorted out. I learned this the hard way when I switched banks.

•What happens if they send it to the wrong account? Do you have to wait for them to get the money back?

•Yeah, the bank returns the payment to Washington ESD and then you have to contact them to get it reissued. Can take weeks to resolve.

•Yikes, definitely want to avoid that situation!

•I think there's a specific form called 'Direct Deposit Authorization' or something like that. You might be able to download it from the Washington ESD website if the online system isn't working.

•yeah that sounds right. you can probably mail it in or fax it if needed

Just went through this process myself! Here's exactly what I did: 1) Log into SecureAccess Washington 2) Click on 'eServices' 3) Look for 'Update Payment Method' 4) Enter your new routing and account numbers 5) Submit and print the confirmation page. The whole thing took maybe 5 minutes.

•Perfect, thank you for the step-by-step! That's exactly what I needed.

•Did you have to verify the account somehow or was it instant?

•No verification needed on my end. They just updated it in their system. My next payment went to the new account without any issues.

Be careful with the routing number! I accidentally used the wrong one (confused my bank's wire transfer routing with the ACH routing) and it caused my payment to bounce. Had to call and fix it.

•Good point! I'll double-check with my bank to make sure I have the right numbers.

•Most banks have the ACH routing number printed on your checks. That's usually the one you need for direct deposit.

Update: I finally got my direct deposit changed after using that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier. The agent walked me through the whole process over the phone. Definitely worth it if you can't figure out the online system.

•How much did that cost? Seems like something you should be able to do yourself.

•It was worth it for me since I'd already wasted hours trying to call on my own. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person who knows the system.

I had issues with this too. The Washington ESD website said my direct deposit was updated but payments kept going to my old account. Turns out there was some kind of glitch in their system.

Malik Thomas
•How did you get that resolved?

•Had to call and have them manually update it in their system. The online change didn't actually go through even though it said it did.

•This is why I always recommend calling to confirm any changes, even if you do them online first.

Pro tip: If you're changing banks, don't close your old account until you confirm the new direct deposit is working. Keep it open for at least one payment cycle just in case.

•That's smart advice. I was planning to close my old account next week but I'll wait now.

•yeah i made that mistake once. had to scramble to reopen the old account when the payment bounced

Does anyone know if you can set up direct deposit to go to a prepaid card instead of a regular bank account? My situation is complicated and I don't have a traditional checking account right now.

Freya Larsen
•I believe Washington ESD allows deposits to prepaid debit cards as long as they have routing and account numbers like a regular bank account. Check with your card provider to get those numbers.

•Thanks, I'll contact my card company to see if that's an option.

Just a heads up - if you're having trouble with the online system, try using a different browser or clearing your cache. The Washington ESD website can be finicky sometimes.

•Yeah, I always use Chrome when dealing with government websites. Seems to work better than other browsers.

Why is everything with Washington ESD so complicated? Changing direct deposit should be a simple 2-minute process but they make it like solving a puzzle.

•Right? My bank lets me change everything instantly through their app but Washington ESD acts like it's 1995.

For what it's worth, I changed mine online about 6 months ago and it worked fine. Maybe they've improved the system since some of you had issues?

•That's encouraging! I'll definitely try the online method first.

•Could be. My issue was over a year ago so maybe they fixed whatever bug I encountered.

Remember to keep documentation of when you made the change. Screenshot the confirmation page if you do it online, or keep copies if you mail in forms. Always good to have proof in case something goes wrong.

Quick question - do you need to notify Washington ESD if you're just changing banks but keeping the same account type (checking to checking)? Or is the direct deposit update enough?
0 coins
Isabella Oliveira
•Just updating the direct deposit information should be sufficient. They don't need to know why you're changing banks, just where to send the money.

•Perfect, thanks for clarifying that.

Has anyone tried using Claimyr for this kind of issue? I keep seeing it mentioned but wondering if it's actually helpful or just another service trying to make money off people's problems.

•I used it and it worked great for me. Got through to an agent in minutes instead of hours. Check out their demo video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ

Whatever you do, don't wait until right before your payment is due to make changes. I tried to update mine the day before my weekly claim was processed and it caused all sorts of confusion.

•Good point. I'll make the change this week so there's plenty of time before my next payment.

Just wanted to add that if you're switching from one account to another at the same bank, the process is usually faster since it's all internal to their system.

Malik Thomas
•Unfortunately I'm switching to a completely different bank, so I'll need to go through the full process.

•No worries, just follow the steps others outlined and you should be fine. Just takes a little longer to process.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful information! I'm going to try the online method first and if that doesn't work, I'll look into calling or using one of those services mentioned. Really appreciate this community helping each other out.

I just went through this process last week and wanted to share what worked for me. First, try the online method through SecureAccess Washington like others mentioned - it's under eServices > Payment Options. If that doesn't work, don't waste hours on hold calling the main number. I used a callback service that got me connected to an agent in about 15 minutes instead of waiting for hours. The agent was able to update my banking info immediately and confirmed it would take effect with my next payment. Also, make sure you have a voided check or bank letter with you - they might ask for verification of the account details.

Jason Brewer
•That's really helpful advice about having a voided check ready! I didn't think about them potentially asking for verification. What callback service did you use? Was it similar to the Claimyr one that others mentioned?

Amara Okafor
•Yes, it was actually Claimyr that I used! They have this system where you enter your info and they call you back when they get through to an agent instead of you sitting on hold. Really saved me a lot of time and frustration. The agent walked me through everything step by step and made sure the change went through properly in their system. Definitely worth checking out if the online method gives you trouble.

I just updated my direct deposit last month and it was actually pretty straightforward once I found the right section. In your SecureAccess Washington account, look for "eServices" then "Payment Information" or "Direct Deposit" - the exact wording might vary but it's definitely there. One tip that helped me: make sure you're using your bank's ACH routing number (usually the same one on your checks) not the wire transfer routing number. Also, I'd recommend making the change right after you file your weekly claim so there's time for it to process before your next payment. The system gave me a confirmation number that I screenshotted just in case. Good luck!

•Thanks for the detailed walkthrough! The confirmation number tip is really smart - I always forget to save proof when doing things online. Quick question: did you notice any delay between when you made the change and when it actually showed up as updated in your account? I want to make sure I can verify it went through properly before my next payment date.

I'm in the same boat and really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences! Just to add another data point - I successfully changed my direct deposit through the SecureAccess Washington online system about 3 weeks ago. The key was using Chrome browser and making sure I had a stable internet connection. The process took about 10 minutes total. I found it under eServices > "Update Payment Method" just like Diego mentioned. One thing I'll add is that I got an email confirmation within 24 hours saying the change was processed, and my next payment went to the new account without any issues. The timing worked out perfectly since I made the change right after filing my weekly claim. For anyone still struggling with the online system, definitely try different browsers or clear your cache first before resorting to calling - it might save you a lot of time!

•This is super helpful! I'm definitely going to try the Chrome browser suggestion first since I was using Safari when I had issues earlier. The email confirmation detail is reassuring too - I'll know within a day if it actually went through. Thanks for sharing your successful experience, it gives me confidence that the online system does work when you have the right setup!
