What bank does Washington ESD unemployment use for direct deposit?
I'm setting up direct deposit for my unemployment benefits and want to make sure I have the right banking info. Does Washington ESD use a specific bank for processing unemployment payments? I'm worried about delays if I mess up the routing numbers or account details. My claim was just approved after weeks of adjudication and I really don't want any issues with getting paid.

Washington ESD uses KeyBank for processing unemployment benefit payments. The routing number should be automatically handled when you set up direct deposit through your SecureAccess Washington account. Just make sure your bank account info is correct.

•Thanks! Do I need to do anything special with my bank or will they recognize it's from KeyBank automatically?

•Your bank should process it normally. The deposit will show as coming from WA STATE ESD or something similar on your statement.

•Same here! The SAW website is not user friendly at all. Took me three tries to get my banking info entered correctly.

•At least you guys figured it out. I'm still getting paper checks because I can't get the direct deposit to work.

If you're having trouble with direct deposit setup or need to verify your payment processing, I actually found this service called Claimyr that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents quickly. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Really helpful when you need to talk to someone about payment issues.

•Never heard of that before. Is it legit? I've been trying to call Washington ESD for days about my direct deposit setup.

•Yeah it's real. I used it last month when my payments got messed up. Way better than sitting on hold for hours or getting disconnected.

•Hmm sounds too good to be true but I might check it out. Getting through to Washington ESD is basically impossible these days.

KeyBank is correct for Washington state unemployment. Been getting my benefits through them for months now. Usually takes 1-2 business days to hit your account after Washington ESD processes the payment. Make sure you don't have any holds or restrictions on your bank account that might block government deposits.

•Good point about account restrictions. I should probably call my credit union to make sure they won't flag it as suspicious.

•Definitely do that. Some smaller banks and credit unions get weird about large government deposits if they're not expecting them.

Why does everything with unemployment have to be so complicated? You'd think they could just tell you upfront what bank they use instead of making us guess.

•Right?? The whole Washington ESD system feels like it was designed to make things as difficult as possible.

•I swear they do it on purpose to discourage people from filing claims. The bureaucracy is insane.

For anyone still confused about the banking setup - when you log into your Washington ESD account through SecureAccess Washington, go to Payment Options and select Direct Deposit. You'll enter YOUR bank's routing number and YOUR account number. Washington ESD handles the KeyBank processing part automatically on their end.

•Ohhhh that makes more sense. I was trying to figure out if I needed KeyBank's routing number or something. Thanks for clarifying!

•This is exactly what I needed to know. I was so confused about whether I needed to open a KeyBank account or something.

•Nope, keep your regular bank account. KeyBank is just the processor that Washington ESD uses behind the scenes.

quick question - does the KeyBank processing add any delays? my friend in oregon gets her unemployment the same day it processes but mine always takes 2 days

•Different states have different processing systems. Washington ESD processes payments on specific days of the week, usually Tuesday through Thursday depending on your claim type.

•Yeah and it depends on your bank too. Bigger banks like Chase or Wells Fargo usually process faster than smaller credit unions.

I had issues with my direct deposit for weeks and couldn't get through to anyone at Washington ESD to fix it. Finally used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and got connected to an agent in like 10 minutes. They fixed my banking info over the phone and my next payment went through fine.

•Really? I'm dealing with the same thing right now. My direct deposit just stopped working for some reason.

•Yeah check out their demo video, it shows exactly how it works. Way better than trying to call the regular Washington ESD number.

PSA for anyone setting up direct deposit - make sure you're entering your account info in the right fields. I accidentally put my account number where the routing number goes and it took 3 weeks to figure out why my payments weren't showing up.

Donna Cline
•Oh no! Did you have to file for back payments or did they automatically fix it once you corrected the banking info?

Tasia Synder
•They automatically reprocessed the missed payments once I fixed the account info. But those 3 weeks without money were rough.

•This is my biggest fear. I've triple checked my account numbers but still nervous about messing it up.

Does anyone know if you can change your direct deposit info after it's set up? I'm switching banks next month and don't want to mess up my unemployment payments.

•Yes, you can change it anytime through your SecureAccess Washington account. Just update it before your old account closes to avoid any payment issues.

•I'd do it at least a week before your old account closes, just to be safe. Give Washington ESD time to process the change.

Just want to add that if you're having trouble with the Washington ESD website or need to verify your payment setup, that Claimyr thing actually works. I was skeptical at first but it really does help you get through to agents faster than calling the regular way.

•How much does it cost? I'm barely getting by on unemployment as it is.

•I don't want to get into specifics but it's definitely worth it when you need to resolve payment issues quickly. Check their website for details.

anyone else notice their unemployment deposits come at weird times? sometimes i get it tuesday morning, sometimes thursday afternoon. is that normal with the keybank processing?
0 coins
Sydney Torres
•That's normal. Washington ESD processes payments in batches throughout the week. The exact timing depends on when you filed your weekly claim and what type of benefits you're getting.

•Mine used to be consistent on Wednesdays but now it's all over the place too. I think they changed something in their system recently.

This thread has been super helpful! I was worried I was doing something wrong with my direct deposit setup. Good to know KeyBank is handling everything correctly on Washington ESD's end.

One tip I learned the hard way - make sure to double check that your bank account is actually set up to receive ACH transfers. I had my direct deposit info entered correctly in the Washington ESD system but my small local bank had some restriction that blocked the KeyBank deposits. Had to call my bank and specifically request ACH transfers be enabled for government payments. Cost me two weeks of delayed payments while I figured that out!

•That's a great point about ACH transfers! I never would have thought to check that with my bank. Did you have to do anything special to enable it or was it just a simple request?

•I had a similar issue with my credit union! They required me to fill out a form specifically authorizing government ACH deposits. It was pretty straightforward once I knew what to ask for, but like you said, it delayed my payments while I figured it out. Definitely worth calling your bank ahead of time to make sure everything is set up properly.
