How do I tell if my Washington ESD unemployment claim got approved?
Filed my unemployment claim with Washington ESD about 10 days ago and I'm starting to wonder if I got approved or not? I can log into my SecureAccess Washington account but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. The status just says 'processed' but does that mean approved? I haven't gotten any mail or emails saying yes or no. Should I have heard something by now? Really need to know because rent is due next week and I'm counting on this.

Check your 'Claim Summary' section in your online account. If you're approved, you'll see your weekly benefit amount listed there along with your claim balance. 'Processed' usually means they've made a decision on your claim.

•Thanks! I see it shows $347 weekly benefit amount. Does that mean I'm approved then?

•Yes, if you see a weekly benefit amount, your claim was approved. You should also see your total claim balance which is usually 26 times your weekly amount.

You should also get a determination letter in the mail within a few days explaining your approval and benefit amount. Sometimes the online system updates before the letter arrives.

•Good to know! I was worried I missed something important.

•Yeah the mail can be slow. I got my online approval notification 3 days before the letter showed up.

If you're having trouble figuring out your claim status or need to talk to someone at Washington ESD, I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to an agent. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Saved me hours of trying to call myself.

•How much does that cost? I've been trying to call Washington ESD for days with no luck.

•It's worth it to avoid the phone tag nightmare. Way easier than spending all day redialing.

•Might look into that if I run into issues. Thanks for the tip!

Make sure you file your weekly claims even if you're not 100% sure about your approval status. You can't get retroactive payments for weeks you don't file, and it's better to file and get denied than miss out on benefits you're entitled to.

•Good point! I wasn't sure if I should file my weekly claim yet but I'll do it today.

•Definitely file every week. I made that mistake early on and lost out on 2 weeks of benefits because I thought I had to wait for something.

the online system is confusing as hell tbh. took me forever to figure out where everything was

•Right? It's not very user friendly. I'm still learning where everything is.

•The interface could definitely be better designed. Once you know where to look it's easier though.

If your claim shows 'processed' and you see a benefit amount, you're good. The determination letter will have all the details about your approval including how long your benefits last and what your job search requirements are.

•What are the job search requirements? I haven't seen anything about that yet.

•You'll need to apply for at least 3 jobs per week and keep a log of your job search activities. The letter will explain everything.

•Make sure you keep good records of your job applications. Washington ESD can ask to see your job search log at any time.

Sometimes there's a delay between approval and when you actually receive your first payment. Don't panic if it takes a few days after filing your first weekly claim.

Nathan Kim
•How long does the first payment usually take?

Molly Chambers
•Usually 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim, but it can be longer if there are any issues.

Check if you have any 'pending issues' listed in your account. Even if you're approved, sometimes there are additional requirements or verifications needed before payments start.

Nathan Kim
•I don't see anything under pending issues, so I think I'm all set.

Ian Armstrong
•That's good! Means your claim is straightforward and shouldn't have any payment delays.

Just went through this same confusion last month. If you see your weekly benefit amount listed, you're approved. The determination letter is just the official paperwork confirming what's already in your online account.

•That's reassuring! I was overthinking it.

•Yeah the online system shows your status in real time. The mail is just backup documentation.

One thing to watch out for - make sure your direct deposit info is correct if you set that up. I had to wait an extra week for my first payment because my bank routing number was wrong.

Nathan Kim
•Good catch! I should double check that. Where do I verify my direct deposit info?

Lydia Bailey
•Should be under 'Payment Method' or 'Direct Deposit' in your account settings. Better to fix it now than deal with payment delays later.

For what it's worth, I had to call Washington ESD to confirm my approval status because I was getting mixed signals from the website. Used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and actually got through to a real person who walked me through everything. Made me feel a lot better about the whole process.

•That's good to know there's a way to actually talk to someone if needed. I'll keep that in mind.

•How long did it take for them to connect you to an agent?

Mateo Warren
•Maybe 15 minutes? Way faster than the hours I spent trying to call directly.

The determination letter will also tell you if you qualify for any additional programs or if there are any restrictions on your benefits. It's worth reading through the whole thing when it arrives.

•I'll make sure to read it carefully. Thanks for all the help everyone!

•No problem! The unemployment system can be confusing but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad.

been waiting 3 weeks for my determination letter but my online account shows I'm approved with a benefit amount so I just started filing my weekly claims anyway. got my first payment already so I guess that confirms it

•That's encouraging! Sounds like the online system is more reliable than waiting for mail.

•Yeah I wouldn't wait for the letter. If you can file weekly claims and see a benefit amount, you're good to go.

Don't forget that even after approval, you need to keep certifying your eligibility every week. Miss too many weekly claims and they might close your claim entirely.

Nathan Kim
•How many can you miss before they close it?

•I think it's 4 consecutive weeks but don't quote me on that. Better to just file every week on time.

Eleanor Foster
•It's actually 3 consecutive weeks in Washington. After that you have to reopen your claim which can cause delays.

The Washington ESD website has a FAQ section that explains all the different claim statuses if you want to understand what everything means. Helped me figure out my situation when I was confused.

•I'll check that out. Thanks for the suggestion!
