No ESD payments since October 15th application - rent due soon!
So I submitted my unemployment application over a month ago (October 15th) and haven't received a single payment yet. My claim status just says 'pending' with no explanation. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously but nothing is coming through. My landlord is already asking about December rent and I'm honestly freaking out. I've tried calling ESD like 20+ times but either get disconnected or am on hold until they close. Has anyone else experienced delays this long? Is there anything I can do to speed this up or at least find out what's going on? This is my first time on unemployment and I'm completely lost.

•7 WEEKS?! Omg I can't wait that long. My savings are almost gone and I have no family to borrow from.

ESD is absolutely TERRIBLE at processing new claims!!! I filed in September and didn't see a penny until early November. Their system is DESIGNED to make people give up. Does your online account show any alerts or issues that need to be addressed? Sometimes there's something they need from you but they never actually TELL YOU about it!

•I don't see any alerts on my account. Just the 'pending' status with no explanation. Should I upload ID verification docs anyway even though they didn't ask? I'm desperate at this point.

Sorry you're going through this. It's unfortunately common with first-time claims. There are a few things you should check: 1. Look under the "Uploads" section and see if there are any requested documents 2. Check if your claim says "adjudication in progress" which means they're reviewing something 3. Make sure you've completed your MyClaim Profile 4. Verify your payment method is set up properly If everything looks correct on your end, you need to speak with an agent. With December rent coming up, I'd recommend being persistent with calling. Best times are right when they open at 8am or between 3-4pm when call volume sometimes drops.

•Thanks for the detailed checklist! I've done all of those things except I'm not sure about the MyClaim Profile - is that different from the regular profile setup? I'll double check that part. I've been calling randomly throughout the day but will try right at 8am tomorrow.

Have you tried reaching out to your state representative's office? I was stuck in pending for almost 6 weeks and was about to be evicted. I contacted my state rep's office and they have liaisons who can escalate your claim with ESD. Got my payments within 4 days after they stepped in. Just google "[your county] state representative" and reach out to their constituent services.

I was in the exact same situation last month! If ur claim is just sitting there in pending status, it probably needs manual review but nobody's looking at it. You HAVE to talk to someone at ESD but it's nearly impossible to get through on the phone. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes after trying for weeks on my own. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent found that my ID verification was flagged for no reason and fixed it on the spot. Got paid the next day with all my back weeks.

•Thank you! I've never heard of this service but at this point I'm willing to try anything. Did they explain why your claim was stuck or just fix it?

•They actually explained everything! My claim was stuck because my previous employer contested it (even though I was laid off) but the ESD agent was able to push it through after I explained the situation. The whole thing took like 15 minutes once I actually got to talk to someone.

Quick question - are you on regular UI or did you apply for some kind of special program? The processing times can vary dramatically depending on your claim type. Also, have you worked in multiple states in the past 18 months? That can cause major delays as ESD has to verify with other state systems. Either way, I'd recommend: 1. Call right at 8:00:00 am (literally right as they open) 2. Try the unemployment law project if you're really in dire straits: https://unemploymentlawproject.org/ 3. Keep filing your weekly claims even while you wait Hope this helps!

•I'm on regular UI as far as I know. I was laid off from my retail management job due to store closure. I've only worked in Washington. Thanks for the unemployment law project link - I'll check that out if I can't get through to ESD this week.

Has ANYONE here actually had luck calling the regular ESD number?? I swear it's a joke. I called 47 times in one day last month and either got busy signals or was on hold for HOURS only to get disconnected. The system is designed to fail people who need help the most!

•I've had success calling at off-peak times. Mid-week (Tuesday-Thursday) between 3-4pm sometimes works better. Also, if you select the Spanish option and then tell the agent you need English, they'll usually transfer you rather than hanging up. Just a workaround that's worked for me in the past.

UPDATE: I finally got through to ESD! Used the Claimyr service that someone recommended here and it worked - got connected to an agent in about 25 minutes. Turns out my former employer didn't respond to ESD's request for information, which put my claim in limbo. The agent manually pushed it through and said I should see payments for all my back weeks within 48 hours. THANK YOU everyone for your help and suggestions. I was seriously about to have a breakdown over this.
