ESD payment showed 'paid' but no deposit in bank account - what happened?
I'm really confused and starting to worry. I've been receiving my unemployment benefits via direct deposit for the past 3 weeks (always Monday mornings like clockwork), but today absolutely nothing showed up in my bank account. When I check my ESD account online, it shows the payment as 'paid' for this week. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I contact my bank first or call ESD? I've got rent due in two days and was counting on this money. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

this happend to me in January! the website said paid but no $$ in my account for like 3 days. turns out it was a bank holiday (MLK day) that pushed everything back. any chance today is a bank holiday?

•Oh! I didn't even think about that. Let me check... you might be right actually. Thanks for the suggestion.

There are several possible reasons for this situation: 1. Bank processing delays - even though ESD shows 'paid,' your bank might take 1-2 business days to process the deposit 2. Banking holidays can delay deposits 3. ESD occasionally has system glitches that show payments as 'paid' before they're actually processed 4. Your bank information might have been changed accidentally I'd recommend checking your payment details in your ESD account to verify the correct bank account is listed. If everything looks correct, give it until tomorrow morning before panicking. If nothing shows up by then, you should contact ESD directly.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I checked my banking info and everything looks correct. I'll give it until tomorrow morning as you suggested before taking any further steps.

The exact same thing happened to me last month and I was FREAKING OUT!!! Called my bank and they said they didn't see any pending deposits. Called ESD (or tried to anyway) and couldn't get through. The money showed up TWO DAYS LATER with no explanation!! The system is so frustrating sometimes!!!

•yep same experience here. it's like the computer says it's sent but it takes forever to actually hit your account. super annoying when you're counting on that money

Most likely this is just a processing delay. However, if you need to reach ESD to confirm, I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to an agent. I was in a similar situation last month and spent days trying to get through on my own. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It was worth it to get an answer directly from ESD rather than stressing for days.

•Does that actually work? I've never been able to get through to ESD when I call them directly.

One thing to consider - did you recently change anything about your claim or weekly filing? Sometimes if there's a new employer added or if you reported earnings differently, it can trigger a brief review that delays payment by a day or two. The system still shows 'paid' because it's approved, but the actual money transfer gets delayed. Also, double-check your bank account details in your ESD profile. It's rare, but I've seen cases where the account numbers somehow get partially changed in the system.

•I did actually report some part-time hours last week for the first time since starting my claim. Maybe that's what triggered it? I'll double-check my bank info too, but I'm pretty sure it's correct since the previous payments came through fine.

•Update: The payment just hit my account this morning! Looks like it was just delayed by a day. Thanks everyone for your help and keeping me from panicking too much!

This whole unemployment system is such a joke. They expect us to file everything perfectly on time but then can't even get payments out reliably. And good luck getting answers when you call - I've spent HOURS just trying to talk to a human.

•The system definitely has its flaws, but in fairness, most payment issues do resolve within 1-2 business days. It's more the lack of clear communication about delays that causes unnecessary stress for claimants.
