ESD payment showing 'processing web' after working 10 hours - can't make my interview

My UI payment status suddenly changed to 'processing web' instead of the usual direct deposit I've been getting each week. I reported 10 hours of work on my weekly claim (picked up a temporary gig) and now I'm panicking that those hours somehow made me ineligible. To make matters worse, I have a mandatory in-person interview with ESD scheduled for TODAY, but it's 45 miles away and I literally can't afford the gas to get there since this payment didn't come through. I've already had to cancel my car payment that was scheduled for auto-withdrawal today. Has anyone else had their payment switch to 'processing web' after reporting part-time hours? Will I still get paid? And what happens if I miss this interview because I can't afford to drive there? I'm seriously stressing out right now.

The same thing happened to me last month! When you report hours worked, sometimes ESD switches to 'processing web' status while they verify your earnings. It usually takes 2-3 business days longer than normal to process. You should still get paid, but it'll likely be reduced based on your earnings. As for the in-person interview - call them IMMEDIATELY. Missing it without notification could result in your benefits being denied. They might be able to reschedule or do a phone interview instead given your situation.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've been trying to call all morning but can't get through the queue. My interview is at 2pm today, and I'm getting really desperate. Do you know if there's any penalty for missing it if I can prove I couldn't afford to get there?

processing web usally means ur still getting paid just might take a extra day. the 10 hrs thing will just make ur payment smaller not cancel it. but the meeting thing is BAD u cant miss those or they cut u off!!!! can u borrow gas $ from someone?? or maybe bus there???

I wish I could, but I've already borrowed money from everyone I know just to cover rent last month. There's no bus service out to the WorkSource office where my interview is scheduled. I'm going to keep trying to call them.

This is a common issue when you first report part-time work on your claim. The 'processing web' status typically means ESD is calculating your partial benefit amount after deducting your earnings. For every $3 you earn, they deduct about $1 from your benefit amount. Regarding your interview, you should call ESD immediately to explain your situation. There's a specific procedure for requesting rescheduling due to hardship. Simply missing the interview without prior notification could result in disqualification from benefits for weeks. By the way, how did you receive the interview notification? Was it through eServices, email, or physical mail? That information might help determine how urgent and non-negotiable the interview actually is.

It came through eServices and by mail about 2 weeks ago. The letter said it was mandatory and that failing to appear would result in denial of benefits. I've been calling nonstop but just get the automated message about high call volume. I'm starting to panic.

Ugh I HATE how they expect us to magically have money for gas when they're the ones not paying us on time! This system is completely broken. I had a similar situation last year and ended up getting my benefits cut off for 8 weeks because I missed an interview. It took me filing an appeal and waiting FOREVER to get it sorted out. It's like they design the system to make people fail.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of! I can't afford to lose benefits for 8 weeks - I'd be homeless. Did you have any luck with the appeal process? How long did it take to get resolved?

I work as an employment counselor and can offer some insight. When your payment status changes to 'processing web' after reporting earnings, it typically means your claim is undergoing a routine review. Since this is your first time reporting part-time work, the system flags it for verification. You should still receive a payment, though reduced according to the earnings deduction formula. Regarding your interview, there are two critical steps to take immediately: 1. Call the ESD office where your interview is scheduled directly (not the main ESD line) and explain your hardship situation. Local offices often have more flexibility. 2. Document your attempts to contact them (take screenshots of call logs or make notes with times/dates). Missing an interview without prior notice can indeed result in benefit disqualification, but ESD does recognize genuine hardship situations if properly documented.

Thank you so much for this information. I didn't realize I could call the local office directly - I've been trying the main number all morning. I'll look up the direct number for the WorkSource office right now and try that instead. I've been taking screenshots of my call attempts just in case.

Have you tried Claimyr? When I was in a similar situation last month and couldn't get through to ESD, I used claimyr.com and they got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. It was seriously a lifesaver when I needed to reschedule an interview and couldn't get through on the regular line. Worth checking out if you're desperate to talk to someone before your 2pm appointment.

I've never heard of this before. Does it actually work? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point since my interview is in a few hours.

Yes it definitely worked for me! They basically help you skip the phone queue. I was connected to an actual ESD person who was able to help with my issue. Much better than trying to call repeatedly and getting nowhere.

Don't panic about the 'processing web' status - I get that every time I report even a few hours of work. Your payment will still come through, just a bit reduced and maybe a day or two late. They just have to adjust the amount based on your earnings. For the interview issue - is it a fact-finding interview about your claim or a mandatory WorkSource appointment? Those are two different things with different consequences. If it's a fact-finding interview about your claim, missing it is very serious. If it's a regular WorkSource appointment, call your case manager directly (should be on the letter) and explain the situation. They're usually understanding about transportation hardships if you communicate BEFORE missing the appointment.

It's a fact-finding interview about my claim. The letter mentions something about 'adjudication' and verifying my employment separation from my last job. Sounds pretty serious from the wording.

just call them and explain, its not ur fault u cant make it if they havent paid u! make sure u write down the date/time u called and who u talked to. thats what my friend did when he couldnt make his meeting and they rescheduled it for him no problem

UPDATE: I finally got through using that Claimyr service someone mentioned! The ESD agent was super understanding and rescheduled my interview for next week. She also explained the 'processing web' status - apparently it's normal when you first report earnings and doesn't mean I won't get paid. She said my payment should arrive tomorrow, just 1 day later than usual. Thanks everyone for the advice and support! I was having a complete meltdown this morning thinking I was going to lose my benefits.

That's great news! I'm glad you were able to get it resolved. For future reference, whenever your payment status changes or you report earnings for the first time, it's normal to see processing delays. ESD needs to manually verify the first instance of part-time work for most claims. Once you've reported part-time work a few times, the process usually becomes more streamlined. Also, keep in mind that you can work part-time and still receive partial unemployment benefits as long as you don't exceed your weekly benefit amount in earnings. Always report all hours and earnings accurately - even small errors can trigger lengthy adjudication processes.

Thanks for the explanation! I'm relieved to know this is normal. I'll definitely be more prepared next time I pick up part-time hours. The agent mentioned I should still qualify for about 60% of my regular benefit amount even with the 10 hours I worked, which is better than I expected.

So glad you got it sorted out! I was worried for you reading through this thread. That Claimyr service sounds like a game-changer - I've wasted so many hours on hold with ESD over the years. I'm definitely bookmarking that for future reference. It's ridiculous that we have to use third-party services just to reach our own state unemployment office, but whatever works! Hope your rescheduled interview goes smoothly and your payment comes through tomorrow as expected.
