How do I know if I was approved for unemployment Washington ESD claim status?
Filed my unemployment claim with Washington ESD about 10 days ago and I'm not sure how to tell if it got approved or not. I've been checking the website but it just shows my claim is 'pending' and I haven't gotten any mail or emails about it. Should I have heard something by now? Where exactly do I look to see if my claim was approved? I'm getting stressed because I need to know if I should keep looking for work or if I'll have some income coming.

Check your SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account - that's where you'll see your claim status. Log into esd.wa.gov and look for 'Claim Summary' or 'Payment Information' sections. If approved, you should see a weekly benefit amount listed.

•I logged in but it still just says 'pending determination' - does that mean they haven't decided yet?

•Yeah, pending determination means they're still reviewing your claim. It can take 2-3 weeks sometimes, especially if there are any issues with your work history or separation reason.

You should get a determination letter in the mail within 21 days of filing. That will tell you if you're approved or denied and what your weekly benefit amount is. The online portal updates pretty quickly after they make a decision too.

•It's been 10 days - should I be worried that I haven't gotten anything yet?

•No, 10 days is still normal. The 21-day timeframe is their standard, though it can be faster if your case is straightforward.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on your claim status, I recently discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they actually call Washington ESD for you and get you connected to a real person. I was stuck trying to reach them for weeks about my adjudication and this service got me through in like 20 minutes. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Really? That sounds too good to be true. How much does it cost?

•It's way cheaper than the stress and time I was wasting trying to call myself. The video explains everything - definitely worth checking out if you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD.

•I've heard of services like this but wasn't sure if they were legit. Did they actually get you connected to the right department?

•Yeah, they got me straight to someone who could look at my claim. No more sitting on hold for hours just to get disconnected.

When you log into your account look for these specific things: 1) Weekly benefit amount (if it shows a dollar amount you're probably approved) 2) Claim balance (total amount available) 3) Any notices or alerts. If you see 'adjudication in progress' that means they need more info from you or your employer.

•Mine shows $0 for weekly benefit amount - does that mean I'm denied?

LunarEclipse
•Not necessarily. It might still be processing. If you were denied you'd usually get a specific denial notice explaining why.

ugh the waiting is the worst part!! I was checking my account like 5 times a day when I filed. took almost 3 weeks before I got my determination letter

•Did you get approved? What was the holdup?

Yara Khalil
•yeah I got approved but they had to verify my work history with my previous employer which took forever

Also make sure you're filing your weekly claims even while your initial claim is pending. You can't get paid for weeks you don't file for, even if you get approved later.

•Wait, I haven't been filing weekly claims because I thought I had to wait until I was approved first!

Ava Williams
•No no, you need to file weekly claims starting the week after you filed your initial claim. You can backdate some but it's easier to just start filing now.

•This is super important - I made the same mistake and lost 2 weeks of benefits because I didn't file weekly claims while waiting for approval.

The whole system is confusing as hell. They should just send you a text or email when your claim status changes instead of making you log in and guess what everything means.

•Seriously! I feel like I need a decoder ring to understand their website.

•Right? And don't get me started on trying to call them. It's like they don't want to help people.

Check your mail too - sometimes the online system is slow to update but they've already mailed your determination letter. I got my approval letter 2 days before my online account showed I was approved.

•Good point, I'll make sure to check my mail more carefully. I might have missed something.

If you're still pending after 3 weeks you might want to call them. I know it's hard to get through but sometimes there's an issue they need to resolve that's not showing up clearly online.

•How do you actually get through to them? Every time I call I get a busy signal or get disconnected after waiting on hold.

•That's exactly why I used Claimyr - they handle all the calling and waiting for you. Saved me so much frustration.

been there! the uncertainty is stressful. just keep filing your weekly claims and checking your account. most people get approved unless there's something unusual about their job separation

•That's reassuring, thanks. I was laid off due to company downsizing so hopefully that's straightforward.

LunarEclipse
For layoffs due to downsizing you should be approved pretty quickly since it's not a misconduct issue. The delay is probably just them processing the paperwork and verifying your wages with your employer.

Dmitry Petrov
•That makes sense. My company did lay off about 50 people so they're probably getting a lot of claims to process.
0 coins
LunarEclipse
•Exactly. Mass layoffs sometimes take a bit longer because Washington ESD has to coordinate with the employer and process multiple claims at once.

Make sure you have your Social Security number and PIN ready when you log in. Sometimes the system logs you out if you're not actively clicking around.

•Yeah I noticed that - it's annoying when you're trying to read through everything carefully.

I just got approved last week and the first thing I noticed was that my 'Claim Summary' page showed a weekly benefit amount instead of $0. Then I got the official letter about 3 days later.

Dmitry Petrov
•Okay so the weekly benefit amount appearing is probably the first sign that you're approved. I'll keep watching for that.

FireflyDreams
•Yeah, and once that shows up you can usually start filing weekly claims for payment right away.

One more thing - if you do get approved, your first payment might take an extra week because there's usually a waiting period. Don't panic if you don't see money immediately after approval.

•Good to know, thanks for the heads up. This whole process has so many steps I never expected.

The Washington ESD website is pretty clear once you know where to look. Under 'Unemployment Benefits' there's a 'View Claim Status' option that shows everything you need to know.

•I found that section but it's still showing 'pending' for everything. Guess I just need to be patient.

patience is key with unemployment claims. took me 2.5 weeks to get approved and another week to get my first payment. but once it's set up the weekly claims are pretty easy

Dmitry Petrov
•That's encouraging. I'm just worried about my bills while I wait.

•totally understand. see if you can get on a payment plan with utilities or other bills while you wait. most companies are understanding about unemployment situations

If you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD about your claim status, I had success using a service called Claimyr recently. They basically call for you and get you connected to an actual person instead of dealing with the automated system. Found them at claimyr.com and they have a demo video showing exactly how it works.

•I'm curious about this too. The regular phone system is basically unusable.

Keep checking both your online account AND your mail. The determination letter is the official approval notice and sometimes arrives before the website updates completely.

•Will do. Thanks everyone for all the advice - this has been really helpful!

once you get approved the weekly claims become routine. you'll file every week usually on sunday and get paid tuesday or wednesday. just hang in there!

Dmitry Petrov
•Looking forward to getting to that routine part. The uncertainty is the hardest part right now.

Just to summarize for you: 1) Keep checking your SAW account for weekly benefit amount to appear 2) Watch your mail for the determination letter 3) Keep filing weekly claims 4) If no update after 3 weeks, consider calling or using a service like Claimyr to get through. You should be fine with a layoff situation.

•Perfect summary, thank you! I feel much more confident about what to expect now.
