Filed ESD appeal a week ago - no confirmation anywhere in SAW account?
I submitted an appeal to ESD last Wednesday after they denied my benefits (said I voluntarily quit, but I was actually laid off with 5 other people). It's been over a week and I haven't received ANY confirmation that they got my appeal - no email, no letter, nothing. I've looked all through my SAW account and eServices but don't see anything about the appeal status. Am I missing something obvious? Is there some secret place where appeal info shows up? Getting really nervous that they never received it or it's lost in the system somewhere. How long should it take to at least get confirmation they received my appeal?

Appeals don't show up in SAW or eServices right away. ESD has to process the appeal first and then send it to Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH). You should get a letter in the mail within 2-3 weeks with your hearing date and appeal acknowledgment. If you submitted online, you should have gotten a confirmation number - did you save that?

•I did get a confirmation number when I submitted it, but nothing since then. I took a screenshot but wasn't sure if that meant anything. So the appeal info doesn't show up in the online account at all? That's so frustrating. I guess I'll just keep checking my mail. Thanks!

same thing happnd to me last month, took almost 3 WEEKS before I got anything in the mail about my appeal. the ESD website is useless for checking appeal status. just keep an eye on ur mailbox

•3 weeks?! That's crazy! I hate being in this weird limbo where I don't even know if they're processing it. Did your benefits continue while you were waiting for the appeal, or were they cut off completely?

•mine were cut off completely. sucked cuz i had to wait like 6 weeks total before i got a hearing and got my benefits back. make sure u keep filing ur weekly claims even tho ur not getting paid!!!

The entire appeal system at ESD is COMPLETELY BROKEN. They take your appeal and then it disappears into a black hole for weeks. No updates. No status. Nothing online. It's like they're still using technology from 1995. I'm not surprised you can't find any information - NOBODY can! The people who designed their systems should be fired.

•This is so true. I went through the same thing last year. You'd think after all these years they would have figured out how to show appeal status online, but nope! Still sending everything by snail mail like it's the 90s.

I work with unemployment claims professionally, and I can clarify a few things: 1. When you file an appeal, it does NOT show up in your eServices account. ESD uses a separate system for appeals. 2. The timeline should be: - 1-2 weeks for initial processing at ESD - Appeal gets transferred to Office of Administrative Hearings - OAH sends you a packet with hearing date/time (usually 2-3 weeks after filing) - Hearing typically scheduled 3-6 weeks from filing date 3. If you need to check status before receiving mail, you need to speak directly with an ESD agent. They can verify receipt of your appeal in their internal systems. 4. VERY IMPORTANT: Continue filing your weekly claims even though you're denied! If you win your appeal, they can only pay weeks you properly filed for.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation. That timeline helps set my expectations. I am continuing to file my weekly claims even though they're not paying me right now. I'll give it another week before I start really worrying!

Has anyone had luck using Claimyr to get through to ESD for checking appeal status? I used it last month when I was in a similar situation to check if my appeal was actually received. Only took about 20 minutes to get through instead of the usual hours of redial hell. Their video explains how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 and website is claimyr.com. It was the only way I could get confirmation before my mail arrived. The agent was able to see my appeal was in process even though nothing showed online.

•I've never heard of Claimyr before. I might try that if I don't get anything in the mail by next week. At this point I just want confirmation they actually received my appeal. Did the ESD agent give you any other information besides confirming they received it?

•Yes, the agent was able to tell me the exact date my appeal was forwarded to OAH and gave me their direct number too. Way more info than I could get anywhere else. It saved me a ton of stress just knowing it wasn't lost somewhere.

when i had my appeal last year i got a letter after like 10 days but my neighbor didnt get anything for like a month for his appeal so i think its just random how long it takes? the whole system is messed up if u ask me. my hearing was by phone and the judge was actually pretty nice tho

•That's somewhat reassuring about the judge being nice. I'm nervous about the hearing already. Was it formal? Did you have to prepare a lot of documents?

•it was pretty chill actually. just had the call and the judge asked me questions. i had my termination letter and some emails ready. make sure u have anything that proves u were laid off not quit. good luck!

While you're waiting for your appeal confirmation, I recommend preparing your evidence. Gather anything that proves you were laid off: termination letter, emails, texts with your boss, contact info for coworkers who were also laid off, etc. The more documentation you have showing it wasn't voluntary, the better your chances. Also write down a timeline of events while it's fresh in your memory.

•That's really good advice. I have the official layoff notice and emails from HR about the company restructuring. I also have contact info for 2 of the other employees who were laid off with me. I'll start organizing everything now so I'm prepared when I finally get a hearing date.

I had this exact same sitatuion last quarter!!! Actually what happened was my appeal confirmation got sent to my old address even though I updated everything in the system. Maybe check with your old address if you moved recently? Just a thought.

•I haven't moved recently, but that's a good point about mail forwarding issues. I'll double check that all my contact info is updated in the system. Thanks for the suggestion!
