ESD payment shows 'paid' since Dec 29th but not on KeyBank card - holiday delay?

Hey everyone, I'm a bit confused about my back payments from ESD. My online account shows they've been marked as 'paid' since December 29th, but I haven't seen the money show up yet. I still have my KeyBank debit card from my previous unemployment claim. Will these new payments go onto that same card, or are they sending me a new one? It's January 3rd now and I still don't see any funds available. Could the holiday break be causing the delay? Getting kind of anxious since I've got rent coming up soon. Thanks for any help!

Yes, the funds should go to your existing KeyBank card if that's still your selected payment method in your ESD account. Holiday delays are definitely a factor right now - with New Year's falling on a weekend and the observed holiday on Monday, banking transfers are backed up. It's normal to see a 3-5 business day delay between when ESD marks something as 'paid' and when it actually hits your card, especially during holiday periods. I'd give it until the end of this week before getting too concerned.

Thanks for the reassurance! That makes sense with the holidays. Do you know if there's any way to check if my card is still active? It's been like 8 months since I last used it.

Same here! Plus banks are extra slow the first week of January. Every. Single. Year.

ARE YOU SURE YOU DIDN'T SELECT DIRECT DEPOSIT??? This happened to me and I was checking my debit card for WEEKS while my money was sitting in my checking account!!! The ESD website is SO CONFUSING about payment methods. Double check your payment preferences in eServices because they sometimes reset after long periods of inactivity!!!!!

Oh crap, I didn't even think of that possibility! I'm going to check my bank account right now. I don't remember setting up direct deposit, but who knows. The ESD website IS super confusing.

Your KeyBank card is still valid even if you haven't used it in a while. They're good for 3 years from issue date (should be printed on the front). You can call the number on the back to check your balance and transaction history. If you've lost the card or it's expired, you'll need to request a replacement through KeyBank directly, not through ESD. As for the delay, yes, the holidays are a major factor. ESD might mark payments as "paid" when they initiate the transfer, but then it goes into the banking system which operates on business days only. With the New Year holiday weekend plus observed holiday on Monday, we're really only 2 business days into 2025, so I wouldn't worry yet.

That's helpful, thank you! I found my card and it doesn't expire until November 2025, so that should be fine. I'll try calling the number on the back to check if there's been any recent activity.

I had this exact problem last summer! Back payments showed as paid for almost a week before they showed up. I panicked and spent HOURS trying to get through to ESD on the phone. Kept getting the "high call volume" message and getting disconnected. So frustrating! Eventually I just had to wait it out and the money did show up, but it was super stressful not knowing what was happening.

If you ever need to reach ESD quickly, I've had great success using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a system that helps you skip the phone queue and get through to an actual ESD agent. Saved me hours of frustration when I had payment issues last month. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Much better than constantly redialing and getting hung up on!

One time my payment went to my old address even though I updated my info. Maybe double check your contact info is current?

That would only matter if they were getting a paper check. For KeyBank card deposits, the address doesn't affect fund transfers.

Just to add a bit more info - ESD and KeyBank operate as separate entities. Once ESD shows "paid," the transaction is in KeyBank's hands. You can actually call KeyBank's unemployment debit card customer service directly at 1-866-295-2955 to check pending deposits. Sometimes they can see pending transfers before they're fully processed.

Update: I called KeyBank, and they said there IS a pending deposit that should be available by tomorrow! Thank you all for the help and keeping me from panicking!
