How do I know if my unemployment was approved Washington ESD?
Filed my claim two weeks ago but I'm not sure if it's been approved yet. The Washington ESD website just shows 'claim submitted' but nothing about approval status. Should I have gotten some kind of notification by now? I've been checking my account daily but there's no clear indication either way. Is there a specific place in the system where it shows approval status?

You should receive a Monetary Determination letter within 10-14 days of filing your initial claim. This tells you if you're approved and what your weekly benefit amount will be. Check your messages in your Washington ESD account under 'Correspondence' - it might be there electronically.

•Thanks! I found the correspondence section but it's empty. Should I be worried if it's been 2 weeks?

GalacticGuru
•Not necessarily. Sometimes it takes longer, especially if there are any issues with your employment history that need verification.

same situation here, filed 3 weeks ago and still waiting. called like 50 times but can never get through

•Have you tried calling right at 8am when they open? That's usually the best time to get through.

•yeah tried that too, still just busy signals or holds that disconnect after an hour

If you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD by phone, I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to an agent. They have a system that handles the calling for you - there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Saved me hours of trying to call myself.

•Is that legit? Never heard of services like that before.

•Yeah it's real, website is claimyr.com. They basically keep calling until they get through then patch you to the agent. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

•Interesting, might have to try that if I can't get through myself

Your claim status should show up in your account under 'View and Maintain Account Information.' If it says 'Active' then you're approved. If it shows 'Inactive' or 'Adjudication' then there might be an issue they're reviewing.

•Mine just says 'Filed' - is that different from Active?

Dylan Cooper
•Filed means they received it but haven't processed it yet. Active means approved and you can start filing weekly claims.

UGH this system is so confusing!! Why can't they just send a simple email saying YES or NO instead of making us hunt around for status updates?

•Right? Like it's 2025 and we're still playing guessing games about our claim status

•The system is definitely not user-friendly. Most people don't realize they need to check multiple sections to get the full picture.

Also check if you can file your first weekly claim. If the system lets you file weekly claims, that usually means you're approved even if you haven't gotten the official letter yet.

•Good point! I'll try to file my weekly claim and see what happens.

Amara Nnamani
•Yeah if it rejects you or says you can't file, then something's wrong with your claim

been through this before - you'll get a determination letter in the mail too, not just online. sometimes the mail comes before the online notification shows up

Liam Fitzgerald
•How long did it take for your mail to arrive?

Dmitry Ivanov
•took about 2 weeks but that was during covid, might be faster now

Pro tip: if you're approved, you'll also be able to access the job search requirements section. That only shows up for active claims.

Liam Fitzgerald
•I can see that section! Does that mean I'm approved?
0 coins
Fatima Al-Suwaidi
•Very likely yes. The system wouldn't show you job search requirements if your claim wasn't active.

GalacticGuru
•That's actually a good indicator. If you can access WorkSourceWA integration, you're probably approved.

what if it's been over a month and still no word? asking for a friend who's getting desperate
0 coins
GalacticGuru
•After a month, there's definitely an issue. Could be in adjudication for identity verification or employment history discrepancies.
0 coins
StarSailor
•how would they know if it's in adjudication?
0 coins
GalacticGuru
•It would show 'Adjudication in Progress' somewhere in their account, usually under claim status or alerts.

For anyone still struggling to get through to Washington ESD, I used Claimyr again last week and got connected in about 20 minutes. Much better than the 3-4 hours I was spending trying to call myself. The agent was able to tell me exactly what was holding up my claim.

•How much does something like that cost?
0 coins
Giovanni Mancini
•Way less than the money I was losing by not being able to get answers about my claim. Check their site claimyr.com for details.

Just remember that even if you're approved, your first payment might take an extra week because of the waiting week requirement. Don't panic if money doesn't show up immediately.

Liam Fitzgerald
•Washington still has a waiting week? I thought that was eliminated.
0 coins
Ava Garcia
•No waiting week anymore, that ended in 2021. But there's still processing time between filing and payment.
0 coins
GalacticGuru
•Correct, no waiting week in Washington. First payment usually comes within a few days of filing your first weekly claim if there are no issues.

Look for an email from Washington ESD too. Sometimes they send notifications that way before updating the website.

•I've been checking my email religiously but nothing yet. Should I check spam folder?

Miguel Silva
•Definitely check spam! Government emails get filtered sometimes.

Another way to tell is if you start getting the job search tracking requirements. They only assign those to approved claims.
0 coins
Liam Fitzgerald
•What do you mean by job search tracking requirements?
0 coins
Zainab Ismail
•You have to log job search activities each week when you file. If the system is asking you to do that, you're approved.

honestly the whole system is a mess. took me 6 weeks to get approved and I had to call like 100 times. hang in there
0 coins
Liam Fitzgerald
•6 weeks?! That's insane. Did they ever explain the delay?

•something about verifying my previous employer info. could have been resolved in 5 minutes if I could have talked to someone earlier

Check your bank account too. Sometimes the direct deposit shows up before any online notifications.

•Good idea! I set up direct deposit so I'll keep an eye on that.

If you're really worried, try the Claimyr service mentioned earlier. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked. Got through to an agent who confirmed my approval status right away. Way better than guessing.

Liam Fitzgerald
•I'm starting to think that might be my best option. The uncertainty is killing me.

Yara Nassar
•It's worth it for the peace of mind. Plus the agent can tell you exactly what's happening with your claim instead of you trying to interpret the website.

Also watch for any requests for additional documentation. If they need something from you, the claim won't be approved until you provide it.
0 coins
Liam Fitzgerald
•Where would those requests show up?
0 coins
Keisha Williams
•Usually in your correspondence section or as an alert when you log in. Sometimes they mail them too.

The monetary determination letter is really the official confirmation. Everything else is just hints and clues.
0 coins
Liam Fitzgerald
•So I should just wait for that letter then?
0 coins
Paolo Ricci
•That's the definitive answer, but you can usually figure it out from the other signs people mentioned.
