ESD payment stuck in 'processed' status for 5 weeks + question about continuing claims with job offer

I'm at my wit's end with ESD right now. My UI payments have been showing as 'processed' for FIVE WEEKS but nothing has hit my bank account. It's thousands of dollars at this point that I'm counting on for January rent. Has anyone else experienced this ridiculous delay between 'processed' status and actual payment? Also - I just got offered a new job (finally!) but it doesn't start until January 4th. Can I keep claiming unemployment until then? Will these claims affect the processed payments that haven't paid out yet? I'm worried if I mention the job offer in my weekly claims it might somehow mess up the money that's already been approved but not paid. I've called ESD about 40 times and either get disconnected or told the wait is 4+ hours. I'm desperate for any advice!

First, congrats on the job offer! For your main question - yes, you absolutely can and should continue filing weekly claims until your actual start date. Just make sure to accurately report any hours worked (which would be zero until Jan 4th) and answer "yes" to the question about whether you've accepted a job offer, providing the start date. This won't affect your eligibility until you actually start working. As for the processed payments not hitting your account, that's concerning. "Processed" status usually means payment should arrive within 2-3 business days. Five weeks suggests something's wrong with your payment method in the system. Have you checked that your direct deposit information is correct? Or if you're using the ESD debit card, have you called the card issuer to see if there's a hold?

Thank you!! I'll make sure to mention the job offer. My bank info is definitely correct - I've triple checked it. Do you think it could be some kind of fraud hold? I didn't receive any notifications about issues with my claim though...

I've been checking obsessively at all hours lol. And I'm not using ReliaCard - just direct deposit to my regular bank account. Did you have to do anything special to get your payments unstuck?

If your payments are stuck in "processed" status for 5 weeks, there's DEFINITELY something wrong! Normal processing is 48-72 hours max. My guess is you're caught in some automated fraud detection system. The fact they're in processed status means ESD approved them, but something is blocking the actual transfer. And YES you should 100% keep filing weekly claims until your start date. You aren't working yet, so you're still eligible. Just be honest about the job offer and start date when you file. Won't affect your eligibility until you start work.

That's what I was thinking too - some kind of fraud detection thing. But wouldn't they contact me if that were the case? The frustrating part is I can SEE the money approved in my account but can't access it.

I had this EXACT problem last year and finally figured out what happened. ESD has a secondary verification process that sometimes kicks in AFTER the claim shows processed. For me, they were verifying my identity because someone else had tried using my SSN. BUT - and this is the crazy part - they don't notify you when this happens! I recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an ESD agent quickly. Totally worth it when you're waiting on thousands of dollars. I was skeptical but their service worked - got me through to a rep in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for weeks. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I reached someone, they immediately saw the issue and released my payments. The agent told me this happens more often than you'd think.

Anyone saying you shouold wait is WRONG!!! 5 weeks?!??! Something is SERIOUSLY broken with your claim!!! I waited 3 weeks once and it turned out they had flagged my account for "verification" but NEVER TOLD ME!!! The most infuriating thing about ESD is their complete failure to communicate when there's problems. And YES to your second question - YOU ABSOLUTELY SHOULD keep claiming until your job starts!!! You aren't working = you get benefits. Simple as that. Just tell the truth about the job offer and everything will be fine.

Thanks, that's really reassuring about continuing claims. Did you ever figure out how to get past the verification issue? What eventually worked for you?

I think I know what's happening with your payment. There's a thing called a "payment hold" that happens sometimes, especially when there's been a change to your claim recently or if you've had any adjudication. It can cause payments to get stuck in the processed stage. You need to talk to someone in the payment unit specifically - regular agents sometimes can't see what's happening. When you call, specifically ask to speak with someone in the "payment processing unit" about a payment hold. Regarding your job offer - continue claiming! The exact instructions from ESD's handbook: "If you accept an offer of work but will not begin work for more than a week, continue claiming until you actually start working." Just answer truthfully about the job offer on your weekly claim form.

Thank you so much - asking for the payment processing unit specifically is super helpful advice. I'll try that approach tomorrow morning. Really appreciate the exact guidance on continuing claims too!

my cousin had this happen!!! try contacting ur state representative they can sometimes help speed things up with esd. also check if theres any alerts or messages in ur eservices account sometimes they need info but dont email u about it

That's a great idea about the state representative. I'll look into that as another option. I've checked eServices obsessively and don't see any alerts, but I'll double-check all the tabs again.

For what it's worth, I successfully claimed unemployment between accepting a job offer and my actual start date (which was 3 weeks later). Just reported that I had accepted an offer with the future start date when filing my weekly claim. Had zero issues with eligibility - the system is designed to handle this situation. Adding one thing about your payment problem - check if you have any outstanding "tasks" in your eServices account. Sometimes these can be hidden in a tab that's not obvious. Also, have you moved recently or changed your address? That can trigger extra verification.
