Washington ESD unemployment appeal was reversed when do I get paid?
My unemployment appeal hearing was last Thursday and I just got the decision today saying it was reversed in my favor! Washington ESD originally denied my claim back in September saying I quit voluntarily but the judge agreed that I was actually constructively discharged due to unsafe working conditions. Now I'm wondering how long it takes to actually get the backpay? The decision letter doesn't give any timeline for when payments will start. Has anyone been through this process before?

Congratulations on winning your appeal! Usually takes 1-2 weeks for the payments to process after a reversal. Washington ESD has to update your claim in their system and calculate all the back weeks you're owed.

Congratulations on winning your appeal! From what I understand, it can take 2-4 weeks for Washington ESD to process the payment after a favorable appeal decision. They have to update your claim in their system and calculate all the back pay.

Congrats on winning your appeal! From what I remember when mine was reversed, it took about 2-3 weeks for the first payment to hit my account. They had to recalculate everything and process all the back weeks.

•Mine came as one big payment covering all the weeks I should have been paid, then regular weekly payments started after that.

Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims during this waiting period. Even though the appeal is resolved, you still need to maintain your claim to continue receiving benefits going forward.

You should call Washington ESD to confirm they received the appeal decision and ask about the status. Sometimes there can be delays if they're waiting for additional documentation or if there are system issues.

You should see the money within 10-15 business days typically. Washington ESD has to process the reversal through their system and recalculate your benefit amount for each week you were denied. Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the back pay to process.

•I've been continuing to file weekly claims the whole time, even during the appeal process. Good to know about the 10-15 day timeframe.

I had a similar situation last year and honestly the hardest part was just getting through to someone at Washington ESD to check on the status. I kept calling but could never get past the busy signal. Eventually found this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual agent who could tell me exactly where my payment was in the system. Might be worth checking out claimyr.com if you need to talk to someone about your timeline.

You'll need to keep filing your weekly claims even though you haven't been getting paid during the appeal process. Washington ESD should process all the backpay for the weeks you were eligible but not paid. Usually takes 2-4 weeks after the appeal decision for the system to update and release payments.

I went through this exact same situation last year. After my appeal was reversed, I had to wait about 3 weeks before I saw any money. The backpay process is pretty straightforward once the appeal decision is entered into the system. Washington ESD has to update your claim status, recalculate all your eligible weeks, and then process the payments. This usually happens within 10-15 business days of the appeal decision date.
0 coins
Dmitry Volkov
•That's more specific than what I got from the decision letter. Do you know if they pay interest on the delayed payments?

•Thanks for that advice. I'm documenting everything for my upcoming hearing.

Just want to mention again that if anyone needs to actually speak with Washington ESD about their appeal or payment status, Claimyr has been a lifesaver for me. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person instead of guessing about timelines online.

•I might give that a try if I don't see my payment by next week. Thanks for sharing that resource.

•Will do! Hopefully it'll be soon and I can share some good news.

Great to hear you got confirmation on the timeline. Two weeks is pretty typical for appeal reversals. The system has to go through several steps: updating your claim status, recalculating benefit amounts, processing all the backdated weekly claims, and then issuing payments.

•The agent mentioned something about a 'mass adjustment' process. Do you know what that means?

Zainab Omar
•That's when they process multiple weeks of benefits at once rather than individually. It's faster but can sometimes cause temporary display issues in your account while it's processing.

been there done that with the appeal process. once you win just be patient, the money will come. took me about 3 weeks but i got every penny i was owed going back 4 months

•That's reassuring. Were there any issues with the amount or did it calculate correctly?

•all correct in my case. washington esd may be slow but their computers are pretty good at the math once they get going

So I looked into the appeal thing more and found my paperwork. Turns out I still have a few days left to file. Thanks for the heads up about the 30 day deadline!

•Great! Make sure you provide detailed documentation about your job search activities. Keep copies of everything you submit.

•Yeah I've been keeping better records now. Lesson learned the hard way.

Constructive discharge cases can be tricky but sounds like you had good documentation. What kind of unsafe conditions were you dealing with if you don't mind sharing?

•It was a manufacturing job where they weren't following OSHA safety protocols. I reported it multiple times and they basically retaliated by making my work environment hostile until I had to leave.

•Classic constructive discharge situation. Good thing you documented the safety reports and retaliation. That probably made your case much stronger.

The 2-4 week timeline sounds about right based on what I've seen. Washington ESD has gotten better at processing appeals quickly but the payment system still takes time to catch up once the decision is made.

•At least now I have a realistic timeframe instead of just wondering and worrying.

•Exactly. The unknown waiting is the worst part of this whole process.

Make sure you check your claim status online regularly during this period. Sometimes there are additional steps required that they don't always communicate clearly.

•Good advice. I'll keep logging in to check for any new notices or requirements.

•Yeah, I learned that the hard way when I missed a verification requirement that delayed my payments by another week.

Won my appeal last year and the backpay was definitely life-changing after months of financial stress. Hang in there, you're almost at the finish line!

UPDATE: Used Claimyr myself and finally got through to Washington ESD about my own claim issues. Took about 30 minutes but way better than the weeks I've been trying to call on my own. Worth every penny.

Just want to add that if anyone else is waiting on appeal payments, don't forget to keep doing your work search requirements during this period. I know it seems pointless but Washington ESD can still audit those weeks even after the appeal is resolved.

•Good point. I've been keeping up with my job searches but definitely felt like I was going through the motions while fighting the appeal.

•Yeah it feels weird but better safe than sorry. You don't want them finding another reason to hold up your payments.

Congrats on the appeal win! It takes guts to fight Washington ESD when you're already stressed about money and job hunting. Hopefully your experience helps other people realize they have options when they get wrongfully denied.

•Thanks! Honestly I almost gave up several times but I knew I was right and couldn't afford to just walk away from months of benefits.

•That's exactly the right attitude. Too many people just accept the initial denial and don't realize they can fight it.

Congrats on winning your appeal! I went through something similar last year with a wrongful termination case. The wait for backpay after getting the favorable decision is nerve-wracking, but from what I experienced, Washington ESD usually processes appeal reversals within 2-3 weeks. The hardest part is behind you now - actually winning the hearing. The payment processing is just bureaucratic delays at this point. Keep filing your weekly claims and checking your SecureAccess Washington account regularly. You should see the payment status change before the money actually hits your bank account. Hang in there!
