ESD payments stuck in 'processing' status for 3 weeks - WorkSource appointment affecting my claim?

I'm at my wit's end with ESD right now! My unemployment claim shows as 'active' since 4/28/25 and my waiting week was completed as of 5/4/25. I've been faithfully doing all my weekly claims (3 job applications per week) but I have THREE weeks stuck in 'processing' status (5/4, 5/11, and 5/18). No money has hit my account yet. My cell phone just got disconnected yesterday because I couldn't pay the bill, and I'm using my parents' landline to try reaching someone at ESD. I'm currently on hold with the governor's office because I read somewhere they might be able to help. Does anyone know if they actually do anything? This is my first time on unemployment and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I have a mandatory WorkSource appointment scheduled for next Monday - could that be what's holding up my payments? I'm planning to attend, but I'm desperate for these funds to come through ASAP. Any advice appreciated!

The WorkSource appointment shouldn't be affecting your payments right now - that's a separate requirement. The processing status for 3 weeks is unusual though. In my experience, your first payment can sometimes take longer because they're verifying your eligibility, but 3 weeks is excessive. The governor's office can sometimes help, but it depends on who you get and how backed up they are. I'd recommend trying to contact ESD directly, but I know that's nearly impossible right now with their phone lines.

Thanks for the info! I've been trying to call ESD every single day but can't get through. I've left messages in their online portal too but nobody responds. It's so frustrating - I feel like I'm doing everything right but still not getting paid.

A whole month? That's terrifying! I can't wait that long - bills are piling up. Did you ever figure out what caused the delay?

Have you received ANY correspondence from ESD about your claim? Check your online account for letters or notices - there could be an adjudication issue they haven't told you about. Look under "Decisions" and "Letters" in your eServices account. Something might be flagged and holding up your payments. Also, make sure you answered all weekly claim questions correctly - saying you weren't "able and available" for work or refusing suitable work will stop payments immediately.

Just double-checked my account - nothing under Decisions or Letters that explains the delay. And I'm 100% sure I answered everything correctly on my weekly claims (said yes to being available for work, no to refusing any jobs, etc). It just says "processing" for all three weeks. So confused and stressed!

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE PPL GIVE UP!!!!! My sister waited 6 WEEKS before getting her first payment last year and ESD never explained the delay. They just suddenly started paying her. Keep filing your weekly claims but don't expect the governor's office to do ANYTHING for you. They just send a generic email to ESD who ignores it anyway. The only way to get results is to keep calling and calling and calling until you get through to a REAL PERSON. Good luck.

This is so true. I had to call over 200 times before I finally got through to someone last month. The system is completely broken.

Have you tried using Claimyr to reach ESD? I was in the exact same situation last month with 4 weeks stuck in processing. I spent days trying to get through on the phone with no luck. Then I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to an ESD agent. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Basically, they keep dialing for you and call you back when they reach an agent. I was skeptical but desperate, and it actually worked! The agent I spoke to found that there was a flag on my account that needed to be removed. My payments were released the next day. Might be worth a try since you're already weeks behind.

Thank you! I hadn't heard of this service but I'm willing to try anything at this point. I'll check out the video. Did you have to wait long once they connected you?

For what it's worth, sometimes processing payments can take longer if there are identity verification issues. With all the fraud during COVID, ESD got extremely strict about verifying identity before releasing funds. Did you have to upload ID documents when you applied? If they weren't clear enough or something looked off, that could be causing the delay. Make sure to check your spam folder too - sometimes important ESD emails end up there.

Yes, I did upload my driver's license and SS card when I applied. They both seemed to be accepted without any issues. Good tip about the spam folder though - I'll check that right now!

Oh don't worry, I'm definitely going to that appointment! Thanks for the warning. I can't afford to make this situation any worse.

After you try reaching ESD, if you still don't have an answer, you might want to contact your state representative's office. They often have liaisons who work directly with ESD and can sometimes get answers when individuals can't. Just search for "[your district] state representative" and call their office. I've seen this work for several people with stubborn claims.

This is excellent advice. Legislative offices often have dedicated ESD contacts who can get information about claims when regular channels fail. I've seen claims that were stuck for months suddenly process within days after legislative intervention.

Just following up - did you get any resolution to your claim? I was thinking about your situation and remembered that sometimes the first payment can be delayed if your former employer contests your unemployment claim. Did you leave your job under any questionable circumstances? If your employer disputed your eligibility, that would definitely cause delays while ESD investigates.

I used that Claimyr service someone suggested and FINALLY got through to ESD yesterday! Turns out my former employer did contest my claim (even though I was laid off due to budget cuts). The agent said my claim is in adjudication and could take another 3-4 weeks to resolve. She added a note about my financial hardship, but couldn't promise it would speed things up. I'm going to try contacting my state rep too. Thanks for checking back!
