How do you know if you were approved for unemployment by Washington ESD?
I filed my unemployment claim with Washington ESD about two weeks ago and I'm getting anxious about whether I was approved or not. My account on eServices just shows 'Pending' status and I haven't received any letters or emails yet. I did my weekly claim filing last Sunday but I'm not sure if that means anything. How do you actually know if Washington ESD approved your claim? Do they send you something official or does it just show up in your account? I'm worried I might have missed something important.

You'll get an official determination letter from Washington ESD either by mail or in your eServices account under 'Correspondence'. It usually takes 1-3 weeks after filing. The letter will say if you're approved, your weekly benefit amount, and when your benefits start. Until then, keep filing your weekly claims even if it shows pending.

•Thanks! Should I be checking my eServices account daily or just wait for the letter?

•Check both your eServices correspondence section and your regular mail. Sometimes one comes before the other.

•The phone system is definitely overloaded. I had success using Claimyr to get through to an actual agent. It's at claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Saved me hours of calling.

•never heard of that before, does it actually work? im desperate at this point

•Yes, it worked for me last month. They handle the calling and wait time, then connect you when an agent picks up. Way better than sitting on hold for 3 hours.

Two weeks is actually pretty normal processing time. I got my determination letter on day 16. Keep filing your weekly claims though - that's crucial even while pending. If you're approved, you'll get backpay for those weeks.

•That's reassuring, thanks. I was worried I did something wrong since I haven't heard anything yet.

OMG I'm in the same boat! Filed 3 weeks ago and still nothing. I keep refreshing my account like every hour hoping something changes. This waiting is killing me financially.

•I feel you. The uncertainty is the worst part. At least we're not alone in this.

•If it's been 3 weeks with no determination letter, you might want to call Washington ESD to check if they need additional information from you.

Check your eServices account under 'Payment History' too. Sometimes payments show up there before you get the official letter. Also look for any 'Adjudication' notices which might mean they need more info from you or your employer.

•I don't see any adjudication notices, just the pending status. Is that good or bad?

Sophie Footman
•No adjudication is usually good - means it's just normal processing. Adjudication adds extra time because they need to investigate something.

•what does adjudication even mean? im so confused by all this unemployment terminology

Owen Devar
Adjudication means Washington ESD needs to investigate your claim before approving it. This happens if there are questions about why you lost your job, availability for work, or if your employer contests the claim. It can add 2-6 weeks to processing time.

•oh no, mine shows adjudication in progress. does that mean im probably getting denied?

Owen Devar
•Not necessarily! Adjudication just means they're doing their due diligence. Many claims in adjudication still get approved.

The system is so confusing. I got approved but it took almost a month because they had to verify my identity first. Washington ESD sent me a letter asking for documents, then another week after I submitted them.

•What kind of documents did they ask for? I'm worried they might ask me for stuff I don't have.

•Driver's license, Social Security card, and my last pay stub. Pretty standard stuff.

Pro tip: enable text and email notifications in your eServices account. I got a text the same day my determination letter was available online, way before the physical letter arrived.

•That's smart! I'll set that up right now.

•how do you set up notifications? i cant find that option anywhere

•Login to eServices, go to 'Manage Account' then 'Communication Preferences'. You can choose text, email, or both.

I've been approved for 4 months now and honestly the hardest part was just waiting for that first determination letter. Once you're in the system, everything becomes more predictable. The weekly claims become routine.

•That gives me hope! What was your weekly benefit amount if you don't mind me asking?

•I get $435 per week, which is based on my previous job's salary. Washington ESD calculates it automatically.

Washington ESD is so slow compared to other states. My friend in Oregon got approved in 5 days. We've been waiting weeks for basic answers.

•Every state has different processing times. Washington actually improved a lot since the pandemic backlog.

•The volume is still really high. I think that's why services like Claimyr exist - to help people actually reach agents when they need help.

Just got my approval letter today after 18 days! $398/week starting next Monday. So relieved. Keep the faith everyone, it does happen.

•Congratulations! That gives me hope. Did you get the letter in the mail or online first?

•Online first, then mail 2 days later. The online version had all the same info.

If you're really worried about your claim status and can't wait, I'd recommend trying Claimyr to get through to Washington ESD directly. I used it last week and finally got answers about my pending claim. Much better than the endless busy signals.

•A few people have mentioned Claimyr now. Is it worth it just to check status?

Rebecca Johnston
•For peace of mind, absolutely. The agent I spoke with could see exactly where my claim was in processing and what was holding it up.

The determination letter will tell you everything - if you're approved, your weekly benefit amount, how long your benefits last, and when to expect your first payment. Usually comes 2-3 weeks after filing.

Don't forget you can also check your claim status by calling the automated line at 1-800-318-6022. It's not perfect but sometimes gives you a bit more info than the website.
0 coins
Brooklyn Knight
•I tried that but it just says 'claim is being processed' which isn't much help.

Amaya Watson
•Yeah the automated system is pretty basic. Real agents have much more detailed info.

The approval process can feel like forever when you're waiting. I remember checking my account constantly. Now I tell everyone - file your weekly claims religiously and try not to stress too much about the timeline.

•Thanks for the reassurance. I'm definitely filing weekly claims even though nothing's been approved yet.

•Smart move. Those weekly claims are like your place in line - don't lose your spot.
