Need direct ESD phone number - governor's office contact info?

I've been trying to get in touch with ESD for 3 weeks about my denied unemployment claim (apparently they think I quit but I was actually laid off). I'm at my wit's end and thinking of contacting the governor's office to see if they can help push my case through. Has anyone successfully done this? What's the phone number for the governor's office? And did it actually help with your unemployment issues? I've already tried the ESD appeals process but it's been stuck in pending status for over a month now.

The Washington State Governor's Office phone number is (360) 902-4111. You can also use their online contact form at governor.wa.gov/contact. However, before you go that route, have you tried reaching an ESD agent directly? The governor's office will likely just refer you back to ESD anyway. What specific issue are you having with your claim?

Thanks for the number! My issue is that ESD marked me as 'voluntary quit' when I was actually laid off due to budget cuts. I've been trying to reach someone at ESD to explain my situation, but I can't get through the phone system - it just disconnects me after going through all the menu options. I've sent messages through eServices but no response after 3 weeks.

calling the govoners office is a waste of time, they just transfer you back to regular ESD or take a message that goes nowhere. i tried that route last year and nothing happened for months

Did you eventually get your issue resolved? I'm desperate at this point - can't pay rent next month without getting this fixed.

I was in a similar situation last winter! The disqualification for 'voluntary quit' is frustrating when you know you were laid off. What worked for me was gathering documentation that proved I was laid off - I had my termination letter, emails from my manager about the layoffs, and even statements from coworkers who were laid off at the same time. You need to get this evidence to an actual adjudicator, but the problem is definitely reaching someone at ESD. Have you tried calling right when they open at 8:00 AM? That sometimes works.

I've tried calling at opening time for the past week - no luck. Either get the busy signal or it disconnects me after going through all the prompts. I do have the layoff documentation from HR, but haven't been able to get it to anyone who can actually review my case.

I had to deal with this exact issue! Governor's office just sends you back to ESD in my experience. Your focusing on wrong issue - you need to file an appeal against the voluntary quit determination. There should be a link in your eServices account to file appeal. That gets you a hearing with Office of Administrative Hearings where you can present your evidence about being laid off.

I did file an appeal about 4 weeks ago, but it's still showing as 'pending' with no hearing date set. That's why I'm trying to reach someone directly.

I used Claimyr when I was stuck in a similar situation (wrongful denial, couldn't reach anyone). It's a service that gets you connected to an actual ESD agent instead of waiting on hold forever or getting disconnected. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 It worked for me and saved me weeks of frustration. Once I finally talked to an agent, they were able to see the documentation I submitted and move my case forward.

I've never heard of this before. Does it actually work? I'm willing to try anything at this point but skeptical of third-party services for something like unemployment.

Yes, it worked for me! It's just a callback service that helps you navigate the ESD phone system. I was also skeptical but desperate after trying for weeks. Once I got through to an actual agent, they were able to look at my file and help resolve the issue. Just make sure you have all your documentation ready when they call.

the governors office # wont help u trust me!!!! i called them 6 times last year when my benefits got cut off for no reason and they just take ur info and say theyll 'escalate' but NOTHING HAPPENS. total waste of time. best bet is to keep trying esd direct or maybe try ur state representativ instead??

I want to second the state representative suggestion. When I had issues with my claim last year, my state rep's office was actually helpful. They have liaisons who work directly with ESD on constituent issues. You can find your representative at app.leg.wa.gov/districtfinder and most have caseworkers who handle unemployment issues.

One important thing to note: if your appeal has been pending for over 30 days, you can actually file a request for expedited processing. There's a form you can submit that essentially says your case has exceeded the normal processing timeframe. Check under the 'Forms and Publications' section in your eServices account. Also, when you do reach ESD, be sure to specifically ask them to look at your appeal status. The regular agents can sometimes see what's causing the delay even if they can't directly fix the issue themselves.

Thank you! I didn't know about the expedited processing form - I'll look for that right away. Hopefully I can get through to someone who can help move things along.

After reading all these comments, I think your best three options are: 1. Use a service like Claimyr to actually reach an ESD agent who can look at your file 2. File that expedited processing form for your appeal that was mentioned 3. Contact your state representative's office for help The governor's office route is unlikely to help based on everyone's experiences. The most important thing is proving you were laid off rather than quitting. Make sure you have your termination notice, any emails about the layoff, and contact information for your former employer's HR department ready. The ESD adjudicator will likely contact your employer to verify the circumstances.

This is really helpful - thank you! I'm going to try all three approaches. I've got my documentation ready including the layoff notice and emails from my manager about the department-wide cuts. Just need to get someone to actually look at them!
