ESD still doesn't show my claim after 2 weeks - normal wait time?

I filed my unemployment claim with ESD about 2 weeks ago and when I log in to check the status, the system doesn't even show that I have a claim on file! Is this normal? The confirmation page said it could take 1-2 weeks for processing but shouldn't it at least show up in my account by now? My previous employer verified they received the notification from ESD, so I know something went through. Anyone else experience this weird limbo where your claim seems to disappear into thin air? Getting really anxious because rent is due soon and I need to know if I should be making other arrangements.

This happened to me back in January. My claim didn't show up for almost 3 weeks! ESD's system is notoriously slow at updating. As long as you got the confirmation number when you filed, your claim is in their system somewhere. Have you tried calling the claims center directly? They can verify if your claim is actually in the system even if it's not showing up in your online account yet.

I did get a confirmation number thankfully! But I've been trying to call for 3 days straight and just get the "high call volume" message before it hangs up on me. Did you have to do anything special to get through to an actual person?

It's weirdly comforting to know I'm not the only one, but also terrible that we're both stuck in this situation. Have you tried emailing them? I sent an email yesterday but no response yet.

The system is severely backlogged right now. There were some tech upgrades in February that are still causing issues with claim visibility in the portal. Your claim is likely in process but just not displaying correctly. A few tips: 1. Check if you received an email confirmation when you filed - save this 2. Keep screenshots of your online account showing no claim 3. Continue filing weekly claims even if your initial claim isn't showing up 4. Try accessing your account from a different browser (sometimes it's a browser cache issue) I know it's stressful, but ESD will backdate your payments to your original filing date once everything is processed correctly.

Thank you! I didn't even think about filing weekly claims since I can't see my initial claim. I'll start doing that right away. Do I just go through the regular weekly claim process even though nothing shows up in my account?

If you need to actually reach someone at ESD, I was in the same boat last month and finally got through using Claimyr. It's a service that basically holds your place in line and calls you when they connect with an ESD agent. Saved me hours of frustration and hangups. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent I talked to said that sometimes claims get stuck in the initial verification queue but don't show up in the online portal. They were able to see my claim in their system and push it through to the next stage.

That sounds amazing right now. I'll check it out because I'm desperate to talk to an actual human at ESD. Did they explain why the claim wasn't showing up in your account?

Just checking back - were you able to get through to ESD? For your weekly claims question, yes, you should absolutely file your weekly claims even if you can't see your initial claim. There's a separate section for filing weekly claims that should work regardless. If you miss filing your weekly claims, it creates a whole new set of problems later.

I tried that Claimyr service and actually got through to someone yesterday! The agent confirmed my claim IS in their system from 2 weeks ago but is stuck in the identity verification queue. Apparently there's a huge backlog there. She put a note on my claim to expedite it and said I should see it in my online account within 3-5 business days. And yes, I started filing my weekly claims even though I can't see the initial claim. Thanks everyone for the help!

I went through this exact nightmare in January. The claim was stuck in what they call "identity verification purgatory" and wouldn't show in my account. Here's what worked for me: 1. I contacted my state representative's office (find yours at leg.wa.gov) 2. Filled out their constituent services form explaining the situation 3. They contacted ESD on my behalf 4. My claim suddenly appeared in the system 2 days later State reps have special channels to ESD that regular claimants don't have access to. It's ridiculous that we have to go to these lengths, but it works.

This is excellent advice. The legislative constituent services route is incredibly effective for ESD issues. They have dedicated ESD liaisons who can often resolve problems within days that might otherwise take weeks.

Wait I'm confused about something... are you talking about your ESD unemployment claim or your tax refund from Washington state? Your post title mentions ESD but your description sounds like you might be waiting on a tax refund. Those are completely different systems.

Sorry for any confusion! I'm definitely talking about my unemployment claim with ESD, not taxes. I filed for unemployment benefits two weeks ago and it's not showing up in the ESD system when I log in to my account.
