ESD sent me to governor's office - what's the right contact number?
So frustrated with my ESD claim that's been in adjudication for over 9 weeks! Called ESD 15+ times last week and either got disconnected or was on hold for 2+ hours before giving up. Finally got through yesterday and the rep told me that since my claim involves a policy issue, I need to contact the governor's office directly. She gave me a phone number but I lost the sticky note where I wrote it down (totally my fault). Does anyone know the correct contact number for the governor's office for unemployment policy issues? Has anyone else been told to contact them about adjudication delays? Just wondering if this is legitimate advice or if the ESD rep was just trying to get me off the phone.

Wait, that doesn't sound right AT ALL. The Governor's office doesn't handle individual unemployment claims! I think that rep was definitely trying to get rid of you. I've been through adjudication twice and the Governor's office is NOT part of the process. You need to keep calling ESD directly or contact your WorkSource office for help.

•Really?? Ugh, I knew something seemed off about that advice. So frustrating to waste time being given the runaround. Should I file a complaint about the rep or just keep trying with ESD?

The governor's main office number is 360-902-4111 but I seriously doubt they can help with unemployment issues directly. This sounds like you're getting the classic ESD shuffle where no one wants to take responsibility. I've been there!!

•Omg this happens all the time with ESD! I was told to contact L&I for my claim issue when it was 100% an ESD problem. The different departments just pass us around hoping we'll give up. So annoying!!!

You might be dealing with a special circumstance if it involves policy interpretation, but the Governor's office still isn't the right contact. What they might have meant is the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) if you're at the appeal stage, or possibly the Unemployment Law Project for assistance. If you've been in adjudication for 9 weeks, you have options: 1. Continue calling ESD directly at 800-318-6022 2. Contact your state representative (they can sometimes help) 3. Email the ESD Commissioner's Office at commissioner@esd.wa.gov But honestly, adjudication delays are unfortunately common right now. What kind of issue triggered the adjudication?

•Thanks for this detailed response! My adjudication is about whether I quit or was laid off. My employer is claiming I voluntarily quit, but I was actually told my position was being eliminated due to budget cuts. I have email evidence, but can't seem to get anyone to look at it.

Try using Claimyr to get through to ESD directly. I was in the exact same situation last month - 7 weeks in adjudication with no contact. Was ready to pull my hair out! Found this service at claimyr.com that got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 15 minutes instead of spending hours on hold. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent I spoke with was able to escalate my adjudication to a supervisor and it was resolved within a week. WAY better than being sent on a wild goose chase to the governor's office!

•It worked for me and two other people in my apartment building who were also dealing with ESD issues. You still talk directly with ESD agents - it just helps you skip the hold time and actually get through to them.

i had something similar happen! rep told me to contact dept of commerce for my claim!! lol makes no sense. gov office is 360-902-4111 for main line but they will just direct you back to esd. keep trying the esd number and dont accept that nonsense.

For your specific situation - separation dispute (quit vs. layoff) - you're in the standard adjudication process. This is 100% handled by ESD adjudicators, not the governor's office. The email evidence you mentioned is exactly what the adjudicator needs to see. Call ESD directly and specifically ask for: 1. The status of your adjudication 2. Confirmation that your documentation has been received and added to your file 3. An estimated timeframe for resolution Be persistent but polite. If they try to redirect you again, ask to speak with a supervisor. Document the date/time of every call and the name of who you spoke with.

•Thank you! I'll definitely try this approach. I've been documenting everything so far. Just getting so worried since my savings are almost gone and rent is due soon. Really appreciate the guidance.

My neighbor works for the legislative office and they said people often contact their state representatives when ESD issues drag on too long. They can sometimes help speed things up! Maybe try that route instead of the governor's office? Just Google "[your area] state representative" to find their contact info.

•That's a good idea! I hadn't thought of contacting my rep. I'll look them up today. Thanks for the suggestion!
