How long after winning Washington ESD unemployment appeal do I get payment?
Won my unemployment appeal hearing last Thursday and the judge ruled in my favor. Washington ESD disqualified me back in September for supposedly quitting without good cause but I had medical documentation showing I left due to workplace harassment affecting my health. The hearing officer agreed with me and overturned the disqualification. My question is - how long does it take for Washington ESD to actually process the appeal decision and release my back pay? I'm owed about 12 weeks of benefits and really need this money ASAP. Has anyone been through this process recently?

Congratulations on winning your appeal! From my experience, it typically takes 2-3 weeks for Washington ESD to process the appeal decision and issue back payments. The system has to recalculate all your missed weekly claims and update your account status. You should see the payments start appearing in your account within that timeframe.

•Thanks! 2-3 weeks sounds reasonable. I was worried it might take months like the original adjudication did.

•That's about right. I won my appeal in November and got my back pay exactly 18 days later. All came in one lump sum.

You'll want to keep filing your weekly claims during this waiting period even though you won the appeal. Washington ESD still requires you to maintain your claim while they process the decision. Also check your online account regularly - sometimes the back pay shows up before they send any notification.

•Good point about continuing to file weekly claims. I wasn't sure if I needed to do that since the appeal was already decided.

•Definitely keep filing! I made that mistake once and it caused additional delays in getting my benefits reinstated.

I've been waiting 6 weeks since my appeal decision and still haven't gotten paid. Washington ESD is absolutely useless when it comes to actually implementing their own decisions. I've called probably 50 times and can never get through to speak with anyone who can help.

•6 weeks is way too long. There might be an issue with your claim that needs manual review. Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to an actual Washington ESD agent? Check out claimyr.com - they have a service that gets you connected without the endless hold times.

•Never heard of Claimyr before. Is it legit? I'm desperate at this point and will try anything to get my money.

•Yeah it's totally legitimate. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows exactly how it works. Basically they handle the calling and waiting for you.

The back pay should include all the weeks you were disqualified plus any waiting week if applicable. Make sure to double-check the calculation when you receive it. Sometimes there are errors in how they calculate the retroactive payments.

•Good advice. I'll definitely verify the amounts when they come through. I have all my documentation saved.

omg i'm so jealous you won your appeal!! i lost mine last month and now i'm broke and dont know what to do. the judge said my documentation wasn't enough even though i had doctors notes about my anxiety

•You might be able to appeal to the Board of Review if you believe the judge made an error. There's a specific timeframe for that though, so look into it quickly.

I won my appeal in January and it took exactly 16 days to get paid. The back pay came as separate deposits for each week I was owed. Washington ESD also sent a letter explaining the payment breakdown. Just be patient - it will come through.

•That's reassuring to hear! 16 days isn't too bad. Did you have to do anything special or did it just automatically process?

Connor Murphy
•It processed automatically. I just kept checking my account online every few days and one morning all the payments were there.

Make sure your direct deposit information is still current in your Washington ESD account. If they try to send payments to an old bank account it will cause delays while they sort it out.

•Good catch! I did change banks recently. Let me log in and update that info right now.

The appeal process is such a nightmare but at least you made it through successfully. I'm currently waiting for my hearing date and it's been 3 months since I requested it. Did you have a lawyer represent you?

Dylan Wright
•No lawyer, I represented myself. The key was having all my medical documentation organized and ready to present. The harassment was well-documented through emails and my doctor's notes supported my claim.

Ava Rodriguez
•That gives me hope. I'm also representing myself and have been worried about going up against Washington ESD alone.

Two weeks is pretty standard but I've seen it take up to a month in some cases. Depends on how backed up they are. The important thing is you won - that's the hard part!

•True, winning the appeal was definitely the biggest hurdle. Now I just need to be patient for the money to actually show up.

I had a similar situation where I won my appeal but then Washington ESD said there were other issues with my claim that needed to be reviewed. Ended up taking 2 months total to get everything sorted out. Hope yours goes smoother!

•Oh no, that's my worst fear! What kind of other issues did they find? I thought winning the appeal would be the end of it.

•They questioned my job search activities from the period when I was disqualified. Even though I won the appeal, they still wanted documentation of my work search efforts. It was ridiculous.

Check if you're eligible for any interest on the delayed payments. Sometimes when appeals take a long time to resolve, there's additional compensation for the delay.

Dylan Wright
•Interesting, I hadn't thought about that. I'll look into whether Washington ESD pays interest on delayed appeal payments.

The system is so broken. I know people who have been waiting months after winning appeals. Meanwhile people who never should have gotten benefits in the first place are getting paid immediately. Makes no sense.

•I feel you on the frustration but complaining about other people getting benefits doesn't help anyone. The system has problems but most people receiving benefits actually qualify for them.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on your payment status, try Claimyr. A friend of mine used it last month and was able to speak with someone immediately instead of waiting on hold for hours.

•Another vote for Claimyr! Seems like it might be worth trying if I don't hear anything in the next week or two.

won my appeal in december and got paid within 10 days. was shocked how fast it was compared to everything else with unemployment. maybe they're getting better at processing these things

•10 days would be amazing! Fingers crossed mine processes that quickly too.

Make sure to save all your documentation from the appeal hearing. Sometimes Washington ESD will ask for it again even after you've won. The bureaucracy there is unbelievable.

•Already have everything saved and organized. Learned my lesson about keeping detailed records through this whole process.

I used to work at Washington ESD and can tell you that appeal decisions go through multiple levels of review before payments are released. That's why it takes 2-3 weeks minimum. The good news is once it's processed, all your back pay comes at once usually within 24-48 hours.

Dylan Wright
•That's really helpful insider information! Good to know there's a logical reason for the delay and that it will come through all at once.

•Do you know if there's any way to expedite the process? Like if someone is facing eviction or something urgent?

•There are hardship provisions but they're rarely used and require supervisor approval. Your best bet is just to wait it out unfortunately.

Congratulations on your win! The waiting is the worst part but at least you know the money is coming. I'm still fighting my disqualification and seeing success stories like yours gives me hope.

If you need to reach Washington ESD to check on your payment status, I highly recommend trying Claimyr. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked - got through to a real person who could give me an update on when my appeal payment would be processed. Much better than calling the regular number and getting hung up on.

The whole appeal process is designed to discourage people from fighting disqualifications. Good for you for sticking with it and getting justice. Hope your payment comes through quickly!

Dylan Wright
•You're absolutely right about it being designed to discourage people. The amount of paperwork and time it takes is ridiculous. But it was worth fighting for what I was entitled to.

I went through something very similar last year - won my appeal for a voluntary quit disqualification and it took about 3 weeks to get my back pay. The waiting is nerve-wracking but from what I've seen, Washington ESD is generally pretty good about processing appeal reversals once they get through their internal review process. Keep filing your weekly claims like others mentioned, and definitely double-check that your direct deposit info is current. You should see all 12 weeks hit your account at once when it processes. Hang in there!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same situation. 3 weeks seems to be the consensus from most people here. I'm definitely going to make sure I keep filing weekly claims and have my direct deposit updated. The thought of getting all 12 weeks at once is pretty exciting after being broke for months! Did you get any notification when the payment was processed or did it just show up in your account?

•I just got my direct deposit info updated and you're right about filing the weekly claims - almost forgot about that! Really hoping it's closer to the 2-3 week timeframe everyone's mentioning rather than some of the horror stories about months of waiting. Did you have to do anything special to track the progress or did you just wait it out?
