How to know if you're approved for unemployment - Washington ESD status check

I submitted my unemployment application through Washington ESD about 10 days ago and I'm getting anxious about whether I've been approved or not. I can log into my account but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for to confirm my claim status. The website shows some numbers and dates but nothing that clearly says 'approved' or 'denied.' I've been checking daily but honestly don't know what the different status updates mean. Should I be able to file my first weekly claim by now if I was approved? Really need to know because I'm behind on rent and bills are piling up.

When you log into your Washington ESD account, look for your claim summary page. If you're approved, you should see a weekly benefit amount listed and be able to file weekly claims. The status might say 'Active' or show your next filing date. If it's still showing 'Pending' or 'Under Review' then you're probably still in adjudication.

Thanks! I see a weekly benefit amount of $487 but the status just says 'Filed' - does that mean I'm approved?

Yes, if you can see a weekly benefit amount, that's usually a good sign you've been approved. You should be able to file your first weekly claim soon.

I was in the same boat last month - kept checking obsessively! What finally worked for me was using Claimyr to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD. They have this service at claimyr.com where they call on your behalf and get through to an agent. Saved me hours of trying to call myself. There's even a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

That sounds interesting but is it legit? I'm worried about giving my info to a third party service.

I was skeptical too but they just need basic info to call on your behalf. They don't ask for SSN or anything sensitive. Really helped me get clarity on my claim status.

The key things to look for: 1) Weekly benefit amount showing up, 2) Ability to file weekly claims, 3) No 'adjudication' or 'pending' status flags. Also check if there are any outstanding issues that need to be resolved - those would show up as action items in your account.

What if I can see my benefit amount but can't file weekly claims yet? Does that mean something's wrong?

Not necessarily - there might be a waiting week or your claim effective date hasn't started yet. Check your claim dates carefully.

ugh the washington esd website is so confusing!! i've been approved for 2 weeks now but it took me forever to figure out where to even file my weekly claims. why can't they just send an email saying 'you're approved' like normal companies do??

0 coins

RIGHT?? I spent 3 hours trying to figure out their website layout. So frustrating when you're already stressed about money.

They do send some notifications but they're easy to miss. Check your messages in the secure message center within your account.

If you're really unsure, you can also call the Washington ESD customer service line. Fair warning though - you'll probably be on hold for a while. I tried calling 47 times last week before I got through to someone.

47 times?! That's insane. How long were you on hold when you finally got through?

0 coins

About 2 hours on hold, then 10 minutes with the agent. But they were able to confirm my approval status immediately.

0 coins

This is exactly why I used Claimyr - they handle all that calling and waiting for you. Much easier than spending all day redialing.

Another sign you're approved - you should receive a monetary determination letter either by mail or in your online account. This shows your weekly benefit amount and how long your benefits will last. If you haven't seen this yet, your claim might still be processing.

I haven't gotten any letters yet, just what I can see online. Should I be worried it's taking this long?

10 days isn't too unusual, especially if they need to verify your work history. But definitely keep checking your account daily.

0 coins

Make sure you're also checking for any identity verification requirements. Sometimes your claim gets held up because they need additional documents to prove who you are. These requirements show up as action items in your account.

Yes! This happened to me - I thought I was denied but really they just needed me to upload my driver's license.

Good point - I'll double check for any document requests I might have missed.

The Washington ESD system is honestly a joke. Half the time the website is down when you need it most, and good luck trying to reach anyone by phone. They make it deliberately confusing so fewer people will successfully claim benefits.

I mean, it's definitely not user-friendly but I don't think it's deliberately confusing. The system is just old and overloaded.

Maybe, but the end result is the same - people who desperately need help can't get it.

Quick tip - if you're approved, you should also be able to see your filing schedule (usually weekly on Sundays). This gets updated in your account once everything is processed.

That's helpful - I'll look for that filing schedule info. Thanks!

I just went through this whole process myself. The biggest indicator for me was when I could suddenly access the 'File Weekly Claim' option in my account menu. Before approval, that option wasn't even visible.

Mateo Sanchez

Same here! That menu option appearing was how I knew I was good to go.

0 coins

LunarLegend

•

I think I can see that option now actually. Does that mean I should file this week even though I'm not 100% sure about my status?

0 coins

Nia Wilson

•

If the option is there and you can access it, yes - go ahead and file. The system won't let you file if you're not approved.

Don't forget about the job search requirements too. Once you're approved, you'll need to log your job search activities. Make sure you understand what counts as a valid job search contact.

0 coins

LunarLegend

•

Oh right, I forgot about that part. How many job searches do I need to do each week?

0 coins

Aisha Mahmood

•

It's typically 3 job search activities per week, but check your specific requirements in your account since it can vary.

honestly just keep checking every day until you either see money deposited or get a clear denial letter. the washington esd website doesn't make anything obvious but those are the two definitive outcomes

AstroAce

•

True, but you can file weekly claims before you see money deposited. The first payment usually takes a few extra days to process.

If you're still confused after reading all this, another option is to use a service like Claimyr that I mentioned earlier. They can call Washington ESD for you and get a definitive answer about your claim status. Sometimes it's worth paying for peace of mind when you're this stressed about it.

Yeah, I'm seriously considering it at this point. The uncertainty is killing me and I just need to know one way or another.

I used them too and it was totally worth it. Got an answer within a few hours instead of days of wondering.

One more thing - check your payment method settings. If you're approved but haven't set up direct deposit or a debit card, that could delay things even if your claim is active.

0 coins

LunarLegend

•

Good catch! I think I set up direct deposit but I'll double check that it went through properly.

The waiting is the worst part honestly. I remember checking my account like 10 times a day when I first applied. But once you see that weekly benefit amount and can file claims, you know you're good to go.

Thanks everyone for all the help! I feel much more confident about what to look for now. Really appreciate this community.
